I really really want to jailbreak my iPhone 6 IOS 8.3 I had me iPhone 4 onwards jailbroken but left this device. But think it's time to free the apple.

I jist recently restored to 8.3 because my 6 jail broken on 8.1.2 was having repeated crashes and re springs and terrible battery life. I've been relieved to see that overall, it hasn't been a big deal.

That's what happens if you install a lot of hacks that are buggy or cause certain processes to continue to run or kill battery.
My jb 6 plus never crashes and battery is excellent.
It's not the jb fault, it's the junk you installed after.
Some people are better off staying stock if they don't research, debug or want to install every hack listed on cydia and then wonder why they have problems.

I am a tweak minimalist... and install only tools/utilities I need for modding, and some tweaks to enjoy my phone. No resprings or battery issues with me either. Even if JBing has been good to me, I never recommend it to my friends or to anyone. I remember my first time I JB... downloading a lot of unnecessary tweaks... LOL... but I never wondered why my phone ran like crap at the time.:)

My first experience with jailbreaking was a secondary phone, a 3GS running iOS 5 at the time.

Taught me a lot about restoring from backup, updating, DFU mode, safe mode and tweak conflicts. I learned why you don't just install everything you see - the hard way.

Being as this was not my main phone at the time I however was prepared for my iPhone 5 and iOS 6. I have only lost a jailbreak since 2013 twice and that was by my own hand deliberately. Once for a warranty replacement and once to test if my phone was unlocked.

Each time I had over 60+ tweaks/apps installed and my iPhone 5 was my main phone.

This is why I advise responsibility in jailbreaking (Apple won't vette any of this stuff for you) and doing your research (again, Apple won't hold your hand).

Same here.
I only install what I need and use the most and only from well proven devs.
I don't go installing everything that pops up on cydia.
I see people that list 60-70+ packages installed and then wonder why they have issues, conflicts, bugs, bad battery, springboard crashes etc...
And then good luck trying to isolate the culprit or conflicting packages.
I don't suggest people to JB either cause most of them don't want to do the research, leg work or understand everything that comes with it. Most of them don't even know why it would be beneficial and others think they will just get free apps by JB.

For me because I prefer Chrome over Safari and  don't allow you to choose your preferred browser so I wanted the Browser Changer Tweak.

So with incoming emails I can open them up straight to Chrome.

As for iOS updates I typically waited to check on bugs when I was stock anyway and too would be perfectly happy to revert to iOS 6 #

I agree with the iOS 8 and Fisher Price concept. #

Elite8 all the way for me for theming.

CC Settings allows me to disable Mobile Data which currently Apple don't allow on the current Control Centre.

Could I still be happy with a stock iPhone ? Yes but my own user experience wouldn't be as rich (in my opinion)

Well. My 60 or so tweaks/apps got reinstalled tonight following the list of the screenshots I took.

Except for a few crashes which were direct results of the recently installed tweak and one or two tweaks that advised not installing I pretty much once again have my tweaks.

Now just a matter of rearranging the furniture and decorating.

All of the tweaks I had installed before worked together so I didn't expect any real problems this time around. And it was cool that it was picking up my old settings.

60+ Tweaks that work together without clashing.

If you ever get the time I'd love to know which ones your using. #

The only thing that stops me from JBing is not having a jailbreak. That said when I did JB I was very selective and only installed items that functioned perfectly and that I really, really wanted. I didn't just install a 100 tweaks just so I could tell people. I probably had 10 tweaks installed overall. When I think about "Oh God I Really Miss that Tweak" the only thing that comes to mind is iFile and access to storage or having a place to save files if I wanted. I thought for sure apple would come out with a file manager and use iCloud but I guess not.

Most of what I install is either small tweaks or apps.

I have a few majors but I've vetted most of my stuff. If it crashes the phone I may try again, but if it crashes the phone a second time I uninstall it no matter how much I may want it.

Here's a list of what I had installed in iOS 7.1.2. Missing is Weatherboard and 3G Unrestrictor. I reinstalled maybe about 95% of these. Some have features that iOS 8 now has so were unnecessary and some aren't working (like Bite) in iOS 8.

I made these screenshots so I could go back and reinstall. If it doesn't add up to 60, well, my error. But it's a lot. Also, some of the tweaks are dependencies for the others.

P.S. My iPhone 6+ with the Lockscreen setup restored! Well, most of it anyway. Got to deal with getting back everythign I had in the status bar.

Just have to start working on the homescreens and cleaning up glitches (such as tracking down what's causing Control Center to crash Springboard).

