If I understand the relationship, in the Jobs era Steve would give a design goal and it would be up to the engineering and the design team headed by Jony to work together to make it happen and make it pretty - Ive was in charge of the exterior design and likely consulted on the actual interior layout of parts.

After Jobs death Ive was promoted to oversee both teams, which is likely how something like the butterfly keyboard came to pass - Ive wanted thin above all else and the engineering teams had a lot less power to disagree
That helps. Thank you. I’ve seen instances where a mix of technical and non-technical people will really produce good results. Personally I loved the light, thin iPhone 6. It was one of my favorites. But I have to admit the bigger battery allows me to use the iPhone without worry of a dead battery.

Are there any phone makers following skeuomorphic design? I remember those days and yah they’re intuitive.
No, there are currently no phone makers following skeuomorphic design. They all are followers who jumped on the flat design bandwagon. Under Steve Jobs's leadership, Apple wasn't a follower. Apple led the way. But under the leadership of that mediocre MBA suit Tim Cook, Apple became a follower who jumped on the flat design bandwagon that was started by Microsoft. Microsoft was the first to use flat design with the Zune.

Under Steve Jobs, Microsoft copied Apple. Under Tim Cook, Apple copied Microsoft.

In my opinion, poor design started slipping in with such products as the last Intel 16-inch MacBook
I’d say it started with the IIGS. It just didn’t properly bring forward the excellence of the IIe. Apple’s been on a downward slope since then. I mean, they haven’t even TRIED a new Apple II in forever.

I don’t like how quickly they obsoleted the Apple I. I still use mine daily, runs great!
