O rly?
Had you been taking care of that replacement s10?

I encourage you to give AppleCare a call to discuss what is going on with that replacement unit. They are willing to resend you a new one if it really bothers you.

I kinda feel like the S10 is jinxed for me.

I will be making another visit to the Apple Store on Monday (it’s Sunday night as I type this), but I wonder if it’s possible to request for the replacement to be the silver model instead (or if it even makes any difference). You can’t tell me that my Series 5 watch (which gets dug out of the drawer tomorrow) is lasting better than it. I really cannot think of anything related to my lifestyle that might be causing this. Is my sweat too acidic or something? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Give it a try. Some folks skin also may affect how they wear Apple Watch in certain colours too.

Depending on the remaining stock the Apple Store has you can ask for a silver one. That one has no special finish or coating since that’s matted aluminium.

I’ve been wearing Apple Watches since the AW3. Every single Apple Watch I’ve ever owned seemed to get a screen scratch RIGHT after I bought it. Apple Care would offer to replace it, but then I’d decide not to to save it for when I really needed it.

So when the Apple Watch Ultra came around, the flat screen allowed me to easily put a matte screen protector on it (also made it a LOT less reflective). That solved the screen issue for me.

I do not worry about small dings and blemishes on my Apple Watch. I’ve smashed my AW2 against concrete barriers, metal doors, and many other things - it has survived them all very well. I see it more like rugged leather - the very slight markings have character and personality.

What BUGS me is the gunk that accumulates under the sensor. I clean that every few days with my fingernail. It gives me the <shivver> when I see someone’s Apple Watch with a ton of gunk around the heart rate monitor sensor. lol.

I got my watch back, it's similar to the first time where I get a replacement S10 black, and well, let's see how long this one holds up. My request to have it swapped to the silver version was declined, though the replacement got approved way more quickly this time around (it arrived at the repair facility on Tuesday morning, then got shipped out later that afternoon).

Another thing is that my S5 watch has 76% battery health, but I probably won't pay the money to have the battery replaced yet. I am actually struck by how little difference there seems to be between my S5 and S10 watch (at least in terms of how I use it). The latter basically has a larger screen, better battery life, feels a little faster in everyday use, and I guess double-tap has been handy from time to time. :) Just wish I could use it to activate Apple Pay, rather than simply scroll through notifications. Would really handy when I am getting on a bus with both hands full of groceries.

Great to hear that. Rarely do I hear that they would give you a different colour replacement watch, only time I heard it is if you got an older model Apple Watch replaced by Apple or if that particular model wasn’t in stock then you could go up a series or two or get a different colour, depending on the situation.

Will you still keep the s5 or trade it in?

My OCD is ferocious today.

I’m checking everything, including my Apple Watch, for imperfections, and it’s got to the point where I feel nauseous.

Do you check your watch often?

I usually give it a once over each morning, when I change watch straps, but today my OCD is out of control.

You?
Once a day or two. But I take care of my arm so that my watch doesn’t ding. So it’s just for my own confirmation. I just give it a wipe as well to keep it free from sweat and grime, since Jet Black wears out easily

I give mine a wipe when I change straps, every day.

Take care of your stuff, and your stuff will take care of you.

Resist checking! I know you posted this a while ago. As someone with OCD, you cannot allow yourself to give into the compulsion. Sit with the anxiety and work on accepting that you cannot control it. It’s the hardest part of OCD. You have to lean in to the anxiety and allow yourself to accept it. It’s like riding a wave. It’s the cruel trick of OCD. Giving into the compulsion briefly makes you feel better for just a moment, but the anxiety comes back worse.

A good tactic is to sit down and write down what’s making you anxious. It’s called scripting.

“My OCD is telling me that my Apple Watch will get damaged. It might get damaged. I cannot know for certain. I choose to use the watch and not check for damage.”

TLDR;

I never give it a second thought. It is what it is.

Excellent advice.

Dude now a third case of this jet black watch paint chipping issue has came out. https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ioration.2462443/?post=34049707#post-34049707

Same here.

I even keep a dresser drawer full of screen cleaner bottles on hand alongside my polishing cloths and other stuff.

I use it to clean my Apple Watch and straps after workouts and before charging it, that’s when I pop it off.

That same screen cleaner I also use it to wipe the screen of my iPhone and MacBook Pro, the keyboard so it won’t get shiny and the edges. And the iPhone camera.

paint chips

nothing lasts forever, paint lasts much less longer

you should see the sides of my iPhone, and it's only like 4 or 5 years old

........

the chips and dents and gashes and gouges on my guitars are proud battle scars
You don't use a case on your phone?

I always put mine in Apple's clear silicone case, and it's saved it numerous times.

An iPhone XR or 11? I guess it’s the aluminium.

Same here I have bunches of cases for my iPhone. I am using the yellow and gold pressed flowers Delilah clear case on my iPhone 15 Pro

Ngl it saved from drops a few times in the cases with a screen protector

Nope nor me - from the original iPhone to my AW U2 zero case ever - I can live with a small ding or scratch - life is too short to sweat the small stuff.....

I don’t even entertain using cases on my Apple Watch.

Only time I use it is if I have to do CNC machining or machine shop stuff, or heavy duty chores.

That’s it.

I wipe my watch down after a workout. Probably not every single time but pretty regularly.
Not a bad idea. I've found the heart rate sensor is more reliable, especially in cooler weather, when the back of the watch is kept clean.

You will keep your Apple Watch for how long? I'd say 3 years average, maybe 5 years top before the battery degrades and its chip will be too slow for later watchOS updates.

What do you use your AW for? I use it to track my exercise and listen to music on the go. Maybe ocassionally look at the time as it's also a wristwatch. Don't spend too much on a expendable accessories, go for the cheapest option that is fast enough for your needs. Yes I may bang it once in a while, it may scratches and dinged during its lifespan, but that's what it's made for.

That gives it character, even when I use it for formal parties and invites, just switch it to stainless straps and it looks good even with all that scratches on the body. Remember, it's not a Tissot or Rolex, and you will replace it every 3-5 years just like your phone, so why worry?
