Agree to disagree about it being the best looking phone. All curved edges are a hard pass from me..hate the look, feel and display distortion. Otherwise, it’s the iPhone X and XS models front design with a small chin.

The Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X both have better front designs, if that’s all one is concerned about. The OnePlus 6T will also be nicer, IMO.

I didn't notice the curved edges. Yes. The Oppo, Nex and 6T are superbly clean too.

No doubt a powerhouse, strong power charging is a plus. They are shooting for #2 spot beating out Apple in sale volume.
The wireless charge other phone is a luxury feature, consider you have only one phone in your possession. If you have the mean buy it, otherwise Oneplus 6T is as good in my opinion.

I want to get the Mate 20 Pro for my husband for his birthday or Christmas since he liked the P20 Pro so much.

Unfortunately, I’m in the USA. Well...I’m not unfortunate to be in a country with great donuts and barbecue, but...no Huawei Mate 20 Pros for preorder anywhere that I could see. Where can we US residents get one? Are they now totally banned so even Amazon isn’t an option?

Yeah curves. Yuck. Not my cup of tea. That ruins an otherwise eminently feature rich (camera-wise) phone. I’ll be glad when this fad dies away someday.

@GrumpyMom Wonda Mobile will have them in stock soon enough and ship worldwide.

I keep seeing the Mate 20 X advertised as being released on the 26th but Nintendo found anywhere selling them yet. I find it a little strange they’ve got 2 different types of notch on the 3 models.

Thanks! Yeah they decided to really cut a lot of corners for the regular Mate 20. It looks like the Mate 20 Pro has a Face ID system similar to Apple’s and so it needs the wider notch.

If I were buying this for myself I’d have to get the regular Mate 20 because it has an LCD display—and bonus...it’s a bit flatter. I am OLED-shy after what happened to me with my Max’s display. Just viewing the Android Central video I could see the flicker on that display. It’s a shame because I like the Mate 20 Pro’s specs and especially its camera specs. Oh well if I am able to get this for my husband at least he will be able to take great pictures and then I would finally get to be in some of them! All these years of me being the family photographer meant I was missing out of most family pictures and it looked like I never even existed.

I’ve seen firsthand how incredible the Huawei cameras can be in challenging lighting situations. The Pro is going to be awesome!

I’m happy that the iPhone Xr camera I’ll be getting will finally be “good enough” for most of the kinds of pictures I take. But Huawei is really taking it to a level I hope Apple will attain next year for its entire product line.

Apple is close, but they need to fine tune how they handle noise so it looks less smeary. And they sure could use a super wide angle lens. Or at least I want one! But I don’t think I’ll be able to get one on the models my eyes can tolerate. :( Excuse me...must go get some cheese to go with my whine. :p

NeverMSRP is a very highly rated importer on eBay. I'm sure this store will have them at some point. I ordered a P20 from here and it was brand new, still shrink wrapped. Quick shipping too. I know eBay is very YMMV but at least when it comes to feedback, it's hard to argue with 99.1% positive ratings on such a high volume store.

So cool how you can make use of that huge battery by wirelessly charging other devices...@5:00...

Cool tech? Yes. Useful feature on a smartphone? No. What other devices are you carrying have wireless charging capabilities AND you’d prefer to have a charge over your smartphone?

I was thinking the Airpods case (if it ever gets released).

Though, I'm also thinking how handy it would be if your tablet could do this - on the go with your phone/watch/Bluetooth earbuds, you could make use of the largest battery of all your devices & utilise it like a wireless charge mat.

the only use cases I could see is if you have airpods (like Huawei's version or if apple ever releases a wireless charging case for theirs) or a Qi enabled smartwatch... if either are low on juice while your out and about, just put on the phone to charge for 30 min while your working or at a coffee shop or something. Otherwise, seems to be reserved as nothing more than a party trick.

On wireless charging other device, they must have borrowed the idea of one car charging another dead car, what an engineering marvel.

Here's my Mate 20 Pro
So far thoroughly living it. Got to play with the device last Friday but was not allowed to disclose details about it, now I have the device for myself :D

I am still busy setting it up, but so far it's amazing, so well sized and pocketable.

What else would it be used for? Charging another phone!!! Very useful feature.

Edit: another one of those "cures for cancer" features if Apple had done it.

Edit 2: or helping a friend whose phone was about to die.

I just don't see charging another's phone useful but maybe in some scenarios, sure. It just seems like it'd be really slow, even slower than normal wireless charging. I have no qualm with the technology or them including it. Not sure why the hyperbole directed at me about Apple. I couldn't care less if Apple had something like this.

you could charge the iphone faster with the mate 20 pro than you could with the charger apple provided :D

would you recommend this for first time Android user? I'm looking to jump from my Iphone 6.

I am still putting the phone through its paces, but one thing I always like with Huawei is that despite their heavy skin the phone's transitions are super fast and so there are no BS effects, the phone simply opens what it opens, no trickery, it's refreshing.

I am loving the Gesture driven UI, although it does take some getting used to, but it is so fast and fluid that once you get to grips with it it is very simple to use, especially being able to swipe out of an app, as I often do this when using Maps and playing Music, it feels more natural to swipe out than to press a certain key, Palm understood this YEAR'S ago, glad Google and Apple are waking up now.

Will give more of my thoughts as I go.

The Display is fantastic, and build quality is impeccable, AND once again you get a transparent gel case in the box, so you can protect your Mate 20 from day 1 right off the batt.

BTW battery and heat shielding also seem promising, phone didn't get too warm while setting up and downloading and transferring games and other data, nor did the battery drain much.

No idea how they fit a huge 4200mAh battery in here!

I would indeed. It has the best Android hardware (7nm chip, huge battery and best camera) as well as the latest Android version out the box.

Huawei have somehow managed to get ahead of Samsung in some areas that Samsung once dominated.

If you want a great all-round device, this it if you don't mind a skinned Android experience.

Sorry. Comment about Apple was just a general remark. But why would helping a friend not be useful?

My husband enjoys the version of EMUI that’s on the P20 Pro. It took him a couple of weeks to get settled in but once he did he seemed to enjoy using it as his main phone. Him being off of iMessage when most of the rest of the family he texts most often are on iMessage was a pain point. And he likes his Apple Watch Series 4 too much to give up.

Still, if I can get my hands on this for him, he’s going to absolutely have a blast with it as a second phone.

I’ll have a slight envy, but he got really good at including me on testing the P20 Pro camera so that I will have fun, too.

However, I have no idea what EMUI is like myself. That’s something you actually need to use the phone daily to judge.
