Unfortunately, I don't think there is... I've upgraded to the pre release version of 10.8.2 having already installed the firmware from the OP and Power Nap has never and still isn't working for me, even with "official" support.

As Apple has not made the firmware for PN available outside of Dev, I would assume that the update to 10.8.2 will trigger a download of the firmware for 2010 MBAs. This may or may not be an updated firmware from that already released.

Updated to 10.8.2 - no power nap. Just checked for updates and there's the SMC update in the App store...

There is no need to uninstall it. Now that 10.8.2 has been released, you will receive an update to the latest SMC firmware (1.66f60) via software update. This supersedes the 1.66f57 version which was posted here.

I'm removing the links to the old firmware packages as they are now obsolete, and to prevent anyone else accidentally installing them on the wrong hardware.

I got the SMC update but my System Information reports having 1.67f9. That doesn't sound right when compared to what you referenced earlier.

Sorry, I was referring to the 13" MBA (Late 2010). Presumably you're using the 11" model will have a different version number, as you noted.

Hi all,

I just updated my 2010 Macbook air with 10.8.2 and EFI program. And it seems that Power Nap is not working for me. I am plugged in and Power Nap option is checked in the system preference.

The time machine backup in progress stop immediatly when I close the lid. The hard drive is a USB one (not wifi).

Also If I send an email to my Mac or create a new note on my iphone, I can't find it on the mac when I reopen it. When I open the lid, the MacBook air starts searching for wifi (during 10sec aprox) before it connects and then get emails and icloud sync. Normaly when I close the lid it should not cut the wifi right ?

Thank you in advance for your help !

When you put it to sleep, it goes to sleep right away. It won't wake itself to do backups/mail checking until one hour after its asleep. (Powernap works once an hour.) Also, the app you want updated has to be open when you put it to sleep -- Mail wont check for messages unless it is open, for example.

Once it's done backing up, checking mail, etc., it will then go back to sleep, just as it was, without you knowing it ever did anything :)

If you really want to check to see if its working, open Console, it should show you where it woke up once an hour, did its then, and then went back to sleep.

Thanks for your reply !
I let it asleep this night and I see that it made one time machine backup.
But no mail even if the mail app was opened. I guess it is a different issue with my Mac: It takes a lot of time to connect to the wifi when I wake it up and sometimes I have to choose back the network by myself. This has been an issue with my MBA since I upgraded to Lion...

On a side note, does anyone know why there is no EFI/SMC update showing up in my AppStore with the 10.8.2? I haven't installed the 10.8.2 update yet only because it means closing my PhotoShop trial which is on it's last use.

I tried looking for the update in Apple's PowerNap support page and the EFI/SMC update page, but I don't see the version you mentioned there. Any ideas?

SMC Update v1.7 ??

Sorry Guys I'm confused.
I have the MacBook Air 13" Late 2010 (MacBookAir3,2)
I installed the first in this thread announced tweaked update.
PowerNap was shown, but not working.

Now I updated to 10.8.2, also I think there was the EFI update. Nothing is in the Softwareupdate now.
In my System Hardware Overview I see now SMC-Version (System): 1.66f60
Is this correct and the latest one??

But what is then the SMC Update v1.7 on the Apples Site?
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1590?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

When I try to install this, it doesn't work. It says the software is not for my system.

I'm really confused and I'm very sorry to bother you with my question but hope somebody shed light to this.

Thanks in advance for your help and reply.

1.66f60 is what installed for me after 10.8.2 and having previously update the EFI file in the OP. Everything looks like it working as designed now

After the 10.8.2 update, I got another update today with the explicit announcement that this would be an upgrade to accompany 10.8.2 to upgrade the SMC.

My SMC version now stands on 1.67f9.

Power Nap has been activated ever since I installed the beta version from this thread.

However, how should it work with Mail? Do I need to leave the application running before closing the lid? How about updates? I seem to have the feature activated, but have no idea if it is actually working or not.

Any ideas, anyone?

Run the Software Update twice to get SMC 1.7.

I ran the 10.8.2 update a few minutes ago and was prompted to reboot. I see this in System Information for my MBA late 2010 11".
Boot ROM Version: MBA31.0061.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.67f6

Only now, after 10.8.2 installed do I see the SMC 1.7 available when I run Software Update again. I'll test PowerNap after the new SMC installs.

For those who were inflicted with case of accidental flash of SMC, we have found the solution to it. This was done collaboratively between Reason077 and myslef after several tries and it WORKED!.

As I have posted here, my original postulation of the solution was correct and when applied correctly, it flashes and the machine is in the fully operating state with fans working and SMCfanControl able to control their speed. Battery charging, keyboard light working, all on the MBP 5,1.

If you have another model, you will need to extract the smc file from the package and maybe hack the version number (Reason077 can help here if needed, takes a few mins only). Pls PM me if you really need to restore your MBP (maybe MB as well) to full operational state.

The idea was us to use the new Flasher and the original smc with faked version number. The end result is the real version number will show in the machine which was really intended, so the OS would not complain if it checks. Reason077 wrote a very nice Perl script that does the Blessing of the Flasher in order to Boot-Load the EFI writer with the right payload file. Download file is 3 posts below ... Good Luck.

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Just a message to say a very big Thank you to you and Reason077 for your MacBook Pro 5,1 SMC files. A Happy New Year to you both.

Kindest regards,

Lee
