my wife might want one, depending on her trying mine out. In theory I can see it being a better browser than a netbook (she has a samsung NC10) and she pretty much only uses the browser.

Gmail would have to be pretty damn good on it, and IME support for Japanese too.

It does support Japanese input. First thing I checked, since most of my text input for work is in Japanese.

thanks. It'd be nice to have some kind of handwriting/stroke input method too.

Although the screen will be about the same as a netbook, I'm expecting the direct interaction via touch to make it much better than a netbook for browsing.

My wife loves the iPod Touch I bought for her. She uses it mostly for her puzzle games, email, etc. An iPad is without a doubt going to make a very nice present for her.

are u sure? My wife and I both love our Touch's and use them every day. Neither of us has the slightest desire for an iPad.

There's the Chinese handwriting input, but right now it only supports simplified characters, so a lot of characters would look different from the ones used in Japanese. Once they port handwriting input for traditional characters, it should work well in inputting most kanji.
