"Bad" is a very relative term. Even if the sales of iPhone mini really are only a single digit percentage of all iPhone sold, that would still be in absolute numbers something in the range of 10 milion units - a lot more than other manufacturers sold of a single model.

Of course we're talking about relative to Apple's revenue expectations and level of investment.

The iPhone 12 mini project team won't pat themselves on the back and say, "We sold more than this smartphone manufacturer based in India! Let's go ask Tim Cook for a raise!"

If you're in the Ivy League, you don't compare your grades to someone in community college.

It admittedly is not looking good for a 14 mini.

However, as someone else who is also looking into an iPhone in the mini line, I'm choosing to wait until the inevitable keynote in September. If the rumors and supply chain leaks are wrong and we DO get a 14 mini, then GREAT!

If we DON'T, like it looks like based on the leaks and rumors, then the 13 mini will more than likely see a price drop.

So waiting is a pretty win-win option. Either a new mini or a cheap mini.

If I recall correctly, these kinds of rumors told us the iPhone 7 would be dropping the headphone jack before or just after the iPhone 6s came out. Same thing for the notch shrinking and then most-likely being removed. Not all rumors are are pure speculation, some more reputable ones are based on (especially manufacturing) insider-knowledge.

Regardless, the closer we are to the release date of the product the more likely it is that the current rumors will be accurate.

So, it's not technically confirmed but certainly sounds like a mini is not happening. This "No 14 mini" rumor has been around from before the 13 even launched.

On another note, it sounds like the 14 standard models will be a smaller upgrade with the same A15 chip as last year, so the 13 mini shouldn't be too far behind.

The rumours (Ming Kuo etc) heavily imply that there will be no 14 Mini, but 2 6.1" size iphones and 2 6.7" iphones. It has pretty much been taken as a given on MR that this is what's happening, and I have accepted this as well.

However, i was in the Apple store in Regent Street, London on the Weekend, and chatted to one of the staff about the Mini iphones. He very enthusiastically stated that there would be a 14 Mini model, as the Mini iphones are 'very popular'. He also seemed clued up about Tech sites/forums in general, and said "not to listen what people say on Macrumours", so there you go, you heard it here first.

-One- person with a pretty good track record of leaking future products makes the claim that the mini size will be discontinued- and everyone parrots it until the entire internet believes that the consensus is there won’t be one.

That’s how a rumor works.

I'd like to amend this very insightful comment, slightly.

"How a Rumor Works"

It usually starts with someone with an agenda, trying to be humorous, wanting attention, or knowing just enough to get into trouble.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

Definitely doesn't need to start with someone with "a pretty good track record of leaking future products"!

Here is hoping they keep a small factor around in at least every second or third major iteration. I'm still on the SE (first gen as well), with plenty of spare parts since I bought spares when they went on fire sale. I remain absolutely uninterested in a larger phone, so the longer I can stay on these little things the better. Not looking forward to buying at least half a dozen lightning to headphone adapters, but in the end I could live with that if I had to.

Confirming unreleased products sounds like something that could potentially get them in trouble. Sounds like speculation though.

Yes of course, i'm taking it with a pinch of salt, im pretty sure all Apple employees are told by their management that they can never portray a negative image of their products. So even if the Mini's have been selling poorly, they can never say that to customers. But this guy was very sure of himself and kept saying "of course there will be a 14 Mini, they are very popular".

One has to remember Apple is a publicly traded company. So even though the 13 mini was profitable for Apple, they can put their vast resources into bigger more popular versions of iPhones to make it even more profitable for Apple and the stock holders & give those who are eligible at Apple bigger bonuses.

As a mini lover myself who even with the smaller size does not drag his phone everywhere I go and no future for this model; this does have a residual effect of leaving many of Apple's customers like us moving out of Apple's future plans. Thus leaving a bad taste and having a negative result for Apple when laptops, headphones, & services are considered, at least for me.

Isn’t the mini just too small? That would be a step backwards for me. Plus the pro cameras aren’t there. But I could see that the mini would be very beneficial for kids.

I mean OP used their first two sentences to say they like the size so I’m not sure how you missed that?

I have the 1st generation iPhone SE right now (basically the same as the iPhone 5/5S) and I love the size and would like to get the iPhone 13 mini because it's kind of the same size, but with smaller bezels and a bigger screen.

But the overall size is perfect.

Apparently todays rumor about which A-series chip will go where as sorta gave away the fact the Mini is now dead.

The rumour MR posted today about the regular 14 having the A15 chip is not new, Ming Kuo stated the same thing a few weeks ago, which was also posted on MR. But yeah I know what your saying, actually in a way the 13 mini is also the 14 mini, as any potential 14 mini would also have the same A15 chip! It’s not dead yet though, and hopefully they still sell the 13 mini alongside the 14 series.

I’m not talking about chips. Just mentioning that the iPhone 14 will come in regular and Max size; mini was not mentioned which means it’s finally gone.

If there is no 14 mini, then I'll be replacing my 12 mini with the 13 mini after the announcement. I can wait until then.
That's what I'm going to do as well. Although my original SEs Battery is already pretty week. It says it has 88% of its capacity left, but even when full it can empty itself in a matter of half an hour, if I use it too much. And yet I'm in flight mode all the time, don't have bluetooth enabled or other battery-draining stuff. I hope it will survive until the announcement of the iPhone 14.

I really enjoy the 13 mini for being easy to handle, I seldom miss the larger screen. I'll hang onto it for a couple years, maybe there will be a folding phone in my future.

Exactly. They've been talking about under screen TouchID and no notch etc for years, and every year it doesn't happen, and then they day maybe next year.

It’s not really an excuse. Inflation was caused by the government due to the currency expansion over the last 14 years, specifically between 2020-2022. This was always going to happen so I am not surprised. The cost of living crisis has only just begun so by the release of the 14 in September, expect to lose another 5% more of your purchasing power. Apple are aware of this so they will price their products accordingly. I sincerely hope they are able to keep the 13 level at the current price like they did with the M1 MacBook Air.
Yes disposable income keeps shrinking, so a price increase will be even worse. But I'm sure the same people crying they can't afford basic needs will still cough up for a new iPhone.

Yea I got it for TouchID to make paying easier, but it was too small, and battery stank, so it just sits. I remember when I tested SE 2020 vs 13PM, and the latter pummeled the former on battery life.

My question is for the yearly upgraders that buy mini, if there is no 14 Mini, will they pass on 14 or get the regular 14?

With me, once the 14 and 15 have been released and prices for new 13’s have come down, I may buy another 13 mini for insurance purposes to mitigate against having to find one later in the case i have a damaged phone to deal with… to hold me over until the 13 becomes classified as legacy and not supported… at that point who knows what will be available, but I have no doubt my taste for the smaller form factor will not have changed. They make iPad for the bigger screen… and thats what i have for those times…
