How often do you upgrade your IPad ?

My cycle is as follows:
  • iPad (original), jumped on it the first week or so
  • iPad mini (original), replaced my iPad
  • iPad Air (original), replaced mini, went back to larger size
Considering a mini 4 replacement this spring or a new IPP 9.7 or 10" whatever to supplement my MBP 13" 2016. Thinking a mini may fit the bill if it gets an A9x or A10x chip up from it's current A8x AND gets the P3 compliant color in the monitor. Since getting that on my MBP, I can't go back. Love it. Everything else just doesn't cut it anymore for me.

Original iPad at launch-> Original iPad Mini at launch-> iPad Pro 12.9 at launch.

Don't foresee needing to replace the IPP for at least 3 years but will try to stretch it far beyond that considering how powerful it is and how this segment of tech has plateaued.

I have only the original iPad bought at launch in 2010. It still works, and doesn't have a single scratch on it, although the original Apple case has seen better days. Just a shame that it's on IOS 5!

Looking to upgrade to an iPad Pro this year.

The first generation iPad will be stored safely away in it's original box :)

Wow...you've used the iPad1 all this time?

You are in for a treat when you do decide to upgrade.

I've certainly had extremely good value out if it!

It's V-E-R-Y slow now for most purposes, and most new apps won't run on it, so it's definitely time to upgrade. Looking forward to the iPad Pro 2!

iPad 1st gen > Retina > Air 2 > Pro 12.9

Had a few Minis on between but more out of curiosity. They got sold on quickly.

Had the Pro for a year and expect to keep it another 3-4. 4gb RAM was a key factor and will help it last. That's usually the achilles heel on Some devices as iOS adds more year-on-year.

The Pro is the most-used iPad we've ever had - the whole family use it for so many different things on a daily basis.

its cute people think 4gb will make it last longer , the apps use higher resolution and need more memory on the 12.9. 4gb will become obsolete at the sAme time 2gb does on a lower res.

No. That is an incorrect statement. The 2 GB and 4 GB models will not become obsolete at the same time.

I wont upgrade .I will definitely stick with my Air 2 for a while.

I bought an Air 2 not long ago. Nice screen and good battery life. I can't imagine being tempted to update for a few years. Apple may have md the Air 2 too good. The only way I would upgrade it is years later when some of the nicer iPads become affordable.

So I will upgrade to whatever the next version of the Air 2 is. Apple will never nickel and dime me on specs as far as the iPad line goes. I will always buy the one that is the cheapest and the lowest config for that iPad.

If they open the file system or make a MacPad or something I will change my mind. Right now an iPad is an iPad. I will never pay more than the bare entry level prices for an iPad. The Air 2 is a capable tablet and represents the sweet spot in the line up right now. 32GB of unadulterated minimum cost.

iPad 2 at launch as I thought it was a great looking device.

Moved onto iPad Air after that as the space grey finish looked great too.

Won't be upgrading until either I can't update any further or something truly unique comes along from Apple with iPad.

Looking at the old pre-iOS 7 icons and comparing it to now... what a big step back!

Give me back the ios6 motifs.

I agree. The 3D like icons were so nice. I see them on my old iPod touch and think they look very classy. Flat, dead icons seem to be in. Don't know if it's because they help performance or what the reasoning is behind them.

Besides the icons themselves, the legibility of the old icons is tons better.

Look at the Calendar date...no trouble reading the old calendar at all!

Daily "pro" user here. Can't see myself HAVING to upgrade but the rumors of a 10.x model that will have increased specs all around will most likely be my next upgrade from my day 1 12" iPPro.

IPad Air design was /is in my opinion the best iPad design ever made by Apple . The weight alone made me upgrade.

After having an iPad 3 since launch, T-Mobile gifted me a pretty sweet Andriod tablet that was good enough to hold me over for a year or two. I really hope Apple can create a new iPad that will make me want to upgrade by then, but I'm not optimistic.

Bought a refurbished iPad Air 2 128GB in October 2015 as my first tablet. Every iOS update so far has made it feel smoother and faster than ever before (the UI was not very fluid at all on iOS 9.0 but by 9.3 it was pretty great and iOS 10.x is even better). I feel no desperate urge to upgrade just yet. Still feel like I'm in the honeymoon phase with the Air 2 to be honest.

The 4 speakers of the Pro 9.7" are the most tempting thing about it but I can't justify getting one for that alone.

Coming from an iPad air2 I first went into Apple store when 12.9 iPad pro became available to try it out the 4 speakers were one of the biggest things to sell me on it let alone the big screen for media consumption since purchasing it A few weeks later it has turned into my TV and Daly device over my MacBook Pro From mid 2015 don't expect to upgrade for at least a year using it with Apple smart keyboard anybody else using that keyboard also?

My iPad history has been:

1st Gen -> Second Gen -> Mini 2 (Retina) -> Pro 12.9

The changes to and from the mini/pro have been more about my use cases changing than anything.

I never noticed the poll before, but my answer doesn't fit any of the options. I upgrade when the new iPad offers something I really want.

I bought the first iPad the day it came out.

Upgraded to the iPad 2 because it was thinner, lighter, and way faster, and had cameras and twice as much RAM.

Upgraded again to the iPad 3 for the Retina display.

I was put off by the iPad 4 coming out only half a year later and but it didn't really offer much other than a faster processor anyway.

The iPad Air felt hollow and cheap and my iPad 3 was still performing adequately so I passed again.

By the time the iPad Air 2 came out, my iPad 3 felt extremely slow and I just couldn't take the keyboard lag anymore so I upgraded. I suppose because it was slightly thinner still than the iPad Air it didn't feel hollow at all. Definitely the best iPad I ever purchased.

The iPad Pro didn't offer enough to convince me to upgrade, and if the next iPad was simply a processor bump with 3D Touch and the new haptic home button, I'll probably pass again.

I am still using an iPad 2.

Apple hasn't added a single feature that would justify an upgrade for me.

iPad 4
iPad mini 2 (only upgraded because my mom needed an iPad)
iPad Pro 9.7 inch

I had the mini 2 up until a few months ago, but I wanted the iPad Pro for note taking in college. I will probably upgrade after 3 or more years.
