I was so excited for this phone. It didn't come to VZW though, glad it didn't too because from what I've seen it's not the phone I'm lookign for.

I doubt we'll see any quad core phones state side this year. Even the S3 won't be quad core because of LTE.
I actually hope the AT&T version sticks with quad core and forgoes LTE, hspa+ is more than fast enough w/o the battery drain and data drain LTE is and has much better and stable coverage (even Verizon is spotty here in South FL, one second it's high dl, next barely 3g speeds, sometimes on/off multiple times a day etc). Maybe in another year or so when LTE is expanded further and newer chipsets etc. Previous GSII had multiple variations, so hopefully they'll have the QC version and then if you want LTE you'll have one for that as well (kinda like the i777 and Skyrocket difference).

LTE isn't mainstream enough for your point to be valid.

At the huge expense of battery life it may not be worth bit for some people until battery tech catches up...

Sure, it is. Thats just something uneducated people who don't have an LTE or 4G equipped phone say to make themselves feel better. Over 200 million people isn't "mainstream" enough for you? battery tech has caught up. My Razr Maxx lasts more than twice as long running LTE as my 4s running 3G...

Once you go LTE...

Seriously, it is 10x faster than CDMA and HSPA+. Plus the ping times are less than 100ms. It feels like WiFi. If you can tell the difference between WiFi and 3G, you definitely want LTE. I'll take the RAZR MAXX or even swap batteries to get LTE. It is that much of a game changer in the mobile world.

The AT&T One X is dual core and does not offer the option to disable LTE.

Even though LTE does drain the battery of most devices, the early word is that the dual core allows for better battery life compared to the international edition. This will be confirmed (or not) in a matter of days once the embargo on the official reviews are lifted.

I just spent 20 minutes with the One X at my local AT&T store. My second round. Some observations.

The screen just blows away the iPhone 4/4S. It's honestly absurd how sharp it is. Whites are significantly white and everything just looks incredible. (Pictures, video, text, backgrounds, etc.)

Wi-fi was enabled however the sales rep told me they were having an issue with the cellular connection (I didn't ask what exactly). The rep was nice enough to download Chrome Beta for me to mess with.

Chrome Beta over wi-fi was faster than Safari on my iP4. I was able to handle the unit somewhat easily with one hand. I have smallish hands but was able to reach the address bar with my thumb in portrait without too much discomfort. I think the light weight of the device and curved backing help a great deal with respect to using it with one hand.

There were seven levels with respect to increasing and decreasing the volume. I believe the iPhone has 16 levels.

The unit I was handed appeared to have full power. Because ICS does not have a battery percentage indicator by default, I was unable to notice how much battery I lost in my 20 minutes on wi-fi. When I returned the device it did not appear as if the battery icon changed much, or at all.

I do have one serious gripe, and it has to do with Chrome. In order to access your bookmarks, you need to tap 'Menu' and then 'Bookmarks'. On Safari I simply tap the dedicated bookmarks icon. So it's an additional step, and while it may not seem like a big deal, it most certainly is. At least for me it is. That extra tap is a pain in the arse. I spend a lot of time browsing on Safari with my iPhone and I can't get used to that additional step. I can't believe Chrome doesn't have a dedicated bookmark icon like Safari.

The stock browser also has no bookmarks icon. You need to tap 'Menu' then 'Bookmarks' just like Chrome. Puzzling.

Also the Chrome browser does not have a '.com' button on the keyboard. The stock browser on the One X (and Safari of course) do.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any Android browser that does have a bookmark icon? Dolphin perhaps? Opera? Perhaps Chrome will adopt this feature down the road.

Anyways, that serious gripe aside, I didn't walk away making a decision. I was banking on using Chrome if I jump ship, but this bookmarks issue really bothers me. I think I'm still going to wait till after WWDC to make a decision.

I meant the GS3 not the One-x, I.E. for the Galaxy S2 you had different variations of different sizes and processors, the i777 had the Exyno's so no LTE but was so smooth and fast and 1st Android device I've used that had the smoothness and speed of iOS if not better. I've heard the GS3 will have the new quad Exyno's chip which is supposed to be incredibly powerful and efficient, however looks like the US will be getting the newer S4 Snapdragon b/c of LTE. So I wonder if we'll get variations like before, like AT&T will offer one with the Exyno's Quad for those that don't want LTE and S4 for those that do. Though I just read something odd stating that Verizon may have the exclusive to the GSIII initially, but all rumors right now.

I don't think it's battery tech helping, moreso the batteries are much larger in capacity than before to avoid the drain issue. iPhone has a small battery compared to others which some are over double the capacity. I think in the next year newer chipsets and larger batteries will make for some nice long battery life on LTE.

Bookmarks on Dolphin you can access by clicking the icon button which brings up bookmarks and other options. Or you can swipe to the left and all your bookmarks and folders etc are right there which is pretty damn cool and I love, swipe to the right and you get tab history and other options too.

Chrome is still beta and will continue getting updates and features, it still w/o a doubt kicks ass and easily best mobile browser. Google Nav has been around for years and is still "beta" always getting nice little updates and features here and there :D

Someone at XDA told me about Dolphin's feature. That sounds awesome and perfect for me. I hope Chrome Android gets something along the lines of what I'm saying. I just think it makes a lot more sense and I'm shocked it isn't there already.

