Are you guys seeing this activity with wifi on or off? I usually leave my rMBP plugged in on my desk via ethernet, just wondering if it works wired or if it's another thing that needs wifi to work.

the 2010 MBA is still connected to the network when asleep. I can confirm that.

If Apple doesn't release a firmware update for the other computers then it's absolutely outrageous. Especially considering they promised paying customers to be supported.

Definetly works on my MBA 11" late 2010 model

I turned off my Wi-Fi router before opening it this morning, and it was all there, including several TM backups.

Just curious before I install this, how is everything else? Do the fans run more, or any other negative things? Thanks!

I installed the Firmware on my MBA 13" late 2010.
No problems or side effects. But no working Power Nap.
I did the SMC thing, but nothing.
The Power Nap function is in the power setting activated but didn't do anything. well.. it was worth a try

Still works 100% on my MBA 11", no side effects, no more fans than usual, no weird behavior whatsoever.

hmm.. thats strange. so what are we/I doing wrong?
Installed the firmware that is promoted here.. did the SMC thing...
Reset the power saving settings and set the power nap.

But when mail is open, MBA in sleep, no mails are there when I open it.
Just a few seconds later after mail is receiving. :(

Not even displaying the power nap option in energy saving preferences for me on 2010 MBA 13

Update - tried again and it's there now! Don't think machine shut down in time on the 1st attempt.

So boys.. even after a clean new install of ML on my MBA the power nap feature doesnt work for me. I think I give up. :(

Is there a way to deinstall the here downloaded SMC and go back to the regular EFI 2.3?

Thanks for posting these 2010 MacBook Air SMC updates!

Power Nap in OS X Mountain Lion works just fine now on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Late 2010), both on battery or on AC. E-mails are received and Time Machine continues per the way the feature is advertised. No fan activity at all while "Power Napping", Apple logo on cover is dark, from appearances no different from previous sleep mode.

Side effect is that opening the lid to wake from sleep is truly instant as well. It only used to take around a second for the computer to be responsive previously, so it's not like it was a problem, but now that second is gone.

I don't know why it doesn't work for some folks, but it clearly works for me. My MBA:

Model Identifier: MacBookAir3,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBA31.0061.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.66f57

APPLE SSD TS256C:

Capacity: 251 GB (251,000,193,024 bytes)
Model: APPLE SSD TS256C
Revision: CJAA0201

They never said anything about powernap when you bought your 2010 air.

Maybe there are issues in the firmware (not related to power nap)? Maybe it isn't reliable? Who knows.

So what.. Enjoy the other nice features of ML.

Did you leave it sleeping for at least an hour? Is there any activity shown in Console.app while it was asleep? Did you try resetting the SMC?

but you do realize it only checks for mails once an hour right?

How often does Power Nap check for updates or back up?

- Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Photo Stream, Find My Mac, and iCloud Documents are checked every hour.
- Time Machine backups are attempted hourly until a successful backup has been completed.
- Software Updates are checked daily.
- Mac App Store downloads are checked once a week.

Ok, I installed the firmware on my 13", I guess well see how it goes!

Side note, I take it mail has to be open for this to work?

REASON077 A Star! PowerNap Works!

Thanks for all the help Reason077! PowerNap seems to be working OK on 2010 11" MBA I followed the advice including the SMC reset. I had emails, Notes and
Calender entries which were sent from my iPhone after putting the MBA to PowerNap last night. They all came through when we were both asleep. A PhotoStream picture into Aperture seemed to arrive on opening the app though, and I have not worked out iCloud documents yet...

On the Curious Incident Of The Removed Capability, I agree with the comment above that no-one offered us this in 2010 so we cant complain. It would be nice to find out why Apple changed their minds, as it does not seem to be a Sandy Bridge hardware feature which our Intel 2 Duo macs lack. All ideas welcome, but try not to moan so much everyone! It's all pretty good stuff we have here and we could always go to PC World and get a Windows machine if we wanted..

I can't install the SMC Firmware. The version for the mid 2011 Air downloads, but then tells me my system doesn't support it when I try to install it. Anyone else came across this? The settings in Energy Saver Preferences look right, though.

This is great, although I havent tried it yet personally. I have installed it, just hasn't let the MBA charge over night. Will tonight though! Thanks.

I thought of one thing, cant one just make a applescript telling some applications to do stuff at certain times during the day. Load up iTunes, sync, check mail, messages, sync photostream etc. Just combine all of them in one script and then lauch that every night? I've tested Dougs Applescript for syncing podcasts and it works. This way one could make he's own PowerNap applescript. What do you think?

Did you download the pkg's in Post #1 of this thread? They are for Late 2010 MBAs (11" and 13"). They appeared to install fine for everyone that responded to this thread.

Installed on my Late 2010 Air 13" and it doesn't seem to be working. The setting is under Display in System Preferences but nothing is updated while asleep. No emails, messages, Time Machine backups and I cant see it in Find My Mac. Yes I have left it overnight twice and nothing.

Done the SMC reset and still nothing.

A confirmatory check to determine if PN is working or not is to fire up the Console app and check the timestamps in the log files to see if the mac is waking up while asleep to check mail, download updates, etc,. For the supported models, it just works fine.

MacBook Pro sandybridge?

Do you think there is any possibility of getting this to work on my early 2011 15" MBP? I mean, the cpu is sandy bridge after all and it has a 128Gb Vertex 4 SSD... :D

Thanks, sb, no I used the link at Apple's pages for the mid 2011 Air. I got some help via the Apple knowledge bank and according to one of the posters there it should already be installed on my machine. I'm away now so haven't been able to test it yet, but will do when I get home on Monday.
