Interesting. I'm not seeing overnight drain on my XS Max, much like with my iPad Pro. On the other hand, my Android devices with the same setup - phone connected to LTE, WiFi on - do lose a few percent overnight.

It's the way the battery is calibrated and how the phone charges. When plugged in and on, once the battery reaches 100% it stops charging and starts draining as normal. Once it goes down a percent or two it starts charging again. The battery is calibrated to read 100% when in the 97 to 100% range. That way you don't freak out when you wake up and it reads 98 or 99% when it's been charging all night. That's also why it takes a long time to go from 100% to 99% when using as you're really using 3% or more. So yes, even when on the charger all night, the battery will drain slightly. With that said, I highly doubt this rapidly degrades the battery as that other guy said.

Never. Except for updates. Flying I do airplane mode. My device is my link to my wife and it stays on. I don’t do social media. My screen time is 2.5 hours a day. Mostly communicating with my wife and readin news or doing work calls/emails. Yes checking macrumors too.

This AM, it read 99% after being at 100% 6 hours earlier. 3 hours later, it was at 97% after downloading several emails & 2 app updates.

Unplugged I'm assuming. It's really more like 96% and 93-94% after the updates. Your meter is going to read higher than actual capacity up to a certain point when it evens out and becomes accurate. That doesn't occur until it's below 20%. You will almost always have slightly less battery than it states. There is a chart floating around in a thread somewhere that shows the actual vs. meter reading. My numbers might not be wholly accurate - it's just from fuzzy recall of the thread.

I think our modern society is too dependent on these devices. I believe we all need a break from them. Perhaps we can learn moderation, even though it's extremely hard not to slip from moderation...
I understand but my iPhone is my only phone. I don't have a landline so turning it off or taking a break is not an option. I wouldn't want to miss an important or emergency call from family or friends.

As I said in a previous post, I have no problem with these devices being used as standard cell phones. It's the people that are on social media/internet while they are out, and never actually put the device down.

Yeah I guess. Comes with the turf though.

Sometimes I turn it off over night on weekends. I have an 8 Plus, and I like pressing the home “button” when it’s off and feeling nothing. :D

I turn my personal phone off daily when I arrive at work. It stays powered off from the time I arrive at approx 9AM until mid-late afternoon usually between 2PM-4PM. For me this is necessary in order to be able to get any work done. When my phone is on, it lives in DND mode but I am constantly checking for any push alerts and too OCD to not acknowledge the alerts when I see them. This includes everything from texts, emails, news articles, my turn on WWF, etc.

So, my phone being on would be the ultimate disruption to getting any work done. It's actually sort of a trade off though because when I arrive at work, my personal phone (iPhone X) goes off and my work phone (iPhone 7) comes on. The ironic part (for me) is that my work phone has to be on all day but rarely gets used outside of checking emails when not at my desk and sending a few texts during the day.

I could care less about what other people do on their phones. It’s what the people do that I’m with at the moment.

My personal phone is my work phone so it rarely gets turned off, just sometimes put in DND mode.

Mine get's turned off every night. I have a separate alarm clock for waking up. We have a landline phone number which everyone who would need to phone can call.

"Never" is not a good choice.
Rebooting occasionally is a much better option. It only takes 30 seconds to restart which clears up cruft accumulating in the OS.

LOL... glad I wasn't the only one. :)

I have XR now, but used to be a fun trick to show friends the home button doesn't actually move, only haptic feedback.

I do a reboot every now and then but usually my iPhone is always on. From 10 p.m. until the next morning my iPhone activates "do not disturb" and I often turn it into silent mode before sleeping. By travelling to France or Germany (Germany is only about 3.5 miles away from Basel, France is about 2.3 miles away) I turn it off to avoid roaming fees. And of course my phone is rebooting after iOS updates. :)
