This is what I am seeing, the camera bump on the XS is SLIGHTLY taller than the X.

Some 3rd party cases - especially the ones that completely cover the entire phone (no bottom opening "lip" like the Apple Cases), the bottom holes are also different "iPhone X had six holes on each side of the Lightning port, the XS has three holes on the left and six on the right."

If these are harder plastic 2017 X cases, fitting that extremely slight taller 2018 XS camera in the hole might be an issue.

It's proven that the X Apple OEM leather case fit is too tight around the camera holes on the Xs (as Xs camera is slightly bigger. But most third-party X cases have bigger cutouts around the camera so it should even be a better fit for the Xs.

Echoing most others, there's not enough difference between the X and XS to be worth the upgrade unless you are on the IUP in which case it feels like wasted money not to upgrade given IUP is more expensive than IPP. However the Max if you like big screens is a more obvious upgrade. I want the bigger screen and an on IUP so I went Max next week.

It's proven that the X Apple OEM leather case fit is too tight around the camera holes on the Xs (as Xs camera is slightly bigger. But most third-party X cases have bigger cutouts around the camera so it should even be a better fit for the Xs.

All you have to do is use a razor blade and peel a little around the right and bottom.

I did the same thing with my iPad when the previous cases weren't sold anymore, and the cut-outs were just a little off.

That’s why I’m waiting until they have demos in the stores. So I can get a feel of the max. I agree, the thick apple cases ruin the experience of the phone even tho they look good. They’re just so unnecessarily thick. I’m in love with the grey lavender case!

XS Max I would say. Also ask if it would be possible to try an XS Max in store with an apple leather case, just so that you get a feel for the phone with a case.

I only just want the bigger screen and to "feel" like I upgraded. However, I'm going to go into the store and just see what it looks and feels like even though I'm leaning more towards getting it and returning the XS. Who knows, maybe I may find that it's too big for me.

So, I currently have the iPhone X and I pre-ordered the XS but now I'm thinking I should've just gotten the XS Max. I am REALLY conflicted now. My XS is expected to be here Friday so I'm thinking I should just return it to the store and order an XS Max. I would like to feel like I got a "new" phone by having the bigger screen but I just don't want to wait, or order new cases/screen protectors. I obviously know this is ultimately MY choice but I just want some opinions. Thanks!

Why did you rush to order the phone? It’s not as if Apple will stop selling them after the first day of sales.

You could have easily visited a retailer to try out the new models and then buy the device you preferred.

And you can still do this once your new phone arrives. Take the unopened box to a store. Test the new phones. If you prefer the XS, leave the store with your phone. If you prefer the Max, return your XS to Apple and get the Max.

I didn't rush... I went in to a store in the middle of a Saturday and I decided there. However after looking at more pictures and thinking about it I am reconsidering - that's all.

Not to nitpick, but you bought a thousand dollar phone, thats SLIGHTLY better than the thousand dollar phone you bought last year, and you want to buy a $1300 phone in its place, and your worried about spending $50 on a new case?

I had the plus for a while but it felt too much like a little tablet, especially when making phone calls. I'm glad the XS didn't get shortchanged any valuable features since I find it a perfect size when using the camera and for one handed use.

X owner here.

Definitely going to a store tomorrow to 'feel' the XS Max and see if I want to go back to the plus sized phone before I decide on that or the XS.

I'm on the IUP so it will cost me an extra $4 per month to move to the Max so cost isn't an issue - just concerned that it might be too big.

Ha, no lol. It's more of a convenience thing for me when it comes to getting new cases/screen protectors. Good point though.

Been going back and forth for a week now. Originally ordered the XS and then ordered the XS Max. Then I cancelled the XS Max. Kept thinking about it. Yesterday ordered the XS Max AGAIN. Woke up this morning and the XS Max is preparing to ship, can not cancel it now. Will replace my wife's iPhone 8 with the new XS. Plan to sell the iPhone 8 and my iPhone X when the XS Max gets here next week. Thats how I decided.

I agree. Since the Max is all glass, you'll not only have to hold and put in your pocket a very large phone, but it will be made even larger still with a robust case on it. Plus it's almost half a pound in weight. No thanks. I want a phone on me and a tablet at home.

Hm... you make a VERY good point. I have lots of little purses and im a small girl as well. Really need to consider because I will have to put a case on it thus making it even bigger.

I'm pretty sure you'll not be able to swap it out, the demand for the max I'm sure is high and the place will be crushing no doubt.

Last year there was a fair amount of iPhone X at stores. It could be the same situation tomorrow and Saturday with the Xs Max.

So I work 12 hours a day (8 to 8 today) and I missed the delivery for my phone and they took it back I have NEVER had to sign any year and they just left it at the door. I'm so disappointed lol. Sorry guys I just needed to rant haha.

Boo. If it makes you feel any better I had to wait a couple of hours at the store for my preorder because their system had issues. The phone was in front of me the entire time they just couldn't process it lol.