The AT&T review embargo has been lifted. I've read 4 reviews so far. (CNET, Engadget, The Verge, Anandtech.) All are heaping the praise heavy. Battery life appears to be rock solid. Wow.

The Anandtech one, as usual, is the most technical, but worth your time.

Seems like the dual-core US version is better than the quad-core International version.

Guess no one signed a cell phone contract in 2008 or 2009 when unlimited was all you can get?

I've had my number since 1999 on the same contract with AT&T, but thanks for asking :) Not everyone has maintained their same carrier and data plans for the last 5 years. I left at one point for Sprint and came back. I was an unlimited data subscriber for my 1st Gen iPhone, 3G and 3GS, then left and came back for the 4 and 4S.

I wonder if the HTC One X will still be 'the best android phone on the market" after Samsung announces the GS3 a couple days before it drops. I played with one in the AT&T store today and damn the screen is amazing. Gonna wait for the GS3 before I pull the trigger.

Historically, how has HTC Compared to Samsung as far as reception? I had HTC phones when they had lots of window mobiles phones, wonder if they are just as good as then.

I promise you that if this thread stays alive, you will have a lot of iPhone users coming on here and proclaiming how amazing the One X screen is. It really is that great. Much better than the retina display. (If you can handle the size.)

Thanks for the review. I hope you won't base a phone purchase on weather or not Chrome has a dedicated bookmark button...

I won't. I want to see what WWDC has in store. I also might wait until the next iPhone is released.

There are ways to get around the lack of a dedicated bookmark button. Someone at XDA mentioned using a widget. Then there are always browsers like Dolphin that have bookmark buttons, etc. I would however just prefer to use Chrome if it had a bookmark button.

Anyways, we'll see what happens. I'm not ready to make a decision just yet.

This is totally true. I want to be able to read on my phone using the kindle app, but the galaxy note and nexus weren't as clear as the iPhone when it came to text. When I went down to the AT&T store yesterday and put the two devices side by side, the HTC was able to maintain the same level of clarity as the iPhone but on a much larger screen. I cant wait to try one out.

Are you getting one or just going back to mess around with it more?

I've actually said on here in the past that an iPhone with a 4.3"-4.5" retina display would be perfect. The One X is essentially that, but a touch bigger than ideal size IMO, with 3 capacitive buttons, and Android of course.

I'm buying one. I hate the screen on the iPhone. It is so small. I read tons of emails, assignments, journals, articles, etc on my devices but it's almost unbearable on the iPhone. If the galaxy note had a higher PPI screen I would have kept it. Plus something about samsung screens and the way the colors are displayed hurts my eyes. I also feel that the iPhone is the most uncomfortable device to hold for me. I'm tired of having to use a device designed for Asian people hands. What about us with larger hands? I could easily operate the Galaxy Note with one hand to give you an idea.

I agree with you, if the iPhone 5 isn't 4.5 inches, I'm sticking with android. I'm tired of the 3.5" BS.

I can't bring myself to buy another android phone without a removable battery, minus the razr maxx.

The iPhone can get me through a long weekend only cause its so popular and there are plugs everywhere. This passed weekend I was at a bachelor party and I couldn't bring a camera phone into a certain club, they would secure any phone but if you had an iPhone they'd charge it too!

Anyway like the iPhone my og razr would last all weekend but I couldn't actually use it to make sure of that. I'm sure I'd have the same issue with the one x.

This post poses more questions then answers. Are you talking about a strip club or something along those lines? Shady dude.

As long as the One X can last me though a normal day I'm fine. I charge my iPhone every night when I go to bed. On weekends when I'm out very late at times, I charge it before going out. The battery on the AT&T model appears to be just fine.

One of the great things about Android is if you feel that your phone no longer competes with the competition over clocking is usually an option. The tegra 2 in theory beats all those benchmarks when over clocked to 1.5ghz and some can reliably handle 1.7ghz.

That's if you are really into benchmarks and such....

I am going to look at one today. My IP4 is just starting to go. I want to wait for the 5 but not sure my phone will last that long and by the time my contract would be up I could get the IP6 ;-)

My major concern is not the OS its the 16gb storage. I store a lot of photos and video as well as music.. Can anyone that has one speak to this?

I honestly don't think it takes a person who has this device to tell you that if you are having issues with 16GB of storage on your iPhone (mostly from pics and music) you are going to run into the same issues on this device as well. A lot of these companies seem to be pushing cloud services.

Yah good point... Just dont get why they would get rid of the external cards as an option. I dont want my naked pics on the cloud :paranoid:

Space (physical) issues I would suspect. People seem to be drawn to thin, thin, thin. To do that with today's tech, something has to give. I am unclear on why they chose not to give us different BASE storage options, like Apple does. If I had to guess, it's just too huge a risk release so many models at once. I know something like 50%+ of iPhones are the 16GB (read: base) model. It may not have made financial sense to release the ONE X in multiple versions. Still, it's a bit wild to think that a major selling point of this phone is simultaneous picture and video taking on a piddly 10GB of storage (when all is said and done).
