Was thinking of downloading it, on P4 and the website I used is now gone for the previews. Gonna download it legitly from the Mac App Store when it releases. Tired of ripping software.

Same here :D

3 more minutes for the download to finish.

Same here ^_^

Finally I'm able to enjoy my new Air. Since I always do clean installs with major updates I couldn't bring myself to fully customize Lion with Mountain Lion around the corner...

I am sticking with DP4 until the final is released -- just in case the GM is not the same as the final version.

There is still that 1% doubt that the final version can be downloaded on top of the DP. Perhaps it will make no difference, but I don't want to lessen the chances of being able to download from the App store once available.

My highly optimized SL 10.6.8 continues to impress.

It's value to me climbs higher every day...

For the first time since 1991, I have zero interest in "upgrading" :)

Quick question... I just bought a rMBP so will get a free upgrade to ML when it hits the app store.

If I were (somehow...) able to get hold of the GM ahead of that (and assume the GM is the final) then how would it work when it hit the appstore?

Would it automatically show as 'installed' and I'd get updates after that? Or would I need to click buy/install (using whatever method apple is using to allow rMBP buyers to upgrade free) and it will then say 'already installed' or similar and turn to installed?

Just interested from those who installed Lion GM how the move to official appstore version works?

I know i'm impatient, but hey thats the way I am and I don't see it as pirating as I'm getting the full version upgrade for free in a few weeks anyway...

thanks for the advice.
Richard.

Interested in the exact same question :)

I am taking a guess based on past releases. Others will chime in.

This is my concern as well.

If the GM is the same build number as the final release -- and that is highly probable -- you won't be able to download the final release from the APP STORE as it will indicate that the operating system is already installed. In essence, you will have the final release and it will update itself accordingly.

The potential problem -- and this is my opinion -- is that you install the GM, the final release build number is different and the APP STORE does not let you install the final release over a developer preview.

It would be fine for me if it just said 'installed' and work fine, I guess what I'm more bothered about is getting my iTunes account to register that I have 'purchased' or in reality 'been given a free upgrade' so if i ever need to use it on other machines or to install in the future my appstore account recognises this.

Don't want my free upgrade (because of rMBP) to expire as I don't technically claim it as my laptop thinks its already installed and therefore doesn't inform the appstore. Am I making any sense?

I believe we are on the same page.

I could easily install the Gold Master right now and be done with it.

However, with the purchase of a retina MBP, I want my free upgrade registered with the App Store for all future hardware purchases.

I won't be able to do that if I install the GM.

So, waiting another two weeks for the official release would be the better way to go, I think.

Guys/girls, stop worrying you should be able to purchase it again. Last year I purchased Lion even though I installed the GM.

John,

Appreciate the vote of confidence. Are we absolutely certain?

Anyone else want to chime in before we roll the dice?

(thanks BTW)

I thought you had two rMBPs?

I distinctly remember, because you were claiming that you had the 768GB SSD model a month before anyone else had theirs, and yet you refused to post a screenshot :)

Im only worried about the slight chance of not being able to install the Final Release over a GM Dev version :/

What is the probability that would happen?

I will wait for the official release. In fact, I will wait about a week after checking the reviews for users using ML

I think anything is possible.

Anyone wanting to preserve the APP STORE in remembering your purchase for every new piece of hardware you purchase, I would be concerned about installing the GM.

Despite people saying "Don't worry," we don't know if the APP STORE will see the installed GM and say that you have already purchased the product.

I tend to side with those who are optimistic that everything is going to be okay, but even I am waiting for release date to upgrade. You just never know what could happen.

From checking the reviews on this forum, people seem to like it so far, no errors. and since the GM is most likely going to be the release version...

I'm just afraid of the "what if" :(

I am on DP4 and it runs perfectly.

I can't imagine the GM being a step backwards from that.

I think I will go ahead and just install over my Lion. Does Apple normally recommend developers install developer releases on a separate computer? o-o
You think they would allow you to install/update a developer release.

You can update from a developer preview. I just upgraded from DP4 to the GM without any issues, apart from having to reinstall the Facebook integration package.
