Well I know a developer who will add my iPad to his acc. I said no though. JB on 3.2.1 jailbroken is better than apples for multitasking and that's what I need. Folders is the only thing I want..

Only problem I've had is with the WSJ application. After viewing a few pages, I get blank screens (well ads are still there) and/or the app. freezes. Thinking I will restore back until that gets sorted out as I need to read it everyday.

I wonder how often beta updates will become available -- if it's going to be a weekly build thing, or if it'll be more infrequent. Biggest thing I'm looking for is a fix to the 3G AT&T account access (or lack thereof).

I like to meter my usage even though I rarely rely on 3G. I'm going to be on 3G almost 100% in a couple of weeks when on a trip.

I'd love to go back but I can't. The current 4.2 is too buggy, apps crash, no 3G etc. I expected bugs and was fully prepared to restore back to 3.2.2 if I couldn't use it. Well I tried but XCode is telling me it can't downgrade the baseband, so my iPad is stuck with only accepting 4.2.

If there isn't a fix by next week I'll take it into the apple store to have them replace it if they can't restore it either.

Pete

I reverted to 3.2 due to some app incompatibilities, mainly Zinio and Wired (I'd just downloaded the latest edition of a number of magazines)

Once they are working I'll be back to 4.2 for sure.

Good luck with that! They won't replace it for that - part of the developer agreement is it's installed on a DEVELOPMENT device - you should be prepared for bugs!

Anyways, restoring down is EASY there are already plenty of guides here

Had it on for a few days as I'm helping a dev with an app, but wi-fi issues (inconsistent drop outs) and no volume for some reason, persuaded me to downgrade back to 3.2.1. Loved it in the most part, but it's not stable enough for a daily user yet - for me anyway.

It is a development device, but it's useless for even that if the apps just crash! I've actually had the advice to take it back from Apple as I have followed their instructions to downgrade over the phone and it didn't work.

Restoring down isn't easy in this case, something has gone wrong and nothing I've read has fixed it.

I don't have the 3G iPad, but on the WiFi restoring down to 3.2.2 was the simplest downgrade I have ever done. All I did was click restore in iTunes, and I was golden.

I suspect that the 3G is the problem, I have a colleague who also has a wifi that had similar experience. Since it's being reported as a baseband problem I suspect the wifi doesn't have this firmware ( no baseband as no 3G ) and this is where the issue lies.

What happens when you try to downgrade? You should get stuck in some sort of recovery mode, and then use iRecBoot to fix it. I've done this with my iPhone's numerous times.

That's exactly what is happening, except no tools I've tried have been able to force it out of recovery mode. I tired umberella and iRecBoot and neither worked, I just get stuck in the recovery mode. I have had another tool suggested, so I'll try it, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I've borrowed another iPad that I can use for a couple of days so I'm not too stressed, but need to sort it out soon.

Installed the 4.2 beta but quickly went back to 3.2.2. There were just too many broken apps and I can't live without my 3G working.

If a new beta doesn't come out by Oct 4th, I'm going to have to fall back to 3.2.2 as well. I've tried to access my 3G Data account online and it won't register my number. They're telling me the only way I can manage my data plan is through the settings on the iPad.

The beta's been really stable for me other than the fact that I can't access my 3G account settings. I've been able to use 3G to VPN to work and Remote Desktop to my work PC to run SQL queries and everything. But if I run out of data when I'm traveling, AT&T says the only way I can add more to the plan is via the settings menu.

I hate to lose multitasking and folders, but I have to be able access something as basic as my 3G account settings.

I use my iPad at work a lot and yesterday during a meeting, while my iPad had 4.2 installed, I tried to open documents in my emails in Pages and Keynote and iBooks (PDFs), and each time as the app would open the doc it would 1) fail to open the doc but keep the app open or 2) crash the app.

That was a problem. Luckily I could read the docs within the mail program itself, but I couldn't manipulate them. So that was my first issue.

My second issue was my MobileMe emails didn't push to my iPad on 4.2. I had to open my mail app and then they'd be pulled down. My settings were correct.

Another issue I came across was that my WiFi would disconnect. I'd have to restart my iPad to reconnect to my WiFi. Sometimes the WiFi icon at the top left of the iPad would disappear but it was still connected and I could use Safari and other net enabled apps.

So, in all, it was a super glitchy experience. But it's a beta (duh!). I can't wait for the stable version. It was nice to have everything in folders as my iPad is just cluttered with apps. But I'll wait until its release in November before I reinstall it.

I'm now back at iOS 3.2 and everything works fine.

how is everyone downgrading their ipads? I just bought a brand new ipad and updated to 4.2. never jailbroke it or anything. is their a walkthrough somewhere?

My wifi is spotty. it keeps disconnecting and the wifi icon disappears. sometimes settings crashes. i have a 16GB 3G iPad

I want to go back as I may get a smoother experience and less crash but 4.2 is too good. Safari and Goodreader run well in background along with mail so I like that. I don't like how my wifi adapter dies [as though I don't have the hardware]. At this second, I can browse the internet on wifi (don't have 3G mdoel) but on top left I don't see wifi logo at all. These bugs are somewhat annoying but I'm going to hold on until beta 2 is released. Anyone know approx. date?

I'm loving 4.2 but my iPad is more of a luxury device I just lay in bed surfing well listening to pandora. Any important emails or anything I have my iPhone 4 on me at all times. So no bug is really a deal breaker. Wifi has been wonky tho sometimes won't turn on or will forget a network every time it locks. Can't wait for beta 2

Apple does not release their beta schedule info, probably because it changes so much. Beta 2 will be out anytime between now and November.

As an update I did end up finding a tool that managed to kick the iPad out of recovery mode last night ( after many attempts. ) and after comparing with a friends iPad I know what the issue is. The baseband firmware appears not to be downgradable so I have 4.2 modem software on a 3.2.2 software iPad. Hopefully the baseband doesn't have any bugs in it, but if it does I guess I'll be finding them

Yea, you can never downgrade the baseband, on either iphone or iPad.

As for Beta 2, I would expect next week.

I used this method. Good luck!

I've also upgraded to iOS 4.2 beta, mainly because of the newly integrated AirPlay feature. It already works pretty well and with a lot of applications. Who'd have thought you could watch YouTube videos with the sound being wirelessly transmitted to your stereo ?

The only problem I have with 4.2 beta is that the volume control for AirPlay doesn't work yet. Bummer. I'm certainly looking forward to the next build.
