I'm wondering the same thing. I don't want to install Vista if the only way to get it back is to delete the whole hard drive and reinstall OSX from scratch. Would something like gparted work to delete the Vista partition and everything would be back to normal?

Yeah heres the thing.

I deleted vista, but you cant do it in Bootcamp becayse bootcamp wont work anymore. It tells you to use disc utility and erase your drive as 1 partition.

I used target mode and did that, and then restored my cloned macintosh hd. BUT bootcamp still wont work and continues to tell me to make the drive 1 partition, which it is?

I'm guessing a complete format and install with osX cd's is required. :(

Sorted. Created a new thread for those in a similar boat.

you might also not and render your mac totally unbootable. and when i say totally, i mean totally: you won't get any further than a power button lighting up and then dying on you. of course, you then have a whole new exciting challenge ahead of you: bringing a mac back from the dead. (see http://www.voodoo.org)

You are incorrect. Deleting the EFI parition will not render your mac totally unbootable. It could, potentially(a small potential), render your drive unbootable until such time that you repartition it using your Install Disc.

I smell FUD.

Like BIOS, vital EFI information is not stored on the hard drive but rather in ROM. Apple uses the hard drive to store information to add functionality to EFI like the many features in Boot Camp, for example. People will not make their Macs totally unbootable by deleting said partition. In the worst case scenario, you will always be able to boot off of the restore disks and use diskutil to repair the EFI partition.

After a few false starts I have finally got a working Vista up and running on my MBP. This is assuming you already have a working copy of XP installed using BootCamp. Here is what I did:

1. Download the .i... bla bla bla bla bla...

Is this the same guide for us.. who have a iMac 20" Core duo?
And what if i all ready had installed windows xp on bootcamp? can i just install vista above the XP partition?

And.. some thing els.. i lost the clue.... Shall i delete the 200mb partition (EFI??) or not?
i know.. that there was some romure that VISTA Beta 1 deletet all partitions on the harddrive doing install ... and i would cry.. if VISTA Beta 2 did the same..

It should work fine on a iMac. As long as you don't delete your OS X partition in the Vista installer it isn't going anywhere. If you don't delete the EFI partition Vista will not boot. Hopefully this will change by RC1 and at the latest, RTM.

P.S. Your misspelling of rumor on the MacRumors forum might be the funniest thing I have read in a long time. ;)

wrong stuff

it is amazing how much conjecture and false comments are on this board. why would you post something unless you really knew?

Running Vista beta 2 on macbook ...i have aero glass working correctly. In order to get glass to work you need 128 mb of video ram...the macbook is using the GMA 950 chipset which has 64mb shared with main memory. So if you want glass you need 1gb of ram so the second 512 mb can be used for video memory.

if you still dont have glass try running windows update a few times and run the performance assesment tool. It also works sometimes if you go to visual appearance > classic appearance and change theme to aero basic (apply) then aero (apply).

Where has anyone said anything false about Aero in this thread? Or did you mean to put this somewhere else?

I just can't seem to get Aero to work on my Intel Mini (Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 100 GB HD). When I run performance rating I get a score of 2. It says I have 256 MB graphics memeory so that shouldn't be an issue. What does a score of 2 mean?

I have tried the suggestions of therobot posted above. Ran the update a few times, and did the performance rating again but no luck. Checked the themes but I do not have Aero as an option, only Vista basic.

I notice that other people get Aero to work on MacBooks so it should work on a Mini with my config?

Thanx in advance.

you need to open up the controll panel go into device manager and note the two 945G display drivers, double click on each in turn and do this: click update driver and click to do this manually then make sure to show all drivers and select the intel lakeport WWCD driver, it'll prompt you to make sure you really want to, say yes.

do that to both of them then restart and you should be able to get aero as you have been trying

my partition was 10GB, oh and aero is not working for me as it only works with more than 512MB of ram, though i have ordered 2GB it's just takeing an age to arrive.

I got that one too, and it took me quite a while to figure it out. It turns out that it's Microsoft-speak for "your partition needs to be at least 12 GB."

Yep, folks dont seem to realise HOW big vista on it's own is. 7-9gb just for the operating system. Remenber windows like double the amount of space to manage files and keep virtual memory running so your talking around 20gb required if you want vista to run properly with a few apps installed.

Thanks for the help Hector, but unfortunately it didn't work at all. First, there was only one 945G driver instead of two. Then I found the Intel Lakeport driver, but it was called WDDM, is this the correct one? After installation and restart, the screen was just black. I could, however, easily start up in safe mode and do a driver roll back.

Any suggestions?

Both bootcamp and Vista are beta releases. Man you guys are bold.

Bold? I do not agree. This Vista beta 2 is very stable. I have been running it for several weeks without any crash or other problems. I love my OSX, but I must admit that Vista interface is very appealing. Looking forward to the day when I can run Leopard and Vista, and get the best from two worlds...

I don't know. How do I check?

dual channel is when you run two matched sticks, single channel is when you run either unmatched sticks or just one stick.

OK, I see. I bought this pre-built in an Apple store. I assume that they put in 2x512...

Edit: I guess I can check in system info in OS X..?
