There's never been a more important time to protect both the front AND the back of your iPhone, especially with the iPhone X, 8 and 8+. I'd suggest going with our premium quality 'Eiger 360 Tempered Glass'. Find out more here - http://bit.ly/2ETpMij

My $8 Anker proclaims "Double Defense" and is also tempered -- of course it would have to be tempered or it wouldn't be of any use other than as a picture frame or a medieval torture device. "Premium" "Double Defense," whatever other kind of jargon a company wants to invent -- these protectors are all pretty much the same once you get past design. I've never bought one that cost more than $12.

Always been happy with my purchases. People who buy in the jargon need to realize these companies are playing on their worst fears. The truth is no flimsy sheet of glass is going to protect their device from their worst fears. And all of these protectors will do the job for less catastrophic blows.

You'd have to crack it pretty bad yourself to get it replaced for that price. They don't do cosmetic replacements.
Apple care covers screen replacements. I have to pay anyway so not sure why I couldn’t. You are allowed 2 claims for that are you not

I'm just saying if you try to take it in with scratches and want to use one incident they will most likely deny you because the T&C says it doesn't cover cosmetic damage.

I'm sure that may be true, but after 10 years of iPhone ownership and no scratched / gouged screens previously, it's just strange that a month in I've got this horrid looking and feeling scratch on the screen. I'm tempted to just put a protector on top and hold off on getting the screen replaced, but I have AppleCare+, so I think spending the $29 may be a better option, then add a $10 screen cover to keep the replacement scratch-free.

Just remember you’ll only have one more screen replacement left for the two years. You might wait a bit before getting the first replacement.

Apple will replace it two times for $29. They don’t care when you get it replaced.

I recently got a pretty long scuff that looks like it goes across the front camera (doesn't affect the photos tho) and I'm pretty peeved. I had a 6/6s for 2-3 years and didn't get scratches on it til the very end.

I ordered a tempered glass screen for the first time. Hope it works.

Since the original iPhone the glass has been practically impossible to scratch. Even a kitchen knife won’t leave a mark. The oleophobic coating might get marred though the glass is all but bulletproof.

I mean, this is a pretty big claim that is totally false based on the amount of scratch posts/threads not only on this forum, but countless others.

I’ve been watching scratch test videos every year. YouTube is your friend.

Micro scratched mine just playing with it before getting the screen protector on, so I’m guessing a person has less than twenty minutes of use?

But the glass screen protector will get micro scratches too. Are you going to replace that every time too?

Also I’m in the boat of knowing every year I’ll get that newest iPhone anyway.

No, just that it takes a lot to scratch an iPhone screen. Pocket sand is one of the few things that can.

I've always thought the same thing, given I've owned 9 iPhones that survived without any major scratches (nothing more than micro scratches), but less than a month in on the X and I've got one major scratch. I have never put the phone in my pockets with any keys or coins or other metal objects, so I'm really baffled by how the scratch got there. As I noted previously I will get it replaced and promptly apply a screen protector so it doesn't happen again.

Once they replace the screen, I'll get a protector for it, so hopefully I won't have to use the second screen replacement on the policy. I assume that replacing the screen won't negatively effect the water resistance?

I'd say your X years of experience just proves the point more so that it's just a single bad luck dud. Get the screen replaced and enjoy it is what I say :)

Of course it won't. If you do the replacement yourself and mess it up, it might, but when you get it properly replaced, they'll reapply the rubber seal that keeps it waterproof :)

I don't necessarily think time is relevant, it just depends on how you scratched your iPhone. Micro scratches are inevitable either way, it's just a matter if somebody sees them ot not in the right light.

You can only mitigate micro-scratches

Technically, you can only hide them with the use of a screen protector, which easily conceals the scratches, but they exist either way, it's just a matter if you can ignore them or not.

im thinking of going screen protector less with my iPhone. The screen protectors always look like **** in the x.

Any one know?

There is a simple answer to this. The iPhone X scratches more than any iPhone i previously owned. Either buy a screen protector or better, don't buy the phone at all. For that price tag you expect the promise of the most durable glass to be true. On another note, the glass shattered twice for me also - each time costing me $400AUD to replace...

This is just bad luck, mate. The X' screen is in fact a tiny tad more scratch resistant than the previous ones (same as 8 and 8+)

That statement is in fact not true.

Anecdotal evidence does not equal fact.

You are correct, but a company's claim of this being the strongest glass also does not equal fact.

I do trust my experience with various iPhones over the years and I am sure you would have at least 2-3 friends with similar experience of scratches or broken screens (I know I do and given the numerous online complaints, I am sure this is no coincidence of my social circle miraculously experiencing this).

Anyways, semantics schmemantics. Fact is though that I have a 2-year in use iPhone 6s with less scratches than my iPhone X has after 2 months of usage without obvious change in behaviour.

You’ll be lucky to get it out of the box without a scratch, just get a damn screen protector!

I won't use a screen protector. I don't like the look of them. If you pay a premium for a device, your expectations rise. Give me a $500 phone and I won't complain. But if I pay extra for superior quality and design, I won't wrap up my phone with cases and protectors just so that it doesn't damage. Especially not if I didn't need any for the previous half priced devices from the same company.

I don't like covers in general but that would be a solution, thanks.

I ordered the Essential Phone instead and will sell my iPhone. Easy peasy.... Just wanted to share that the original poster is amongst many to realise the screen or coating to be softer than older phones...
