My 2014 MBP still has years of life left so why would I sell?
The 2014 MBP was made really well - prob best keyboard on a MacBook. I made the mistake of selling it and getting a 2018 MBP with a terrible keyboard (now selling). Wish id kept the 2014 MBP.

But thank fully I now have a M1 MBP and it feel really good to have a nice keyboard again and a super long battery + zero fan noise... this thing runs cool all the time.

I sold my 2019 16" i9 1TB, and bought the M1 MBP. Only had to come out of pocket $75. Then for the wife, I traded into Apple her 2019 i5 MBA. So total will be out of pocket $400 total to upgrade both machines. Not bad based on Intel's declining resale value and the improved performance of the M1 machines.

It's actually pretty bad considering you could have gotten a lot more for your 16'' - granted with more hassle ;)

Bought an Intel version a week before M1 was released. Returned it. It couldn't even play a 4k Youtube video on an external monitor properly ?

Sold my 12 inch 2017 and picked up a base M1 Air. Was going to sell my 16 inch today although I contemplated it hard because I dont like the 13 inch screen and sure enough, the M1 crapped out on me this morning. I'm taking this as a sign to keep the 16 inch screen and ports. Another thing I knew id regret is jumping the gun without waiting for 2021 redesigns. Since I currently dont travel, the 16 at home is great. I'll wait and see what apple comes out with. Who knows maybe in 2021 I may get a 32 inch iMac and a 12.5 inch Macbook M1 which is what I truly loved for travel as the 13 inch isnt light and isnt heavy. Its just an odd middle child whom I never liked. The 16 inch used prices have tanked and I dont see them dropping much more mid 2021. if a 2021 MBP 16 is $2,400 new, a 2019 may be $1,400 used and currently these sites and people want to pay $1,600 for the 16 which is a dumb trade for a 13 inch screen, old design and 2 ports. I'll wait and ill take the loss but ill enjoy my screen and speakers.

I'm trading my 2019 MacBook Air.

One suggestion to all folks; do not send your usb-c charger and your usb-c cable. Apple pays ONLY $10 for both. I am keeping both of course.

I was thinking of trading up from my 2017 MBA to a M1 MBA. But got to thinking I really would be better off replacing my late 2012 mini instead. I use it a lot more and it is getting pretty long in the tooth. Being 8 years old I figured it had no trade-in value but checked today and they are offering $150 for it. So I believe that is the direction I'm going to go now. I'll probably get a 16GB model but they aren't shipping until Dec. 31.

Actually selling it for $1900 on Swappa, was the best deal last week. Apple’s trade-in only offered $1,450 and eBay’s fees would have been much more than Swappa.

Replaced my 2015 MacBook Pro but with an M1 Pro, haven't made the decision yet to sell it. That machine took me through all of college...am I wrong to be a bit nostalgic over my Macs? Lol

I had bought a MacBook Air 2020 with Intel i5 two months ago... ended up gifting it to my girlfriend and ran to the store to grab a MacBook Pro M1. This thing is a freaking beast. I love it.

Also there was a bunch of things I felt after switching (won't mention the obvious jump in performance and thermals):

- The bigger trackpad is a must;
- The sound is a lot better;
- The screen is brighter at full brightness;
- The battery life is... absolutely bananas;
- I LOVE THE Touch Bar. THERE. I SAID IT.

I will be waiting to see what the 16" variety brings to the table.
Currently on an i9 that does what I need it to.
It may be 2022 before I upgrade. I won't know until I click the button.

I think Apple will release a 16” powered by M-series probably in mid-2021. So you should be good for a 2022 upgrade then ?

Because of the M1 Mini, I am handing down my 16" MBP desktop used in pristine condition that I paid over $2500 to my wife for Christmas.

Plus I am throwing in the DGRule dock....

Her's was a 2014 rMBP 15" that was on it's last legs....

She will be so thrilled - she commented on how nice the space gray 16" looks...

just for trade value numbers
Apple offered $1310 for my 2018 15" i9 with 32gb RAM, 1TB HD, and Radeon 560x
Macmeanoffer.com offered me $1615. Still waiting for them to pay for this.
FWIW:
Nov 20th - I shipped my 2018 MBP15 to them
Nov 23rd - they emailed confirmation of receiving the package
Nov 25th - they confirmed condition matched as described and would send the check within four business days
Dec 1st - Check arrived in my mailbox for the full amount expected.

Given this all occurred across the Thanksgiving holiday, I'm pleased with the timeframes involved.

Though since I've used MMAO before and been happy with them, I wasn't concerned with the amount of time as one new to using them might reasonably be so.

Top Gear Test Track.
Traded my venerable late 2013 15" Retina MBP for a 13" MBP M1. I've been using this computer for years and it's served me well, this batch of M1 Macs are the first new models that provided enough of a leap forward to trade up.

I’m buying a new M1 MBA with 16GB/1TB. Not trading or selling my old Mac per se, but I am giving my old 2015 13” rMBP to my mom so she can upgrade from the 2009 13” MBP I gave her in 2015.

Well, I had planned to trade in my early 2015 MBP and buy the base model M1 MBP, but when I asked advise on MR, I was advised to sell instead. I bought the M1 on the day it came out and STILL have yet to sell my old MBP which is wiped and ready to ship. :(

If you are selling it privately you may have a hard time if your price is high. That is a 5+ year-old machine so be realistic. For a reality check get a quote from a reseller such as MacOfAllTrades or similar sites.

I wasn't aiming high. $320 was the trade in. I asked $500 or best offer. Not even ONE low ball offer or offer at ALL. The model is 5 years old. The MBP's actually age is 3 and it's in mint condition.

You have to look at what similar models are selling for and price accordingly.

The fact that it's only been used three years is irrelevant to most folks - they're not even looking at the listing most likely if they're looking for three year old systems.

Check ebay SOLD listings for the same model.

Get quotes from CashForYourMac.com and MacMeAnOffer.com -- they will often be different.

Then decide what path to take.

You should still easily beat the offer from Apple's third-party trade in partner.

So I have/had the late 2018 15" MBP but ordered a base M1 MBA to test since the Apple holiday return window was extended. But, after a couple weeks of using this thing and throwing everything I do (and a couple apps just for testing) on it, I can honestly say that I love this little laptop, especially the battery time, and the fact that it's finless and stays cool even when playing WoW. So, I am going to format the 15 and give it to my daughter for Hanukkah. She's running an old 2014 13" MBP that got her through college so the 15 will be a solid upgrade for her. ?

yeah, the new keyboards are great - what I had in my early 2020 MBA was really good - much better than the 2018 MBP15.

Super happy with the M1 MBP keyboard as well.

As for touchbar - I really didn't like it on my MBP15, largely because it didn't have the physical ESC key and because I was used to the usual hotkey functions. With figuring out how to set those to the touchbar and with the newer models having the actual ESC key, I'm finding I like it well enough.

Plus, looks like there's a bunch of configurability for the hotkeys as well. Plus, there's BetterTouchTool for even more capability.

Note - I don't touch-type the Function key row though, so lack of tactile feedback isn't important to me for those functions like it is for some other folks. If I were needing that feedback I'd likely have a different opinion.
