iPhone 14 Pro Max How to live with the lower new “island” notch?

The pill cutout is getting noticed primarily because it's a physical change and its presence has been brought to your attention so you can't unsee it but visual occlusion will make it almost disappear over time if you give it a chance unless we need to call a whambulance otherwise. Just kidding. It's all personal preference. It's all good. Enjoy your iPhone 14.
 
Give it six months and when all the third parties start coming on board for the Dynamic Island and we have live activities in that space as well, all this nonsense talk that’s going on right now will disappear

I mean tbh for me it's easy because I like the fact that it's interactive. The fact that you can do stuff with it makes all the difference. If it was just a black blob then I'd be more annoyed but as it stands I just want more apps to make use of it.

I think one of the funniest things I read about the new cut out came from a member of this forum when he or she bemoaned the capsule design and waxed nostalgic about the notch saying it was “elegant”. After all these years with a lot of people bitching about the notch we now have people missing it.

I just can’t anymore with this silliness.

Face ID technology, they cannot get it under the display (yet, hopefully they do some day).

The people missing it now for the most part aren’t the people who were bitching about it. Different people, different preferences. Because people are different, no iPhone model will ever please everyone, and there will always be features that some people dislike (different people for different features). There is nothing silly about it.

I didn’t mind the notch and I don’t mind the new pill. Neither is distracting to me. The only thing I had to get used to was tapping above the pill to go back to the top of a page. I wonder if developers, in this case for YouTube, will make adjustments so that the pill won’t be visible when watching videos.

People are making a big deal out of nothing. The UI functionality makes the feature elegant by its nature vs just the cutout. If it bothers you, buy the non-Pro iPhone 14 variant.

I just got off my first call with the 14 PM and the whole time I’m staring at the island digging the audio animation. My audio was on the right and yellow the other person on the left and green.
My friend was curious what it looked like so went to do a screen recording and the island split for the call and screen recording control.
I’m feeling the island.

This has to be satire, right? I thought the same thing about the guy who said he "wanted to take a trip to Dynamic Island" and was disappointed with the results. How can people this neurotic exist? Take a trip to a real island and get in touch with reality, good God.

Also on the YouTube app if you play that same video using the 13 pro instead of the pro max the notch also gets in the way. YouTube just isn’t great with making their app work with either the pill OR the notch. That’s on the YouTube developers.

Since it is physically lower, the only way is having a smaller video to “solve” it.
 
The only thing I’m having to get used to is muscle memory before was to tap the top to jump to the top in safari, that doesn’t work 100% with the DI so you have to click on top either to the left or right. Just will take some time to get used to.

Correct, they need to properly scale the video on certain devices so that the video doesn’t go into the pill or the notch. It can be done, some video apps have for previous phones with a notch and others haven’t. This issue has been around well before the pill and developers have the ability to design with the notch or pill in mind.

Pay so much money for 14 pro max but watching a smaller video than 14 plus,13 pro max,12 pro max? lol xd

Do you have a 14 pro max? Have you compared what the video looks like in the app vs what it looks like in the browser when it’s scaled to not show the pill? If so, do you notice a big difference? I don’t. So it wouldn’t bother me if gets scaled a little bit in the app.

You could save some money and stick with a 13 pro max or 12 pro max then if that video size for certain videos is of utmost importance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve said it before in another thread. In my view your phone shouldn’t be your dedicated media engine. Yes you can watch YouTube and other things on the road and on the go with your phone, but you really should have a tablet, a laptop, or dedicated console for max viewing of media or gaming.

I use my phone for calls, texting, banking apps, paying bills, stocks/investments, navigation, CarPlay, email etc. etc. etc., so for me the Dynamic Island adds to the multitasking of all these activities. The cut out to me makes no difference just like the notch before it.

Big difference or not is personal feeling, but paying the most to buy 14 pro max suppose to have the biggest screen experience, not smaller than 13,12,11 pro max and 14+

Carrying two devices instead of one is a pain, I would use iPhone to watch YouTube or whatever at home may be 50% of the time since it is just more convenient while I have iPad.
