Launch-day 3G 16mb white - works as good today as it did that day. Better actually, with the software upgrades :)

3g:
new 11th July 08, replaced june 09 (overheating and fractured on case), replaced again September 09 (black screen of death).

Original iPod touch 8 times
dust
no WiFi
bad home button
sleep wake button died
Bad battery
dead pixels
Loose dock connector
Bad headphone jack

iPod touch 2G 4 Times
Beta 3.0 expired and couldn't restore
The replacement was DOA, I haven't even left the Genius Bar, and noticed it. The smart Genius was plugging it in for me so I could check everything before I left and on wouldn't turn on.

They gave me a new replacement iPod. So there is 3 iPod replacements right there.

Charging it one night, tripped over the cable, sending the touch into the foot of my bed. Broken the 30 pin connector and cracked the glass. The Genius replaced it for free, even though I was honest to him about how it broke.

I will be on my 5th soon, as 3.1.1 messed up my iPod. See this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/786672/

The store said that they can fix my touch, so when ever Apple sends it back would be great.

Now lets talk about the iPhone.
I own a First Generation iPhone 8GB
I have gotten it replaced 5 times
Bad sleep/wake button
Uneven glass
Dust
Uneven glass again
Home button needed to be pressed hard to work.

Original launch day iPhone: 1 replacement, I dropped it in December 07 and cracked the screen so I paid the $199 for a replacement.

Launch day iPhone 3G: 1 replacement. The back case cracked near the usb cable due to regular wear and tear (no drops and it was always in a case), so the Genius bar replaced it for free.

Launch day iPhone 3GS: 0 replacements. The sleep/wake button is only working 50% of the time but when I made a genius appointment, I couldn't reproduce it. Also I have 4 large pieces of dust under the screen so I will take it back in sometime soon.

Both my girlfriend and my brother have had all three of the same models that I have had. Each model has had 0 or 1 replacements so we're doing pretty well altogether.

Wow, you guys sure have a lot of returns with your iPhones.

I have had three phones: Original, 3G and 3GS - 0 returns on any of them.

My wife has a 3GS - 0 returns there also.

I don't use a case for my phones at all - no screen protector either. Just carry it in my pocket, and try not to put anything metal in there with it (ie no change, no keys, etc).

My wife has a slip-on case and carries it in her purse.

All four phones have (or had) heavy use for phone calls, texting, and more recently game play.

Zero. I did just find my first hairline crack today, though (from the headphone port to the bezel) and if I start to see a bunch more, I won't hesitate to take it back. However, as of right now, it's livable.

Actually, out of all of the iPods/iPhones I've ever owned, I only ever returned 1 once. My 2G nano inexplicably quit working one day (iTunes & Windows no longer recognized it and the battery wouldn't hold a charge), so I took it back to Best Buy under their extended warranty service. Other than that, all of my Apple devices have been fantastic.

Over 50 original iPhone examined and sold = NONE need replacement. 100% satisfaction from buyers.

3gs = NONE

I must be one of the most tollerant people here. Haha. I only complained to the Genious bar when my battery was dropping 1% every minute on the phone. Sometimes it drops up to 3% per minute when using Edge... They wouldn't replace it.

I've had my 3G since launch day and never even tried to get it replaced (except for battery right before the 1year mark).

I scratched my bezel night I bought it by dropping it, didn't bring it in.
Got dust under my screen within a month, didn't bring it in.
Scratched the screen in another month, no clue how, didn't bring it in.
Corners of the black shell cracking and around dock, didn't bring it in.
Bezel lifing up and uneven screen when I bought it, didn't bring it in.

It works, it works great. A dust spec is not going to make me bring in my phone.

I'm the same way. When I replaced mine I only did it because one of the cracks (near the dock connector) was 1 inch in size and seemed like it would keep getting worse.

none, original 16GB 3G from launch day

Just my original iPhone. A line going across on the screen just stopped working/responding to my finger. Made life quite difficult to use it!

iPhone 2G - x0
iPhone 3G - x1 (Cracks in casing.)
iPhone 3G S - x1 (Faulty water sensor on the first one, luckily I knew someone at the Apple Store.)

3g- returned because the 3gs comes out 20 days after i bought the 3g, and price droped.
3gs- still in almost perfect condition, got it the first day it came out.

1st generation - Once due to low speaker volume. Exchanged iPhone had the same problem.

3G - Once due to it losing the 3G signal constantly.

3GS - Twice. Once due to the screen coating wearing off after two weeks. Second time was when the phone got bricked. Error 23 and could not be restored even by Apple.

The low speaker problem in the original iPhone was a design flaw... not a defect. The original iPhone had crappy speaker holes and if you take the antenna cover off, there was a foam piece covering the speaker.

Yeah, ihonda, you don't deserve a phone. If I were a Genius, my attitude would get worse and worse with you every time you show up.

clearly i dont go to apple to exchange if you would read u would see i said bestbuy.

Dude... You just said above that you're going to exchange your current phone because the sleep/wake button is a bit "wobbly."

What kind of legit reason is that?

um very legit as ive seen people report power buttons actually coming off the phone.. (bad glue)

Bricked when jailbreaking? How did you talk your way out of that one?

Had no idea that the applecare covered accidental damage, I thought it was just technical faults/failure?

Edit, forgot to answer the OP : I have a 3 month old 3GS and g/f has 1 year old 3G, no faults with either so far.

again bestbuy.. and idk how in the world i bricked it.. but it stuck @ the apple screen they couldnt prove i jailbroke it since it was stuck at the apple screen so. yeah..

also its not fraud if i feel something is wrong with the phone then i exchange it, customer is always right remember? maybe apple's quality control should be what it USED to be

So...

1. You returned your iPhone because YOU dropped it and scuffed it? That's fraud.
2. The power button has never come off of an iPhone because that's impossible. The mute button, however, has come off on some people's iPhones due to bad glue, but that has nothing to do with wobbles. If the switch itself wobbles, that's one thing... but that little metal piece glued to it won't wobble.
3. So YOU jailbroke your iPhone (voiding the warranty) and YOU broke the iPhone and got it stuck at the Apple logo. That's still your fault. Again... fraud.
4. The customer is NOT always right. The iPhone warranty does not cover accidental damage. It's as simple as that. Yes... that's both accidental damage and damage done on purpose. You committed fraud... and it doesn't matter WHO you returned the iPhone to... it still goes back to Apple.

I would never return something that has damage to it that *I* caused myself. If the damage appeared on it's own... that's another story. I've seen a lot of iPhones crack while the user has been very careful with it and never dropping it. My 2nd iPhone 3G cracked and I babied the thing.
