I'm enjoying it so far, I don't know if I could go back to no folders (reduced 8 pages to 1) or multitasking. This is what the iPad should have been at release.

Luckily I haven't encountered any killer bugs, yet. Although not being able to access my 3g account is annoying, but at least I had it set to auto renew already.

Although anecdotal evidence is virtually worthless I'll still give my experience. I upgraded and within 3 days went back to 3.2.2.

I found there to be a severe decrease in battery-life using 4.2 beta and I need the extended life for taking notes and doing work in business meetings. I have no doubt this will be sorted before long but I can't be arsed to deal with a beta that almost halved my battery.

I found a similar in regards to battery initially. After a reboot it was fine, and has been since.

I'm guessing it was an app or process backgrounded that was overly active and did not go into sleep status properly or such. As you say it will more than likely be resolved shortly and as developers release 4.2 compatible updated apps.

I realized (duh) that I could actually check my 3G usage by going to General --> Usage to look at the Cellular Network Data. I just need to remember to reset it on the 30th (when my account should auto-renew).

Glad I turned on auto-renew too, at least :) I won't be able to upgrade my account to 2gb while I'm at Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, but at least if I get close to my 250mb limit I can swap over to the iPhone 4 (where I still have unlimited). Inconvenient, but oh well.

Fingers & toes crossed and squinting hard for a new beta in the next 2 weeks ><

After looking at my device logs, I've decided to just keep the 4.2 beta -- it really doesn't crash on me that much, and the wifi/3G disappearing icon thing is fixed with a soft reboot which is no big deal for me.

You should be aware that most people report that AT&T usage data is usually significantly higher than that reported under the usage section. If you are using this to determine whether you are going to run out of data then you will likely be in for a nasty surprise.

On the plus side, you don't get charged any overage data. On the minus side without access to the account button you will be stuck until it auto-renews every 30 days. It's up to you but I'd downgrade (which I've already done) unless a new beta comes out.

Thanks for the tip. I only turn on 3G when mobile. In the past 20 or so days my total usage shows up at 18mb. I hope that doesn't translate into 250mb. Doesn't AT&T send a "warning" note when you're approaching your limit?

Yes, you are right, you will get warnings I think at 20%, 10%, and maybe 5%. The big problem will be no way to add more data if needed.

So I bought my udid enrolement from someone from eBay. If I downgrade to 3.2 now, will I be able to just download the new beta when released and install that? Tia

Once you have a dev id you are good to go until it expires.

the 4.2 beta is great. But yeah..... so many dealbreaker bugs. wifi disappearing, sluggish internet, odd 3g strength, big name apps not working, huge drain on battery, etc, etc.

I will be downgrading soon, but I will be really looking forward for the next beta.

I want to downgrade and upgrade when beta 2 or 3 comes out or when the wifi is fixed... as I have the wifi only model (esp today I had an urgent need to see something and couldn't because wifi "adapter not found" kept appearing). Problem is... iTunes shift-restore doesn't work on my laptop, no clue why so I need to get access to another computer to do it.

Are you on a Mac? I had to do Option-Restore. Took me 2 full reinstalls to figure out that Shift-Restore is for Windows only :/ If on a Mac, Option-Restore works.

No no.. I'm on PC. Although I appreciate you trying to help with this, trust me on this: I have spent over 2 weeks in doing every single thing possible to get iTunes shift restore to work and nothing worked. The only thing I can do is open my old Win XP laptop and it works on there. It also seems to work on another Win Vista laptop but not mine... even though Win 7 should work. It's not the OS as I tried compatibility mode, administrative mode, messed up with the core assembly of the startup of the software and tried my own useless settings and nothing does it. Also did multiple uninstalls -> full wipe of OS and what not and nope... nothing works. So now I am giving up.

Oh that stinks! From what I've heard, if you have a 3G, you're stuck with the 4.2 modem firmware, and people are having trouble downgrading back to 3.2.2. I haven't tried yet - been holding out until Oct 3rd or so to fall back to 3.2.2. Makes me wonder if I should start trying to fall back to the current OS earlier to see if it'll work.

DFU mode then... shift click isn't letting you select the old 3.2.2 ipsw?

Is it possible to downgrade to 3.2.2 without setting up as a new iPad? It won't let me set up from a back up because I don't have the latest software? Assuming it is looking for 4.2?

Yes, but I used a copy of a backup made before I installed 4.2. I'm not sure if a backup made with 4.2 can be used to restore a device with 3.2.2.

I downgraded from 4.2 back to 3.2.2 and I didn't have any problems. I used the procedure detailed here and it worked like a champ.
