So this man and his teammates are peasants for having their iPhone's covered with something?

You run with your iPhone 14 Pro Max in your hand, or…?
I see runners with their phablets in hand every day.

How they don't go insane is a mystery to me.

-Multi-tasking isn't actually a thing so you'll either be unable to focus on your running or music, or be too distracted by your running and holding your Pro Max to be aware of your surroundings and whatever surface you're running on.

Sweaty, wet hands will make you drop a smartphone with even the grippiest cover.

If you can afford a phablet then you can afford an Apple Watch SE at the very least. Or get some old TouchID iPhone that you can use when running, one that fits in an armband or in a pocket.

Just don't go running or workouts with your smartphone in your hand, please!

Based on that i should be homeless, coz except case im also using crack’d screen protector… 😆

in my experience, if a person buys an phone outright $1,000+ (their money) they are less likely to drop their phone. I’ve seen countless people either gifted a phone or on a $20 payment plan drop their phone daily. They didn’t shell out the money so why should they care if they drop it. I gave a iPhone 2g in pristine condition to a woman friend around 2015, it was destroyed a few months later. and to this day i still tell her that mint phone was worth easily 5k today. I buy my phone outright, i only recently started the case and screen protector trend because youtube showed me the Iphone 11 had a soft screen. every phone prior was caseless and never dropped.

It‘s exactly this. I have Apple Care+/ Insurance on most of my devices but it‘s the hassle of them being out of service, having to book a repair etc that stops me taking risks.

Exactly this. Plus I don’t find iPhones particularly easy to use out of a case as they are slippery and cold. I saw a lad drop his purple iPhone 14 Pro in London a couple of months ago while he was sat on a curb spinning it between his fingers. The iPhone literally dropped about 200mm into a cobbled street and the entire back glass was shattered. Such a tiny drop yet hundreds of pounds worth of damage. I can’t see the benefit of not using a case in all honesty and it’s not like there aren’t hundreds of millions of people using these phones to make them some kind of stand out design masterpiece.

I’ve got 14 PM with me only for call. That’s because I’m waiting activation of my LTE plan for AW, planning to go to run only with AW in the future.

Wow, I woke up this morning and logged on here to find out I'm rich! What a great way to start the day...I'll be checking my bank account throughout the day for the corresponding influx of cash.

Seriously, people go caseless for a variety of reasons. The whole premise is ridiculous, as others have said.

I disagree. I buy my iPhones with my own money, paying upfront & do value my purchases. However, as I explained in my previous post, my lifestyle can be quite dynamic and I have other beings around me I cannot and do not want to control at all times.

Modern iPhones are also very “slippery”, so can easily fall out of your pocket when you bend, etc.

I have dropped my iPhone three times within two years, all those drops were from a hip height and always screen down. Two on stone floor tiles (which are hard) and one in the garage, on an asphalt. The garage fall visibly damaged the case corner in the upper part of the screen, yet the screen remained untouched, so I just swapped the case and called it a day.

I could have paid for AppleCare+, etc., but a cracked screen would involve a much bigger hassle of having to erase your iPhone, restore it to a replacement phone and then doing it all over again once repaired.

There are so many elegant & functional cases out there, ranging from cork (15:21) to aramid fiber (Pitaka) that for me it just adds a bit of fun & colour to our iPhones.

I have a Mini, fits perfectly in my hand.
Never dropped a phone outdoors, but it have happened at home, but I have mostly wooden floor so no problems.
No cases ever to phones, I know I’m wealthy beyond sanity 😉

I havent slapped a case on my iPhone since 2007. It just feels nicer and less bulky. Also I get to see the damn color/design I paid for. But in general I've always been extremely careful with my expensive electronics because of the fact that its not so easily replaceable lol The ones that have too much money are the ones tossing their phones and laptops around like its not worth anything.

Even if I were billionaire I would still use a case, because it would be really annoyng to buy a new iPhone, import the backup, manually set up things like credit cards and Face ID every few months.

I’ve no-cased it for years because I just don’t like the feel of cases. I like as small of a phone as possible and cases add too much bulk. I also enjoy the feel of the naked phone.

