Wow, what a skeptical bunch. I pride myself on my ability to smell BS, but for some reason, I didn't smell it on the OP. It's not such an extraordinary claim, IMO. If the thing's coming out in a couple of months, then it makes sense that Apple has some of them out for real world testing. How does it hold up in people's pockets? How does it perform after some real-world abuse?

It would seem extraordinary if Apple did do this sort of thing, so why couldn't this story be legit? I saw absolutely no cause for this guy to mar his reputation with a lie - there was nothing to gain, except perhaps the very human desire to share his story, which was minor, yet cause for any good Apple geek to get a little excited and want to share.

About a year ago, there was some random guy who absolutely believed that the Next Big Thing from Apple would be released Febuary 22, 2006. I believed him. He spoke with honesty.

Then the iPod Hi-fi was released, and he said "Oh, I guess they didn't release it yet."

If my memory serves me correctly, the MacBook was released later that year
, and he said, "THIS is it! The Next Big Thing." He probably did see the MacBook, but his version of the Next Big Thing wasn't mine.

So I learned this: everything is subjective; that goes doubly so on forums.

I hear ya Shrimp and I pride myself on my ability to sniff BS, but this story doesn't make an extraordinary claim, so I'm less inclined to suspect it.

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. What would be the motivation to lie about not asking questions? If he came on and said that he saw it and lots of new info about it THEN I would be sceptical.

Glad you got to see it in person. Although I won't be in the market for one I'd still like to mess about with it for a few minutes like you got to do.

Well, I actually have seen the iPhone in real life. I didn't see the screen or the interface, rather I only saw the outside of the device from a distance. I just remember that it was smaller than you would be led to think from the Apple website. It seemed sleek and compact.
