I have seen how hot those i7 processors get on the new iMacs, you could burn your hand by touching the upper left corner of the unit, easily. There is no way Apple could put an i7 in one of these puppies, probably much less an i3. But we may them later down the line as they are modified to run cooler at lower temperatures, it will just take time.

i7 doesn't refer to the power consumption, it refers to the performance (per watt). There are 18W i7s (ULV) and those would fit fine in MBA. 25W parts (LV) should fit fine in 13" as long as there would be no discrete GPU.

The i7s in iMac actually run cooler than the old C2Ds in 24" iMacs. Aluminum dissipates a lot heat and thus it may feel hot even though the innards are cool.
