Finally after testing the MacBook Air for a few weeks, I traded my 2017 15” i7 16GB/2GB GDDR5 MacBook Pro for a M1 MacBook Air 16GB/1TB.

The MacBook Air is plenty powerful from my testing. I work with Final Cut Pro for my YouTube channel and has been working great on the M1 as well. If you are not into video editing, the 8GB will be plenty powerful as well.

Currently in the process of selling my 16" and keeping this M1 Air. I'm a web dev and this machine seems to perform even faster, and without getting hot or needing to spin up loud fans. Plus I was never much of a fan of the size, so this is perfect for me.

Not needing the fan is a dream come true! ?

Also busy selling my MacBook 16” base, after purchasing the MBA M1.

So sad though, when i was giving the 16” a once over, there isn’t a scratch on it, such a gorgeous machine.

Only difference in my workflow is no fans coming on while typing an email. I don’t use a laptop as a laptop much, but i most certainly on occasion, need a mobile option. So i never got to appreciate the speakers and the screen as much as i would have wanted too.

First time i have rotated a machine this quickly, usually every 3-4 years. Rather going to get what i can for it now price wise, and have someone still appreciate it fully.

Then the MBAM1 is tester and filler to see what next year brings. Or maybe not, so far so good for me on the switch.

Strongly considering it. I have a base model MBA in my bag at the Apple Store with this 2017 MBA for trade-in. B&H has the base model on sale for $899 for another 2 ½ hours so that is pretty tempting too. Not sure I want hassle with selling this MBA privately though. The Apple trade-in is so easy and painless.

I ditched a '18 8/256 MBA for a M1 8/256 MBA 5 minutes after the keynote. Received $540 in trade and purchased for $899 veterans price. Upgrading the keyboard, display and performance for an increase of $359 was a no brainer for me. The only issue I have with it is the MacRumors website constantly freezes up Safari! ?

Later that week I was updating the OS on the HT '14 Mini 4/500 rust drive which was painfully slow. Checked out the OWC SSD blade upgrade for a minimum of $110. Hmmm. . . pass. Apple offered $80 for a Mini I would not wish on my enemy. Checked a few Apps for compatibility. Good to go and ordered the Mini 8/256 for $629 - 80 = $550. Should be good going forward  I managed to update both the MBA and the POS Mini for under 1K.

The Intel '18 Mini iOS mothership will have to wait until chips with more powerful graphics are available plus I just $$put it together$$ this time last year.

By upgrading the MBA, Mini and iPhone 12 PM from an iPhone 8+ I have given myself a very merry Apple Christmas. Sure glad I own some shares!

I sold my MBP 16 for an MBP 13 M1. I don't regret it. I thought I wanted the large screen however when I traveled (Pre-Covid) it was a pain. For what I use my Mac for I find the M1 faster, lighter, and more nimble. I thought I would miss the dedicated graphics card but I don't.

SImilar use case and I switched from a 16 as well. Even Photoshop via Rosetta sings on the M1.

I still have an Ice Lake MacBook Pro that I’ll keep, but I sold my 2017 12” MacBook to help finance the M1. I’ll miss the tiny size of the MacBook, but the Air is such a pleasure to use, and I’m not traveling much these days, so the extra weight of the Air isn’t as much of a downside.

I’ve sold an 12” MacBook (m3 2027) for an M1 Air. I plan keeping it for about 4 years, and I’m a bit unsure about 8Gb or 16Gb of RAM. I don’t make video editing, only photography edits and productivity work.

I traded in my 2018 13" MacBook Pro Core i7 since I wasn't really using it because of Covid-19. I still have my 2013 Mac Pro which was just about as fast as the i7 anyway (faster on graphics, slower on single core, about even on multi core.)

Did you trade it in with Apple and were you able to take it to the store or did you ship it to them?

I read that they stopped in store MacBook trade-ins. Wondering if they make an exception for people who secured their trade-in quotes before the change. I don't like the idea of shipping a MacBook to them.

I traded my wife's 2020 MBA Pro base for a 16 GB 256GB MBA M1. She had the Mac for two months prior, but apple gave me a full refund so she got the MacBook Air for free and we even had a small credit left. Very satisfied with Apple.

Yes, I took it to the store. I ordered online, accepted the trade in quote, and selected to drop the trade-in device in the store during my order pickup.

In the US it doesn't seem like they've changed their trade-in policy at least according to their website. It still says you can bring it in.

When I went to the FAQ it shows that Macs can’t be traded in the store. I assumed that meant al Macs including laptops.

After you checkout in the app, I was able to select the option to drop off the device at the store.

In one spot it says bring it in, in another it says you can't. I did trade in my old MacBook Pro at the Apple store on November 17 so I don't know how long that FAQ has been up or if I wasn't supposed to do that. They processed it for me though without complaint.
