Hello
It looks like accordong to what ive read i must have a mac to jailbreak my ATV. I dont own a computer, just my original ipad and my iphone 4s. Is there anyway to jailbreak it without the computer? IF not, does anyone offer this service for a fee?
Thanks

You don't need a Mac but you do need a computer.
For Windows, I used Putty to do all the SSH commands.

So is anyone getting commericals using this method?
I'm watching regular free Hulu, not Hulu+, and I haven't seen one commercial yet. Just a 5-10 second black screen where the commercials ususally are.

interesting. I used to get no commercials at all before I updated my firmware to 4.4.4 and re-installed everything in January. Now I always get a single commercial (30 seconds or less) at the very beginning of a program. Not too bad, in my book.

You need a computer because you have to jailbreak using computer software (seasonpass and iTunes). You also have to ssh into your ATV to install NitoTV. . . though I guess you could do that using an ssh app from your ipad (there are several ssh apps). Also, you need a computer to download and to ftp the bluecop repository to your ATV.

I don't know of an official service that does this for you for a fee.

If you don't own a computer, perhaps you could have a friend come over with a laptop, connect to your home network, and do the jailbreak, ssh, and bluecop install for you?

(By the way. . . how did you set up your wireless home network without a computer?)

installing zip

I have gone through all the steps. I see the zip file on my apple tip and cannot figure out how to install it with m atv remote. Any suggestions? I used cyberduck to transfer download the repository but cannot install the zip file.

Did you try these steps from my original post?

Once you have copied the zip file to your ATV and moved it into the /private/var/mobile/Media director on your ATV. . .

17. On the ATV, go to XBMC. Then go to System --> Add-ons --> “Install from zip file”

18. Browse to var/mobile/media (the folder where you put the zip file), find “repository.bluecop.xbmc-plugins.zip” and press OK (Bluecop is already enabled)

19. Go to System --> Add-ons --> get add-ons, find “bluecop Add-on Repository” click OK, choose video add-ons, find Hulu and install it. Note that after it is “enabled”, you can select the plugin again and select “configure” to enter your Hulu login information. Whether you are a HuluPlus subscriber or just a user of free Hulu, the login can be handy because it allows you to configure your “subscriptions” (which shows you like) on Hulu.com via a computer and web browser, and then you can conveniently access just those subscriptions in XBMC on the ATV, instead of having to search or browse through thousands of shows using the remote.

20. Finally, back out to the front XBMC main menu and go to Videos -> Video add-ons. Find Hulu and enjoy (should work with both regular Hulu and Hulu Plus).

Yes I see the bluecop file in var/mobile/media on my atv. My problem is at the bottom of the screen I see "ok", but am only able to use my remote to select cancel. I cannot navigate to "ok" to select it.

Help

Hello.
My earlier offer was removed so:

If anyone is availble to physically help me jailbreak my ATV let me know.

Thanks

Hmmmm. So the "ok" button is grayed out and it won't let you select it? That's odd.

Seems to imply that XBMC doesn't see the file as a valid zip file, and hence it doesn't think it can install it so it doesn't offer the "ok" button as an option because it doesn't see any files in that directory it can install.

Couple things to try:

1. Is the bluecop file you transfered over end in .xml or .zip? IF it ends in .xml, it's possible that XBMC has grayed-out the "ok" button because it knows that the xml file is not a zip file, and so it wouldn't be able to install it. You need the .zip file. If you do have the .xml file instead, try downloading the bluecop repository again. Perhaps right-click on it and select "save linked file as". Here's the link:
http://bluecop-xbmc-repo.googlecode.com/files/repository.bluecop.xbmc-plugins.zip

You might want to re-download it anyway, just in case you got a corrupted or not-completely-downloaded version.

2. Have you tried quitting and re-launching XBMC and trying again?

It's my understanding that the big greedy Apple will never officially support Hulu on the Apple TV, since it is cheaper than downloading the shows from iTunes.

awesome that fixed it. I didn't have it as a .zip file. So now I am at the point where I went videos-add ons. I click on hulu and is says "error script failed no address associated with hostname." How do I fix this error?

actually none of the add ons work. I see this message (see attached photo) every time i try to access them.

Eh, I don't buy that argument.

iTunes doesn't just have current TV programming. They have tons of old episodes and old movies, which Netflix has in abundance. So the Netflix subscription service still directly competes with iTunes. And yet Apple let it on the Apple TV.

Did you try exiting out of XBMC and then re-loading it and trying again? Several people have reported that being necessary for them to get it working.

I've just done all this, everything worked great. Now that I'm done, is there a way to rearrange the menus on the main AppleTV interface? NitoTV is in the middle of the main screen (and I don't anticipate needing it again). Can I uninstall it, or at least move it off to the right (past settings)?

Partially answered my own question:
Installed "overflow" from NitoTV, then rebooted. That creates a new menu called Overflow. You can then move any previous menu item in there. I moved Music (I don't use iTunes Mactch) and NitoTV. Now I can see everything except for Settings on one screen.

Wow, this works great. This is my first time using Hulu. I just started streaming an episode of Family Guy. I might have to cancel my cable.

Any luck solving the "error script" issue? I installed last week and receive this same error message for ESPN and Hulu only. I am able to view Free Cable, History Channel, etc. So for a week now and nothing has changed, still can not access Hulu.

Help...

Lack of Hulu made me buy a Roku ! So let hulu live in ATV already !!

Got hulu up and running, but it plays the ad brought to you by hulu plus everytime and then kicks back out to the menu. any thoughts?

First week after I got this working I had no commercials at all -- just a black screen for about 15 seconds where the commercials normally are.
Now all of a sudden I've got commercials.
:(
Wish there was some rhyme or reason to all this.

That happened to me today. It's been working great, then suddenly it looks like it's about to start...I see a 15 second commercial, then back to the previous screen and the show is gone. Good news is I found other XBMC addons and I am testing them out. Though I am hoping hulu starts working again.

Oh mine works....
It just used to work commercial-free.
Now it works but with commercials.
