Sorry, can you restate this as if im a 6 year old

I'm not that tech savy, so any help will be appreciated.

:D

Yes, you don't have to purchase anything. Now that it's jailbroken you need to install XBMC first, then you use a terminal, (I used Filezilla client) and follow instructions. Once you put the zip file in the folder you just install with your remote in the xmbc client on the TV.

Now that you're jailbroken the rest of the steps are in the beginning of this thread.

Follow through the steps and let us know where you get lost.

Just make sure you:
1.Install XBMC (done on your TV through the Manage settings on ATV).
2. SFTP into the ATV using your computer and the application I linked and paste that bluecop zip file in the correct location.
3. go back onto the TV and install HULU through the zip file.

There are little steps in each one of those like getting your internal ip address, logging in with the username and password....and where to drop the zip file...but they are all located in the beginning of this thread. I'll monitor this thread on and off starting about 5:30 EST, and will try to assist when I get home if you have specific questions.

wow

Wow, thats very kind.

I wont have an opportunity until later tonight but I'll defintley be here if I have questions.

Those steps are for a MAC, right? I see the PC (what I have to use, since I gave my mac to my mother) ones on page 5 of this thread.

The steps work the same for MAC and PC. As long as you're trying to install the zip file. I did it with a PC.

Well after I setup everything on hulu via ATV2, I decided to trial Hulu Plus. I have to say it's amazing. I got so I see zero commercial and half the shows are so clear you can't tell they are being streamed. My wife is from Japan, and I found some Japanese shows (mostly anime so far) and she's happy about that. I am think I am damn near ready to turn off cable.

I also found zatoichi, a 1960's TV series from Japan that's really cool. Not as good as the movie, but a good storyline.

How do you get it so there are no commercials?

Can't seem to get step 5 to work

I am having some trouble with step 5. It is possible I didn't do the first part correct, I'll admit that. I get two different error messages depending on what I type in the command line portion:

Type: ssh –l root (IP ADDRESS)
Get: ssh: Could not resolve hostname apple-tv.local: nodename nor servname provided, or not known

Type: ssh root@(IP ADDRESS)
Get: ssh: connect to host (IP ADDRESS) port 22: Connection refused

I'm not sure if this means anything, but I am getting an IP Address that isn't 192.168.xxx.xxx but rather a 10.0.xxx.xxx

Could this be the problem? I can't imagine. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You're getting a 10.x ip address because you are probably using an Apple router. Make sure you use that address.

Here you go. I just hosted it on my site. Yes, hulu plus does work. when you're over the hulu app, just hold MENU for more options.

edit: actually I am going to pm you the link.

Netflix is still on the ATV, but you have to back your way out of XBMC. Keep hitting menu until you're at the main XBMC screen. Then arrow down to the "power button", this will take you back to the ATV menu.

Thanks for the help. I ended up restoring the atv through iTunes and repeating steps 1-4 and that allowed step 5 to work for me.

Though now I am having a beast of a time getting Hulu to actually play anything correctly. I tried watching Simpsons last night and it never was in sync. Is this common for Hulu through XBMC?

Is your ATV wired or wireless? I watched HULU last night in my bedroom for the first time. It's hooked up wireless, I had to lower the settings to get it to play in sync. I think I changed the video quality to the lowest setting. 480i and the lowest bit rate, then it worked fine. The hardwired one I have in the living room hasn't had a problem yet, and it's connected with the highest settings.

FWIW I had to resize XBMC to about 98% in order to properly see the "power button".
Don't know if others might have the same problem but you can do this from the XBMC settings page within XBMC.

The settings were perfect on my bedroom TV, in the living room I had to bring it to 96%. I used in in the living room for a long time on 100% and was annoyed. Didn't know I could change it.

When you go to the main addon screen, scroll down to Hulu and press and hold "menu" there are ad settings turn them to zero. I signed up for Hulu plus also, not sure of that helps.

Thanks for this! I didn't know it was possible to disable the ads. I'll try it tonight!

(And thanks for helping others out in this thread!) :)

This worked great.

Question though. I'm in Japan and we can sign up for a one month offer. Hulu is now actually available in Japan which is great. Lots of ATV2 potential here.

How do I get Hulu Plus?

http://www.hulu.jp/en

I noticed there are even some Japanese shows. What should I do about a login etc?

ok so I've been playing with Hulu for a while now. What's the big deal? It's just like YouTube. Plus lots of the shows don't even stream. Most of the shows are totally old. lol

Don't know what all the fuss was about. Maybe I'm missing something.

Maybe in Hulu Japan?

Most of the popular network shows are streaming the day after they're aired, and many of them in HD.

Yep Hulu Japan has old shows and limited seasons. But, for 1480 yen a month it is not a bad deal. If you do not speak Japanese or want English TV and movies easily it is much easier and cheaper than cable which costs a ton and you get very few USA programs.

The suck part is that the jb and xbmc does not support Hulu Japan because it is browser only and so you need to connect an HDMI from your computer.

But still, there are a lot of shows I never watched before or forgot and will watch again like X-Files, 24,House, CSI, Walking Dead, The Office and more that make it worth it to me here. I'd much rather fire up Hulu and pick a show than to search the Internet and hope to find a decent quality show to watch.
