If they can rectify the One's initial issues, then I'd seriously consider it.

The only thing I gave my HTC One up for was the camera. The 4mp Ultrapixel camera was just not up to the job for me.

If they stick with ultra pixel and only go unto 6mp then I'll likely pass.

They really need to go 8mp with UltraPixel or simply forget the ultra pixel BS and put a 20mp with a wide lens and OIS

Didn't you buy a camera on the cheap from Amazon back when. If so, ....

Yeah I did, but when I took it up a mountain climbing, the humidity screwed it up !!!, despite the fact it was in a plastic bag to prevent the elements getting to it :( :(

I haven't bothered replacing that since.

----------

That would kill any interest I would have in going back to HTC despite preferring Sense 5 aesthetically over either Touchwiz or surprisingly Stock KitKat.

The HTC One is still one of the fastest handsets out there despite it's older internals in comparison to some newer devices. It's android skin is fast and it is consistently smooth and has no problems other than 1 big one.... it's camera. So why give it faster internals, when it is not performance that the phone has an issue with - its the camera ??? Seriously HTC ???

----------

I don't trust PhoneArena and its sources. They're wrong more than right.

Fingers crossed - though I still suspect a 6mp ultra pixel camera won't be able to compete with the 20mp camera's that will arrive with the wave of 2014 android flagship...

Is it so difficult for them to understand that the whole 4 ultrapixel camera was a completely wrong idea?

Is it so hard for them to go back to the normal route with 12-16mpx cameras?

And then they wonder why are they doing so bad?????

But, it's the same story always. Just look at Nokia... Did they really thought it was better to go all in with Windows Phone instead of Android?

Keep with the ultrapixel bul***** HTC and you will end like Nokia... Nokia who?

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Reading the article, they have a valid exscuse for why it might still be a 4MP ... erm I mean ultrapixel shooter.

"Why didn’t HTC make the One successor with a camera boasting more megapixels, and - very likely - higher level of resolved detail? We are just speculating here, but it’s possible that since HTC has had optics maker ST Microelectronics exclusively develop the 4-megapixel ST VD6869 2.0µm, 1/3-inch image sensor for the One, it also had to sign a longer-term deal for this exclusivity. This would have made “UltraPixel” a long-term bet for HTC, and regardless of the lukewarm camera reviews, the company might just not have been able to break that contract. Or the lack of a higher-pixel camera could be something totally unrelated, like the automated Highlights Reels that HTC is able to quickly and efficiently make with the smaller-sized 4-megapixel images."

So even if they wanted to, i doubt they could afford to get out of this deal. Still a deal breaker though. Silly HTC, putting all your microchips in one basket.

Might buy that if:

1. Screen remains at 4.7, but bezels and body are further slimmed for ergonomic reasons.

2. Ultra pixel is bumped to 8 mp or a regular camera is used with OIS, maybe 13 mp or more but if possible still having a bit larger pixels for low light.

3. It can also be converted to full gpe version (didn't buy the one as gpe made the 4 mp cam useless, and hate that I have to manually flash gpe Roms on my gs4 without full conversion).

That is also considering IF I don't buy a wp or iOS handset this year :)

Pretty satisfied with the HTC One from 2013 already. Multiple "phone of the year" award winner. There are only a couple of things I didnt like from the HTC One and that is camera and battery life.

But recently, the batt life has been very good to me as of late. I removed the Motion Actions app that wakes up my screen after a shake. I didn't want to wear out my power button but that app was killing my batt about 30% faster with the sensor. So i removed that app, went to a static wallpaper, 25% brightness most times, added the SMS Wakeup app to wake the screen after a text, and kept my sleep longer at 2 min with the Screen Off & Lock app to turn it off if I wanted it sooner than 2 min. This helps some wear and tear on the power button. Now my batt is definitely alot better. Around 6-7 hrs screen time or above 8+ hrs with airplane mode on. About 30-35% more juice.

My biggest fear with the latest One+ is that the navigation buttons are now on-screen. I prefer the capacitive button on the bottom. When I play around with the Xperia Z series or Nexus or G2, I generally don't like the on-screen buttons. True, they disappear even if they take up some real estate. But when I text, sometimes if I press the spacebar it will hit the home key below it.

Usually sequels are not always better except on technical terms. I will stick to the original One and then upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy F phone in the near future. So many great choices now. Texting on the HTC One has been sublime for me. The back and home button is toward the left or right and I don't have accidental presses with the spacebar. I prefer it the older way and not the way Google intended since ICS/Galaxy Nexus days.

IDK, to me, it looks like a nexus 5 with uglier software, albeit with slightly better hardware.

On screen buttons is all it would take for me. The button layout on the One was just stupid to me. Wasted space with that big HTC logo in the middle and the home button placement was awkward.

Well, that's disappointing...

Nothing really exciting... same RAM, better CPU/GPU but with 805/340 coming some months after, same camera, slightly better battery (seems like only 2700 and not 3000), same display, etc.

Only thing I like is more manufacturers going with the on screen buttons. Finally!!

I guess I will pass on this and try again with the Nexus 5

So it seems HTC UK and Netherlands have confirmed the HTC One X and X+ will remain on 4.2.

That's just two updates for the One X and only one for the X+ (in this case I'm not surprised at all).

Doesn't give me much confidence on buying the One 2014...

I'd put more weight in the fact the the HTC One has already been updated to 4.4 since starting on 4.1.2 less than a year ago.

What's going to keep me from considering the new One is HTC's insistence on using the same crappy Ultra pixel camera.

Their sorry camera is why I went with an iPhone 5s...I was REALLY planning on the HTC one until I saw the reviews roll in condemning the 4mp camera. I take ALOT of pictures.
