I don't think you mean "baseless". "Futile" maybe?
But its not. There are already things Apple is doing because of it.
And the people upset by the complaining should consider that the complainers are desperately trying to like this product and make it work. They are not your enemies.
And the fix is a very small thing.

My roof doesn't leak if it doesn't rain.
Is it defective?
Yes.

So fix your roof, the phone is what it is. If you don't like it return it. why is their a need for apology or recall when you can return it. If I bought a faulty car and they offered a fix or return I would return it. Its the same thing.

So whats your fix a landline?

Pretty much, he finally admitted that all phones have the issue and negated his whole previous argument that this was an iPhone issue. now he'll probably go back to arguing the .55% thing, or claim we're just off balance fanboys these deathgrippers just don't give up.:D

Yeah, I'm definitely staying on the more sensible fanboy side of this thing, it's kind of fun watch all these people try to prove the phone is faulty or defective though.

If toyota let people return all the cars with a break problem they would be destroyed apple is saying bring it back. So whats the problem?

Wow. I'll type slowly for you.

If all phones have an issue - then all phones have an issue - including the iPhone. Therefor the iPhone has an issue.

Just because my friend has a broken foot and I have a broken foot doesn't mean my foot isn't broken.

Yes.

I'm sure there is an app for that.

I now understand why SJ was so arrogant in his speech: He knows that there people, like the OP, who will believe every word he will say. That is why Apple will not fix anything or apologize for its mistakes.

I'll say it again unless all roofs leak, the analogy doesn't compare. Otherwise your just talking about your roof and it really just doesn't apply here.

So if all roofs leak - if mine leaks - there's NO issue? Is that what you're really trying to say?

Or do you mean - everyone is just as screwed as everyone else?

Then why do you keep referring to the iPhone. If you want to go back and edit everyone of your post to remove "iPhone" and replace it with "all phones" than OK but I don't think your going to do that. Your specifically targeting the iPhone with this issue and until recently avoiding the fact that all phones have issues so far as to twist what people including Steve Jobs are saying around.

Actually I fixed my iP4.
That statement was more directed to the issue of whether there is a defect, and not what to do as a consumer about it.

To communicate IS to be misunderstood.
Actually I was talking about my roof in particular, and not a hypothetical, or trying to make some analogy.
Even though I do learn something from the experience.

If it's an inherent problem with all roof design, would you go back to the manufacturer and complain. A better analogy would be that all roofs make attics hot in the summer. Now some may do it to varying degrees, and in some areas it may be a bigger issue than others, but they all do it. You would probably want to weigh all the factors and pick a roof that you like.

If every phone has the issue - then every phone has the issue. That doesn't mean the iPhone doesn't have an issue. That means the iPhone is just as bad (or worse) than every other iphone.

What you want to say is that since every phone behaves in x manner - no phone has an issue. That's not accurate. All phones have the issue.

If every person owes $100 to the government then you can't tell me you DON'T owe the government $100 just because everyone else does.

And that's not this issue anyway. The issue is whether or not the iPhones reception is affected more because of its design or that more people are having an issue vs other phones. And NO data can prove or disprove that at this time.

All other conversations are useless. As is this one at this point.

No.
No.
Just that something can be defective and it not be evident to everyone.
Until, perhaps, its too late. (Tires, for example.)

what i am trying to say is that its not a defect but rather a reality of owning a cellphone. If you a cell with a pull out antenna then go buy one. If you want to be on the cutting edge then accept the issue and be happy.

I own a 3GS and it's the best phone I have ever used:however.
Why is Apple getting a pass on this from a lot of users?
Go back in time..before the IP4 launch. The way SJ tells it ,he/they knew of antennae degradation,so why did they mark the weak spot?
Apple prides themselves on innovation and being pack-leader so why NOT make a better antennae instead of one that drops/loses bars like the rest of the competition?
My conclusion and it's been rumored and discussed is that they loved the design so much they could withstand the heat of reception problems in a few areas..most would blame it on AT&T.And of course fanboy and fangirl would be so drunken with the kool-aid that the sells would be Apple like.
Oh and btw..I will be getting an IP4 when my upgrade dates comes around!

I did. I choose the iPhone4 because I can live with its flaws.

So I'm confused because one minute you're saying the iphone isn't flawed and the next you are saying it is - but so is every other. So is the iPhone flawed or not? :)

Steve jobs explained that as of right now you cant get around the antenna issue. Its a reality with all phones that have a antenna. The problem is that their is a lot of crying but no one is returning the phone or calling for help. So how would there be a problem when people only complain on forums or on the news. Which gives evidence that people that don't own one are the ones crying or it is not an issue.

or it's within an acceptable parameter.

Look -my wife has shoes. She loves them. Wears them. But they hurt her feet. It's an "issue." But she would never return them because the good outweighs the bad. That doesn't mean the shoes aren't hurting her feet.

Some/Many/Who Knows how many people are keeping the iPhone 4 despite the limitations. And not just because of reception. But maybe some people don't care for how the mail app works. Some people prefer a longer battery life. Some people want an LED on top to indicate when they have an incoming message. Whatever the reasons - they KEEP their phones because they can live with the limitations.

You want to make this into a black and white issue. Either people keep or return the phone because of the reception problem. Life and motivations don't work that way.

Nicely put, I still think it is more black and white than you are trying to say otherwise. I am not one of the people saying that the phone doesn't work. If your wife opened the shoe box and one shoe was missing the heel or had different color stitching then it would be an issue that she could not live with. People are making it sound like when they pick up the phone and dial nothing happens.

Get a room, you make me sick like all the refs of the fan boys who actually like big, greedy corporations.
