@wonderings, at Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the tunneling electron microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe.
@wonderings, if I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn't be able to locate any factual evidence for what you assume. But thank you for trying to contribute.
I think it is a fairly safe assumption, but if you only discuss things that have definitive facts behind them a Mac rumour site might not be the place for you.

Apple has health monitoring from the watch, tracking through tags and phones, their own browser, music store and what you listen to, etc etc. I think you would be naive if you think Apple did not harness the info they have to increase the size of their bank account.

It’s painful to watch Apple lose touch and become a profit-obsessed monopoly just like the rest of Big Tech. What happened to the magic?
Steve Jobs wasn't doing it just out of the goodness of his heart. That dude liked money.

Monopoly doesn't mean "really big company", it means: "The exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service."

A company can have a monopoly, a company cannot be a monopoly.

Apple doesn't have a monopoly on anything - it isn't even the biggest player in almost any market it's in.

Apple has always been about one thing - making nicer computers than the rest of the industry, for higher prices.

As the M-series computers are proving, they're better at that core mission than they've ever been.

OP - time to go for a walk, or a nap, or get a snack or something.

What a joy you must be to be around
Let’s be honest, the only reason this forum thrives is because of me, not everyone can be as good as me so everyone in comparison will be bitter. I also suggest you get a snack too , perhaps a pot noodle

I feel the same. I got a PC last year as a second computer because I wanted to use some programs that are PC only. I noticed only then how hard Apple is with its Eco system. Thunderbolt license, Airdrop, no Export from Apple notes, so much more. It’s really hard to escape or use something else. And now that people are deep into it they can start selling ads.

Airdrop... just use something like Dropbox.
There are exporters for Apple Notes. Or, you can just access all your notes, documents, photos, etc. by logging onto iCloud website.
Keychain passwords are available on Windows now.

Obviously there will be more bumps in the road if you choose to segregate your experience across a range of platforms owned by different companies. You'll always be happier if you go all in with Apple, and I think that's a good thing.

Apple set out to sell Apple I's and put food on the table of Jobs and Wozniak. Two of those 3 goals are no longer relevant.

It was never meant to destroy anything, it was meant to create stuff for profit. Woz apparently wanted to give the Apple I schematics away to the Homebrew computer club, and then tried to give them to HP. Jobs wanted to make money from them. So here we are.

Everything is horrible these days. Windows? 7 was the last amazing Windows. 10 and now 11 have very very very VERY MAJOR issues. Adobe? Perpetual CS4 and CS5 were the best. CS6 and Creative Cloud is what started the downfall for Adobe for me. I hate hate HATE their software now. And I purchased the upgrades EVERY YEAR previously. I use Affinity as much as possible now. Gaming? Downhill for years, rushed to market and patched later attitude. macOS while has went downhill a bit is still a much better experience for me than Windows has been lately. OMG my 10700k and 3080 Ti 128GB of RAM Windows PC has some major issues at times its so frustrating.

Seriously, I used to read/watch/listen and do anything tech related for YEARS. I have been losing interest for a long time because every new thing is more frustrating that what it replaces now.

It was for sure magic in Steve's days. He was special. But he wanted to build and evolve the company as well. That takes money.
Everything have evolved and changed, since back then, for sure.
It was amazing to be part of the evolution at Steve's time, magical. But that doesn't mean the products were better back then.
Apple products are still magic in the sense how WE can use them. It just depends more on what WE do and create, than what Apple deliver to us regarding 'the magic'.
Exponentially prices have raised, but so have the whole computer/phones/tech business as well.
Nothing out of the ordinary there either.

From a personal perspective Apple is looking for an profitable outcome but what they are really doing is playing a strategic role especially in todays tech market. If you see the tech out there you will find that the market is flooded with all kinds of technology. What Apple did with Silicon and ARM proved that they are still one of the leads in technology, before you realize to find that Apple is remnant of its old school brought up ways. 😉

That magic was just marketing, the infamous reality distortion field.
Having said that, I do agree that there are increasingly less and less effort to make the "best product." Instead, corners being cut even on their premium products just to net in more profits or cut cost (eg. SSD fiasco on M2 MBA and MBP).

While Apple is out to maximize profits as is every public company,
They are providing a superior product which has multiple capabilities.

I had the pleasure of talking with one of Apple’s lawyers today. We spoke about how Apple is being criticised and has faced requests to break up the App Store and change the fundamental ways it works.

Apple started small. It’s aim was to put amazing computing devices into the hands of as many people as possible.

It built a platform, software and hardware to do just that.

Once that combination of hardware, software and platform services became the thing they pushed for, is when the general populace started to question it. Started to ask for it to change. Started to think it had a say in the way it works.

If being successful, and finally succeeding in your decades-long mission means you will end up facing lawsuits and class actions to change the very thing you spent decades creating, then it begs the question: why bother at all?

Seriously, this shill needs to end. Really. It does. Apple makes incredible products that push boundaries in many areas. Our lives are enriched by them daily. While I may have drunk the cool aid, I can safely say it tastes damn good.

Those who don’t know or question what the OP is saying doesn’t know about or recall the below. And i agree… Apple has seemingly become what it originally implied it was set out to destroy.

Think Different. People.

Yeah, actually I did know about the advertisement before I disagreed with OP.

The advertisement was an effective little bit of melodrama that sold a lot of computers. It never constituted Apple's actual business plan.

Best to remove your emotions when thinking about any corporation. Apple has never had the consumer first and foremost in their mind. They have always been in it to make money and Apple now makes the most and harvests the most data. I am assuming they have more data on users then anyone else, google and facebook. Apple has all your health stats now, they will be getting your ID's for those who will move their ID digital, they have your spending, browsing, messaging, location and your photos and videos. Apple owns a massive amount of data and like any other corporation they use it to make more money.
I highly doubt that given that Google and Facebook have many more users than Apple. How many Android phones in the world vs. iPhones again?
