You say you played like 10 min? I played the iPhone 14 Pro Max in store for about an hour, and I still don't think I can give this phone a fair chance without installing my apps and applying my usage to it. Idk how "comprehensive" and "honest" your "review" can be with such limited trial period. Even MKBHD can't release a video showing how good/bad the phone is within a few minutes. "Impression" is not the same as "full review".

Camera issue? An issue that surfaces in third party social media app that is not installed on demo devices? I don't see it in those whatever iOS 16.0 Apple put on those devices using stock camera app.

Price "not a big deal"? Other part of the world doesnt exist? USA carrier trade-in is insane, but not so much for the rest of the world. In Australia for example, you can only get up to 50% trade-in value from Apple for top of the line iPhone 13 Pro Max for top of the line iPhone 14 Pro Max. I'd argue this is not great comparatively. Not to mention tons of people who is going to buy the device outright because of incompatible contract, no valid offer, personal situation etc etc etc (cough, temporary visa holders, cough).

I don't even want to mention the "much lower" pill-hole, which is not only factually false, but also way too much exaggeration than it should've been. I personally compare the pill-hole with my iPhone XS Max, and while it is lower, it's not that much. It's not like the pill-hole is in the center of screen or something. As for watching video, sure, having a hole in the middle is annoying, but then you are not watching a movie on a phone with such tiny screen to enjoy some home studio quality, so I assume people just learn to mentally check out that hole or use other devices to watch (such as, an iPad Pro) if hole is an eyesore.

While iPhone 14 Pro Max can be a meh upgrade for a lot of people, the reasons mentioned in the OP is just not strong or outright wrong.

As for always-on display, it looks cool, but I can't say anything more than that. Wish it could be a bit dimmer though.

The one thing that makes sense, but will fluctuate a lot depending on person and usage, is the screen being on more than it would have been without AOD. After some time these components will have more hours on them possibly causing failures sooner than normal. I do hope they offer some options around AOD, like being able to make it just a clock or scheduling, maybe even add into shortcuts. When I had the S22U I used bixby routines to turn on aod when charging was initiated. So, I had a bedside clock while its charging. Speaking of bedside clocks, the best one ive seen was on the Pixel, not necessarily the aod, but the charging routine on a pixel stand. The alarm would start with a warm light covering the screen then slowly increasing with sound. It didn't wake you up abruptly, just nice and easy like you woke up on your own.

If you can accept these then don’t return the phone 14 pro/max:

-Always On Display really turn on your screen normally 24 hours a day everyday, it is not like android phone with simple graphic and turn off most of the screen. Just for showing nice picture to sell you the iphone. Your battery and display panel should die much faster than you can imagine. Battery is much more expensive than old models.

-New pill is much lower than old notch. The effective area under the pill is much smaller than all old iphone models

-All kinds of camera issues like more noise than 13 pro. It is a new sensor and a lot of new stuff, this is more like a beta version of pro 15.

-Price, you paid already then may not not a big deal
As others have mentioned the AOD can be turned off, and I know that you posted about your reasoning. I just wanted to also mentioned that if you have your phone in your pocket, face down on the table, and (if you have a Apple Watch) if you leave the area the AOD will turn off. The AOD is not exactly literally always on unless you just have it say propped in front of your desk in which that person can make the decision to either turn it off or keep it on. Also remember that AOD can also be managed with focus modes so if you have it off during "bedtime" like my focus mode the AOD is off during the night.

Using the term "much lower" is very misleading/incorrect. In the first part yes it is lower but not by much like you said we are literally talking millimeters, but technically your second part is wrong because the new pill is smaller so how is the effective area smaller than the notch? if something is overall 30% smaller how is the effective area also smaller?

Camera noise well you didn't put any kind of settings or tests you did... is this is proRAW and how were you doing side-by-side comparisons?

Price? depends on the market you are in because for U.S. it is the same as last years model, but you also did not state the market you are in.

Does not really make sense to buy a new phone then turn off the new feature or put it on a table then the screen is just on 24 hours a day

Sure it does if it's one of the new features you don't really need or want 🤷🏼‍♂️ And I doubt the always-on feature is the same as the screen just being on and using 100% of the power it normally would, because we've been able to do that for many years now by turning off auto-lock 😂

This review was written in another language and so I used my translator to help decipher it.

A little paraphrasing but I think I was able to translate the review and boil it down to make it more concise:

"I decided not to get / I did not want the iPhone 14 Pro Max and I am now telling the internet not to buy it either."

Please note that the reviewer used his or her own subjective experience but did not note that in the review.

I really doubt most people bought a new phone just for the display feature.

I had an 11 Pro with a cracked screen and a maximum battery capacity of 78% that came with many problems. It was time for me to get a new phone regardless of how long the display stays on.

I turned off the display since it would catch my eye at work and I would think I am getting a notification. Plus I have the live weather Lock Screen on so trying to conserve battery that way.

I needed a new phone and could care less about a display being always on.
I'm using the live weather Lock Screen too and love it. Also happy with AOD.

-turn off a 14 pro/max only new feature, then why even buy it.

-Most of the app would just use the rectangle behind the notch and would not do anything just for two phone models. Browser would be limited to rectangle behind the notch. Video depend on what do you watch, new notch is bad for 18:9 since half of the notch is in the video.

Camera problem:
dude if you are unable to get one.... stop giving lame reviews on the device.Go and get one and use. I did get my 14 Pro Max Space Black 1TB on Friday - upgraded from the 13 pro max 1TB and its a great upgrade... the Camera is Stunning...and so is screen.

All you do is post negative stuff about the iPhone 14. I don't understand why you bother. You're in an apple forum. 1 post highlighting your observations is fine but this clearly isn't any kind of review. There are so many other phones out there, maybe you should move on and buy something else ?

As far as AOD. I took my phone of the charger when I woke up at 3am checked the time and left the phone in the bed. Woke up a 7:30am and AOD was still on and the phone still at 100%
AOD is a option. Just because it’s a new feature no one is obligated to use it. I’m finding it’s not impacting my battery to the point where I can’t use it.

What the OP doesn’t get is that anyone can buy the phone if they want it. Whether they use AOD or not or never take a 48 MP photo. It shouldn’t matter what someone does or doesn’t do with their new iPhone.

This attitude in some of these threads of “ Ha ha you’re a fool you bought the iPhone. It’s no one’s GD business what anyone buys.

Just like the don’t buy the 14 Plus because it’s no better than the 13.
So what if it is.
I know people who want a plus size phone but don’t want the pro features. They just want a big a$$ regular iPhone and that’s great.

This is so true! Those "same as the 13" threads are annoying. Not everyone came from a 13 and so what does it matter. At that point, people are just complaining about something they did not necessarily have to get.

Wait, that topic was made by you as well? You really are just a sore hater. You start a topic on how to live with the new notch, yet you don’t even own the phone😂

I didn’t say I live with it, I just asked how to live with it.

I don’t want to get one, it is just a pro 15 beta, too many things far from completed.