I really wasn't running that many tweaks, and in fact, things were running with the same tweaks for several months. Something got messed up, though, and whether it was a tweak or some other thing, I didn't really have the time to spend troubleshooting for days.

I've been jail breaking since I had my 4S on iOS 5. I miss some things, and if an 8.3 Jb were to become available, I'd probably do it again, but I'd rather have a smooth experience without tweaks than have maintained my Jb at the expense of stability.

Of my tweaks, I really only miss a few.

I hate being a jailbreaker. I can never get iPhones on launch day, update iOS, use my Apple Warranty for parts replacement, nor can I restore my phone whenever something is wrong. When the next iOS is released, I can't use it until on my phone until a jailbreak is released in December.

I'm constantly tempted to switch over to android for the OS freedom but stick to the jailbroken phone I use. My tweaks have to be just right when I switch phones, and I get sad when a tweak isn't updated anymore (ex: biteSMS).

But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Who's with me?

edit: Mods, I meant to post this in the Jailbreak sub-forum....please move if appropriate.

It would have been useful had you actually mentioned precisely what you forgo that causes such heartbreak.

Rebel without a clue.

Is there even any point in jailbreaking these days? I haven't done it since like iOS 6.

I agree, I only jailbreak the ATV 2 now. Apple have implemented all the "relevant" things that forced us to Jailbreak the iPhone in the first place. BTW I dont find skins all that exciting, functionality is what its all about imho.

I own an iPhone and an iPad that are both Jailbroken.

I really don't have a lot of apps, from the Apple store or Cydia or any other place. I've never been real successful with any of the interface tweeks either, not that it matters that much to me.

This isn't a "jump on the band wagon post", but more of an alternate "why jail breaking is important to me" post.

by far, the #1 reason to jail break is to get to the Mac OS X command line.

from the Mac OS X command line on my iPad, I can:

* do shell scripting (python, tcsh, bash, etc)

* plug in a full sized USB keyboard with the Apple Lightning<->USB adapter (AKA Apple camera kit) and use my iPad as a mini-laptop to ssh or telnet to other Unix boxes, OS X boxes, (Cisco) routers and switches.

* create Unix style symlinks. By far the most important thing. Why? I primarily use my iPad as a music video player. I have about 50 Gb of music video's. I mostly use a video player called nPlayer, but I have about half a dozen video players. None are any where near perfect.

Why are symlinks important to me? I own an iPad Mini 2 with only 128 Gb of storage. I can upload all my video's to one location, then make Unix symlinks to all my apps, so they can share all my music video's. Without jail breaking, each video player would have to have its own data store.

Its always good to have root. I wouldn't want an iDevice where I didn't.

Server Auditor is a good free Ipad app for accessing SSH on your Macs/Jailbroken Devices. It doesnt need to be jailbroken to access the other devices. I use it to access my Jailbroken ATV2 and Mac Mini.

@eyoungren,

How is your battery life? Is it still good with al those tweaks?
Yes.

Oh, I will admit, probably not as good as stock, but it's only a handful of tweaks I am using that actually draw on battery and that's just because they use data periodically.

The majority of my tweaks are directed towards refining the GUI and how it functions.

Little things like the tweak that allows setting timers at one minute intervals don't really draw much on battery. That's generally, the kind of tweak I usually have installed.

slow and steady wins the race

i am proud to be a JB'er. though i'd like an 8.3 or 8.4 jb, happily chugging along on 8.1.1. and its allowed me to restrain myself from trying a watch out. though if i still had my iPhone 5 and didn't trade it up, i probably would have loaded 8.3 on it with 6+ still as the main beast.

in general, more paranoid about having to my swap my hardware than dealing with warranty, a quick restore resolves it. and by then, you'll be glad to have a functioning phone over a tricked out one. but thats it, i wouldn't sacrifice anything else.

i did for iPhone 5, the longest wait seemingly. and 6 as well, when I leapt to 6+ 8.1 JB was already out (got one in November after having the 6 from launch till then). and iPhone 4, but it was a one month wait, real quick and just in time for my abroad trip!

I miss my jailbreak so much.

Warranty replacement sufferer.
I hear you!

I was ready to do backflips when I realized my iPhone 6+ had come with 8.1.2. I hadn't even owned it an hour before it was jailbroken.

----------

I might also just mention that Netatalk still works on 8.1.2 on the 6+.

Connecting to my phone over wireless as if I was connecting to a server and mounting the iPhone's drive on my desktop is still way cool.

The numbers 8.1.2 excite me like no other, lol.
