im thinking of going screen protector less with my iPhone. The screen protectors always look like **** in the x.

Any one know?

Same as every other iPhone I've owned. You will most likely get scratches in the Oleophobic coating over time but it's much more difficult to scratch the actual glass. The oleophobic scratches won't be too visible when being used unless you go looking for them. It depends on how well you can tolerate minor scratches.

There is no real answer to your question. Many will tell you that the iPhone X can easily scratch and they have not been satisfied with the durability of the iPhone X display. I personally have no complaints without the use of a screen protector , but everybody's situation is variable.

Do screen protectors scratch more easily. Right now I’m using one I bought for 2 dollars. Doubt it’s thag durable.

I have apple care anyway.

If a scratch in the glass is going to bother you, get a protector. You might be lucky and never get a scratch, but if bad luck hits you, will you be OK with it. If not, get a screen protector.

I may just take it off. To spend 30 on a glass protector when apple care costs 30 to replace screen. Seems wasteful

You don't need to spend $30 on a glass screen protector. The Anker glass screen protector is $8.99 and looks a lot better than a $2 one. Amazon

I already spent same amount I would on using my apple care glass replacement.

Seems a waste to have apple care and keep buying screen protectors.

I personally despise screen protectors. In my opinion, I think displays are durable enough today where they don't need to have protectors unless you want the added protection. I just prefer to use the phone in its entirety without a screen protector and my displays are near perfect.

I've never used a screen protector on any of my iPhones
I used a case briefly, for a couple of weeks one time, but never since
Never had a problem, but then again, I don't go looking for scratches

The glass screens are fairly scratch resistant. Most scratches occur from pocket debris (pocket sand!) and wearing ear jewelry while using the phone.

A lot of the scuffs from daily use tend to be wear on the thin oleophobic layer used to repel finger oils.

Thanks for advice. I kind of baby my phone anyway and since I have apple care if I buy one more screen protector I’ll have spent more than a screen replacement from Apple.

Do glass screen protectors actually stop the actual screen from cracking if it falls? Or that’s false?

Since the original iPhone the glass has been practically impossible to scratch. Even a kitchen knife won’t leave a mark. The oleophobic coating might get marred though the glass is all but bulletproof.

I've owned almost every iPhone since the original and other than tiny hairline scratches (that never bothered me), I've never used a screen protector. Since getting the X and using for a little more than a month, I've already got one really significant scratch, not just on the coating but into the glass, about 2" up from the bottom going from the right edge to about an inch from the left edge. I noticed it about a week ago when in a customer's lobby where the lighting was just perfect to highlight the scratch. I had hoped it was just some smudge, but you can actually feel the ridge of the scratch.

Needless to say it did not make me happy. I never put my iPhone in a pocket with keys or coins so I'm not sure how it happened, but it's bothering me enough that I'm going to get Apple to replace the screen glass (AppleCare+) and then stick a screen protector on it. Really bums me out to have to do this, but owning it for a month and having such a huge scratch already suggests to me it's not as scratch resistant as they say.

I have a full screen glass protector on my X -- something like $8 on Amazon. You can hardly tell there is a screen protector. Before this one I had one that had the notch. That one did look like ass and annoyed me because that part of the screen wasn't protected.

So I wouldn't say all screen protectors look like 4 asterisks, just some. I mostly use protectors because it makes the screen easier to clean. I can put some glass cleaner on a microcloth and not worry about ammonia or alcohol. Also if something more permanent gets on the protector that's a hell of a lot easier to deal with than if it got on the actual screen.

But chips are more likely than scratches. And protectors do a good job taking those on as the first layer of defense. Scratches are easy to prevent -- just keep the phone sequestered in a pocket or compartment that doesn't have anything else in it. And don't toss it around like a sack of potatoes

This is just bad luck, mate. The X' screen is in fact a tiny tad more scratch resistant than the previous ones (same as 8 and 8+)

With previous iPhones, I used an anti-glare screen protector so that my screen didn’t look like a CSI crime scene.

With the X, there are too many gestures for me to have a screen protector in the way.

In the last 30 days I installed 7 screen protectors from different companies and ended up removing them from the iPhone X, non off them looked good on this phone, for that reason I gave up on screen protectors.

I'm sure that may be true, but after 10 years of iPhone ownership and no scratched / gouged screens previously, it's just strange that a month in I've got this horrid looking and feeling scratch on the screen. I'm tempted to just put a protector on top and hold off on getting the screen replaced, but I have AppleCare+, so I think spending the $29 may be a better option, then add a $10 screen cover to keep the replacement scratch-free.

That’s where I am. Why spend more money. By then I’ll have spent 30 bucks. Like that’s crazy. Might as well pay 30 mid year for new screen
