how r u converting ur movies into ipad format? i'm assuming ur talking abt actual bluray discs or r u talking abt downloaded .avi?

what program/settings r u using? how is the quality?

i'll be v.interested in doing this with my movies when i get an ipad (they're not out here in australia yet...grrrr)

probably .mp4 not .avi

I'm a little worried already, first day and I have 11GB left on my 16. But I haven't even started putting my full resolution photos on it. it's gonna fill up fast once I get a couple hundred 4MB pictures into pictures. I love this thing for pdf books. I'm trying to keep the podcasts off it for now, but I might start filling it up with video podcasts quickly as well. I should have got the 64GB :(

You can stream video podcasts on iTunes right on your iPad if you want to save space and you have the time to watch at that moment. I stream video and audio podcasts to save space in storage.

lol @ books, no one really has any on there.
My iPad is just games, I bought it figuring that it's annoying to play on the small iPhone's screen, so all it does is sit on my couch until I pick it up to play games. I'd rather watch movies on my MBP, especially since most of it is Hulu and I'm a heavy multi tasker.

Yeah I'm backing up my bluray discs (although I get lucky with some of them because some have that digital copy now!). I'm using AnyDVD HD to copy them to the computer (20-30GB usually). Then I use handbrake and go to "source" then "video file" then you go the folder you copied..the the "STREAM" folder.. and the movie is usually the biggest file in there. After that I click the "Apple Universal" preset and then under the "Picture" tab I change the width to 1024 and thats pretty much it. I guess I could change the audio from surround to stereo to save some space too. But I usually get amazing backup quality, Crank2 looks the best for some reason. Guess they did a better job producing the bluray. lol

The file size of books is very small. I probably have 50 on mine.

25 gigs used, 5 movies i had ripped and never watched 5 gigs music, alot videos, many ted videos, lots photos, bit of pdf's, some powerpoints, and the peace of mind of having a ton of space for avatar and whatever great apps come down the road.

I have 10 gigs used. Loaded up a few movies and a lot of apps for my upcoming trip out of the country. I haven't even begun to put any of my music or photos on it. Thank god I got the 32 and not the 16 ! With already 10 gigs filled within just a week and a half of ownership, there is no way 16 gigs would have sufficed.

32gb

I got the 32gb version, and think it will be the sweet spot. Don't really think the 64GB would be best.

I don't see putting my entire itunes library on there, and don't see LEAVING lots of movies on there.

I have 0 songs, 0 videos, 194 photos and 77 apps.

On my 16 gig iPad, I have 12.2/14 gig free.

I have several apps like Olivetree Biblereader, Amazon Kindle and iBooks that have quite a bit of data. I was in line at the Apple Store on the morning of April 3rd and I asked them how big iWork was. They told me Pages was about 35 meg and Numbers was about the same and I decided I was "safe" to buy the smallest iPad, thereby risking the least amount of money. I did opt for AppleCare and I'm not sure if I would have rather had the extra 16 gig of memory over extended coverage that doesn't include accidental damage.

I posted this in another thread, but figured I'd throw it out in this too:

The Elements app is 1.74 GB.

Not sure if that's a sign of things to come, but it's worth keeping in mind when making a decision on what size to buy. I could manage right now on 16GB on a day to day basis, but if there are a lot of quality apps that are released in the same size range in the future, it could become a hassle.

I have a 64 GB with 24.4 GB free. It's mostly music at the moment (32 GB) because I mostly use it around the house, and I don't want to have to also carry the iPhone around just in case I want to plug in headphones and listen to music.

Apps are up to 729 MB, books (about 80 of them) at 63 MB, video at 501 MB, and "other" is 465 MB.

32G is fine for me. I use my iPad for browsing ,reading PDFs and books, and productivity. I still prefer my iPod touch for music and even video. I figure with Netflix and ABC app that I'll no longer need to buy video on iTunes, but don't let Apple know I said that.....

59.17 gigs available

7.8 gigs music
6.2 gigs photos
2.0 gigs video
1.7 gigs apps

41.40 gigs availabe

I still have about 2000 pics to put on it (@4100 on there now) and I only have a few movies and TV shows. I mistakenly synced all my TV shows and it took 38 gigs..Yoinks!

I got the 64gb unit and wish I could actually store file and documents. I will never fill this memory with software!

That is what I am thinking as of right now... would like to save the $100 over the 16 vs 32... but rather be "safe" :) LOL For the way I use my iPhone 16 would be good - but think that with iPad I will want more in the end.

Got the 16gb and so far only used 2gb for apps. I won't be using my iPad for video or music, so I think it's enough. Hopefully there won't be killer apps coming out that's 1gb or more...