I’ve had ONE cracked phone, but it took about 4 years for that phone to finally get cracked, for what it’s worth.

If you aren’t reckless, you can avoid 90%+ of accidents. People just don’t care of their phones. Those are the people that need cases:

Admittedly, I’m changing a little bit. I use bulky cases when overlanding and hiking now. I also am currently rocking a SUPER thin “case” to avoid scratches. To that end, if you hate cases like me but want SOMETHING, here’s what I’m using. This same brand makes them for the flagship iPhones as well. Sometimes they’re on sale for $20.

I also rock the totalee on my 14PM. Thinnest and lightest case I've ever had.

A billionaire just holds up their hand and poof! New phone all set up. May even be a new model or different colour, who can tell, who cares.

People spend a lot of time thinking about what other people’s choices signal…
When I got my first brand new iPhone in 2012 I started to frequent the iPhone subforum (this subforum) here on MR. At that time, people were doing the same thing you just said.

Only it was about having an iPhone instead of an Android. And if you weren't completely in the tank for Apple then, you were an apostate. No criticism of Apple was allowed in any way.

This subforum has changed over the years, to the point that this 'stealth wealth' topic is an actual discussion instead of being a confirmation of our bias.

But…

Don't be surprised if it does become divisive at some point. Whether wealth is involved or not, there are still very strong opinions by the users here on using cases or not. Wealth, like any other justification to support our opinions one way or the other is just another justification. And Apple makes no secret of pursuing the wealthy as customers.

I think the people using their phones without a case just happen to enjoy a particular lifestyle where their devices are not typically exposed to much danger (eg: no kids, office working environment), and they don't plan on reselling their phones.
As a non-case user, I would agree with you here - to a certain point. I've had office jobs since 1999. I don't get out much and I have designated spots for my phone/device depending on where I happen to be. Since 2020 I've also been working from home.

So, not much danger to my device.

My one objection is kids. I have two. Both are 19 and 14 now, but I had phones when they were kids. Both my kids were taught to respect other peoples property and they were never handed a device as a toddler to use as a 'toy'.

Kids can be taught. It's just some people are unwilling to invest the time and make the effort. So, having kids does not automatically mean your device/phone is in mortal danger without a case.

Would be nice if we could ask Laurene Powell-Jobs if she have a case on her iPhone? ☺️
I would also like to know how many iPhones, Apple devices she have around the world?
I'm sure her employees, that set up the devices for her, have to be very Apple savvy to get hired and payed of her too.

Well, my anecdotes come from friends who have had their phones flung around by their younger kids (under 6), so...😛

Another practical case advantage, as already mentioned, is being able to put your phone on any flat surface, without damaging the screen or camera bumps.
I put my non-cased phones down on flat surfaces too. So, this 'advantage' is not really an 'advantage. But you mean 'without damage'. That suggests to me that you make no consideration of the flat surface you are putting your device down on - because you are relying on the case to protect it.

And that's the difference here. I'm not relying on a case to protect my device. I rely on my judgement and don't place my caseless phone down on a surface that could potentially damage it. It requires a bit of thinking, which having a case tends to allow people to not have to do.

I pay my carrier over two years for my phone. Monthly payments.

I have to explain to my wife how it is I destroyed a ~$1000 phone and now we have to spend money we don't have to replace it. So, I'm not the person you name above that 'doesn't care' and drops their phone.

I don't use cases and all my phones are just fine. If I could afford to buy outright, I'd handle them the same way.

Not having a case on your phone is such a poor man’s idea of wealth. Nothing against using a phone caseless, I used to do it all the time, but there are factors beyond money that go into deciding to use a case.
Those factors (beyond money) are why my wife does use cases, even though I don't.

I am very curious - I didn't use a case with my 6S+ and 8+ for years, and while I didn't go out of my way to baby them, I wasn't rough with them either. Over time, they would get scuffs to the back, especially around the camera enclosure.

For those rocking an iPhone 12 or later without a case, how is that part of your phone holding up? Seems like in order to avoid any damage to that section, I would either have to always set it down on my wallet, or have some kind of soft surface / cushion to rest it on at all times.
