Not true in my case.

And I'm not accepting a refurb when I paid for a brand new phone.

Your current iPhone was used and therein inferior to a refurbished iPhone; having failed entirely it's not even close to the quality of a refurbished model. I've owned several refurbished 3G iPhones and must say they were better than my original.

Furthermore, the longer you whine about the process the more you're consuming those five days you could have a replacement. Additionally, you will get a replacement at a Genius Bar if you make the drive.

I talked with a friend who is an attorney. He'll take your case! He says it will cost you about $2,000 but he guarantees he'll get your $14.99 back! If he loses the case, he'll buy you a new screen protector! :)

My six week old 3GS has suddenly died. Dead. Nothing. Apple phone support admit it's kaput and that I need a new one. But it's not that simple.

They want me to send it back to them and wait five working days for my replacement - meaning I'm without a phone for five days more than I think necessary. They refuse to send the replacement FIRST even though I've offered my card number as a guarantee. I suggested going to a store instead (even though my nearest is about 100miles away) but they said I can't do that because the replacement is a 'special replacement one' that has no box. Sounds like a refurb to me, even though the support guy denied it.

Furthermore, when I bought the 3GS (in an Apple Store), the attendent recommended I have a matte film for the front - I agreed and he put it on, charging me £14.99. When I asked if the replacement will come with a replacement film (as it shows on my receipt), the guy said no and that Apple don't recommend using protective films and that they wouldn't supply one or refund my £14.99.

I'm livid. This all just sounds wrong to me - they're just not interested in keeping me happy. And let's keep perspective - I spent hundreds of pounds on an iPhone just SIX WEEKS AGO.

Rubbish.

Go buy a $10 AT&T phone off eBay and put your Sim card in that while you wait for your iPHone to get fixed.

...more like 3 hours, 9 minutes, 32 seconds, and $50 worth of gas.

Either half the people in this thread can't read or they have the attention span of a goldfish. The OP said he lives 100 miles away from an Apple store.

can u not do 5th grade math? 90 miles at about 60 miles per hour is... u guessed it, 90 minutes.

You live in the UK and have to drive 100 miles. So where do you live then??? Sorry I know the UK I was born there- it is a densley populated country and find it difficult to believe your nearest store is 100 miles away.

Land's End in Cornwall is 120 miles from the Apple Store in Exeter, 2h 21m according to Google Maps.

But John O'Groats to the Apple Store in Glasgow is 286 miles, 5h 54m.

Aberdeen is 145 miles away from the nearest store, and Newcastle upon Tyne is about the same.

Not to state the bleedin' obvious, but it's only 90 minutes if he never returns home again.....

But you knew that, didn't you?

The few times I dealt with app or even at&t I had a great experience. I got a protective cover for my iPhone also and 3 came in the package so where's the other 2? I ordered a case on Apple.com and it was bad, so the sent me a new case and I used the same box the new case came in to send the old case. When the got the old case they took the hold off of it.
Now I would like to know how the OP acted when calling Apple. I've learned just always be nice and respectful, because you get a lot more with that.
I also been threatened with lawyers from people at work, guess what I don't care and does NOTHING at all. I gotten to a point I just tell people to get in line.

ya. I did. the OP said it's about 100 miles away, meaning one way. so I'm going to give the time the ONE WAY trip will take

Either way, let's look at the bigger picture: the OP can either spend 3 hours (for the two-way trip) to get his replacement iPhone, or he can do without for 5 days while he he ships his phone to Apple and Apple ships a replacement back.

3 hours.... 5 days.... hmmmmm... decisions, decisions....

true. he needs to use some common sense. he can whine about not having his phone for 5 days while its sent to apple or he can do nothing and not have a phone forever. either way, he's gonna need to grow up

...like contacting a lawyer would do anything. paying thousands of pounds for a 15 pound screen protector. rediculous

Be more specific man, it's been over $3 here in So Cali for months. $3.15 at the local station down the street right now.

I'm assuming $3.15 Gets you a gallon of fuel? Correct?:)

In the UK, with the recent 2p rise in fuel prices, it currently stands at £1.03 ($1.68) for diesel :) Per litre!:(

I'll leave you to do the Maths.:D
