What’s their most premium line, is it the Mate or the P?

I like the regular Mate 20 a lot. I’m glad MKBHD mentioned it. When I go to look for reviews most reviewers gloss over it to drool over the Pro version. Not that I blame them!

Huawei sure is bringing their A game to these phones. I think Apple needs to keep an eye on them. :D

Huawei have setup their line much like Samsung have.

- Pseries is the Galaxy S equivalent.
- Mate series is the Galaxy Note equivalent.

HOWEVER, unlike Samsung, the Mate series sets the precedent for the following year, so the Mate series will always be the main Premium offering. The Mate series is the one that brings the SoC that will be used in the next Pseries. E.g. The Mate 10 brought the Kirin970 last year and then the P20 used the 970 to. This year the Mate 20 brought the Kirin980 so the P30 will use the Kirin980 to when it arrives next year.

The great thing here is that due to their lack of dependence on Qualcomm, Huawei can have the latest SoC tech before Samsung and other Android OEMs as soon as they want, hence the Mate 20 Pro managed to bring the Kirin980 which is the first 7nm SoC in Android before Samsung and Qualcomm could bring their 7nm chips. If Samsung didn't have to wait for Qualcomm, they'd be just as fast.

Kirin processor makes uncle Sam and apple nerves. It is what caused huawei to be of US. Label as spying tool and keep the competition out.

Yep yep. The fact that Huawei not only make their own SoC advanced AI, but also Networking equipment I'm sure drove them nuts.

I'm pretty sure the same thing would have happened to Samsung if they didn't use Snapdragon chips and modems in their devices. No idea how they got around all that in 2015 with the S6 and Note5.

I just hope that with 4200/5000 batteries, Huawei won't use aggressive memory management again, like they did with last Mate generation. That's the sole reason I sold that otherwise excellent device.

Looking forward to reviews, but already know I'm gonna skip the Pro just because of 'edge' screen. I have Note 9, and that is my (by far!) biggest complain about the device. It's like touch bar on MBP, cool to see, but totally gimmicky and useless, and takes away a lot of basic functionality.

So it's either the regular 20, or X version. But I have to test them out in person for at least a day, afraid of aggressive memory management. But all things considering, this is by FAR the best device announced in 2018. iPhone Xs and Xs Max look like a joke compared to these babies, and Google Pixel 3 (XL) isn't even a joke, it's just a sad little dude who sits alone, and no one wants to play with him :p

I never had any problems with ram management on my p20 pro. But one thing that bothered me was the very aggressive doze management they used to save battery and could cause delayed notifications or they wouldn't pop-up until i woke up the screen.

Well I did not expect this, however I do think the phone has settled in with my apps and usage.

Used it in Performance Mode between yesterday and today, the end result in terms of Battery life:

8hours53mins Screen On Time with over 20hours off charge

Looks like the mate 20 pro does pretty good in this speed test VS the note. It seems like the note screen is bigger due to its wideness. Also it's displaying more info on the screen since he hid the nab bar on the note. Do you have a side by side comparison of info displayed on screen when you hide the nav bar on the mate 20?

.

Cool, I will do when I am home. So something so take note of, the Mate 20 Pro also has a Gesture interface, you can remove the nav bar permanently, and just use Gestures, unlike the Pixel 3 Gestures the Mate 20 Pro took its Gestures from iOS, they work almost exactly the same as the iPhone X S Max ones.

This speed test was incredible, Huawei are absolutely killing it with their Kirin chips. I have been thoroughly impressed at how solid the Performance and Battery Life have been on this device.

Something that doesn't get covered often enough by reviewers is RF performance, although they are touching on it due to iPhone X S issues now. Huawei devices have by far the best RF in terms of 4G LTE, WiFi as well as incredibly accurate GPS. I have now had the Mate 10 Pro, Mate 20 Lite and Mate 20 Pro now and each time I am blown away by how good they are in this area especially.

So here we to answer your question, I compared my Note8 to the Mate 20 Pro, and the Mate 20 Pro actually fits more in its Display versus the Note

Looks like the mate 20 pro couldn't beat the iPhone with a 7nm chip. While the test technically isn't fair as the iPhone doesn't have a 2k screen, the mate 20 does have the much bigger battery. Pretty disappointing results.

The screen looks inferior on the Xs Max with unevenness where the top looks dimmer with a pinkish tint. Colors also look flatter. Thought I was looking at Xr LCD at first. Note 9 is the winner with the best display with no notch and considering everything else as a package.
