I just ordered a M9 to replace that Note 4 I bought. Long story short, $380 refurb for AT&T w/ warranty unlocked to use n T-Mobile. HTC has the best oem skin out there imo because it's minimalistic and efficient. LG and Samsung have too many useless features that resource hog. Sony's icons aren't the greatest in the world.
HTC had a horrible quarter, where last year they made a profit this past quarter they lost $$. People are just not buying the M9. HTC is on borrowed time, they still have time to turn things around but if they don't they'll be looking more and more like a take over candidate.
My thoughts too. They should have let ASUS buy them when they made the overtures to but HTC. Now ASUS or another company will pay less money for HTC the more they slide into the sales cellar.
If their stock prices keep sinking, and their loses continue to mount, they may very well be bought by Asus, like it or not.

Sad state for HTC but color me completely unsurprised.
At least there is LG and Motorola to continue challenging Samsung in the android world. Plus the upcoming bit players from China like one plus and ZTE. Sony too to some degree.
If HTC won't or can't compete thankfully others will.

HTC is such a "dump" company, they now annoy their last fans with bs like this.
I agree. I love their designs but I stopped using the M9 some months ago. Now I have returned to my iPhone and I don't think I am going back to HTC this year.
Yes, but I had severe issues with charging the device. After the 1.40 update charging would properly work only after a reboot! HTC never really acknowledged the issue, despite the fact that it affected a lot of users. We had to wait two months for the fix! This would never happen with Apple.
I love HTC and its design, but I must be able to rely on my phone for some basic stuff. This was not possible with the M9 anymore..I am really sorry and disappointed.

The M9 was a really nice device but I did find HTC maybe had lost track of what made Sense 5/6 so good with Sense 7. In many ways by adding more and more features they lost the focus that rebuilding Sense from scratch in Sense 5 achieved. The fatal flaw for me though was dropped calls. Almost half of my calls were dropped whilst using it which sadly at the end of the day these devices are 'phones'. It's the one thing that has to be reliable. I don't think I'd be rushing back to buy another HTC soon and therein lies there problem. If people who have bought the likes of M7 M8 & M9 are no longer really interested ... Where do they go from here?

As i've said previously - I'm in a rural area of Ireland and there are a number of cellular black-spots in the area and cellular reception fluctuates even though we recently got 4G / LTE in the area - you can frequently find your device fluctuating between LTE/3G/2G.
Whilst other devices I've had have also suffered from dropped calls at certain times - it inevitably happens here - especially on my daily routine of travelling to the nearby beach 3 times a day. Other devices might drop a call once every day or two, even when passing through the black-spots whilst reception will phase out and I won't hear the other person, usually it will manage to stay connected and after I've gone through the area a few seconds later we will be able to continue talking.
The M9 unfortunately just couldn't seemingly jump between networks as easily or reliably and when doing so would drop the call on me. Even in areas where it shouldn't be an issue - it often was and it was irksome having to constantly apologise to people - even when it started to become a running joke with the other caller.
I'm sure if you lived in a town / city - an area where there was a stable cellular reception generally it wouldn't be an issue - but for me it became too much of an inconvenience (especially when I had to ring back people on different network and use up my minutes / incur charges).

Not yet, but I am looking for some dark red themes. Reception is decent, but my signal is crap at home, so I don't have I wifi calling to back me up like my 6+. So far it's good outside of having to update my phone through the PC since it's an AT&T device that had been unlocked through a code.
Out of interest also regarding the messaging app (I ask because this was the first android device / stock messaging that did this for me) did it give you some information when you first launched it saying that using a new protocol and your carrier your data plan will be used for MMS & Group Messaging rather than standard texting protocols / charges for picture messaging etc. Essentially its akin to the messaging apps like Snapchat / Facebook Messenger / WhatsApp but allowed you to do same with regular messaging app. I though that was really cool and something no other android device has done for me before or since ... I wondered if this feature is network specific ?
