Unless he want it "to go" or as our friends across the pond like to say: "Take away" ;)
FYI, I think ‘take away’ is specifically for food and doesn’t work in other contexts, similar to I believe how folks in the US say ‘take out’ - I think in this case we would also say, ‘to go’. ?

From an SD cad plugged into a Dock? I don't think so. I've read that the only way you can do that is using the something that Apple made just for it.
You don’t think so? ?? oh ok my bad!
Wtf. you read somewhere ?? The state of these forums, no - the world, today is just incredible.

I’m a photographer. Daily, I plug my card readers in to an inateck hub into my iPad Pro, and import those files, which reside on a variety of different types of card depending on which cameras I used, exactly where I want to import them on the iPad, or- shock horror, via the iPad directly onto my server.

i love the form factor of the ipad pro and i am not looking to replace the macbook pro, but i would like to produce more content with my ipad. I love the organic side of touching my creations. I use my ipad for drawing, logo and photo editing but I would like to design websites with it and do real video editing! with all this power, we have the right to want to do more things with our ipad !

so I send back my iPad Pro m1 because no app use this power ;( was very disappointed with wwdc, I had really big hope for Final Cut Pro on iPad, a little bit better file app and real support for external monitor ;( maybe next year

Are you trying to say that no creative app; specifically drawing, designing or video editing, is in position to utilise the M1 power on the iPad?

Procreate can handle a bit more layer, no real app for designing website (and no affinity designer is not great to design website, need Figma or adobe XD), and Luma Fusion is good but a bit far from final cut (and for what luma fusion can do now the M1 bring nothing)

Figma exists as a web application and there is also Figurative on the iPad which effectually brings Figma to the iPad natively. Did you try it? Its very workable client.

I don’t know what to say if you can’t design with designer or draw with any of the multitude of drawing apps available.

Agreed Luma isn’t final cut but it hardly brings nothing to the table. Try a few projects with it and see. You say you have a mac anyway presumably with Final Cut Pro on it. You can export to final cut from Luma. It’s easy to start projects on Luma and use in conjunction with your mac if you can’t fully bring the project to fruition on the iPad. That goes for most things.

Anyway using an iPad to replace a mac for this kind of thing is very doable, but it’s never going to replace any sort of mac based production (design/video/art) studio. It can work alone and in conjunction with one very well though. I certainly don’t see the logic in dismissing it out of hand and sending one back once you have tried one.

I just initiated a return this morning as just got back from Offshore.

UPS picked both the 12.9 M1 and Logitech Keyboard case up 10min ago. No point keeping a device and paying all that money when it just isn’t being utilised with any great software, my 11” iPad Pro 2018 works just fine with Luma :)

I can always buy again when Apple get their finger out!

I returned my 2021 Golf and will keep my 2020 model. No point keeping a device that isn’t utilised differently.

Well, if the tools/software/functionality is absent what are they supposed to do? Some professionals do more than send emails and doodle ?

Yeah, that's my point.

This is a device designed for creative professionals not other professionals. They do not need more features.

Would Apple agree with that?

Why the hell did you buy it? Others really want it and you took one away from them just so you could open the box and then return.

Initially I was head over heels for the specs on the new iPad pro m1; however, after using it, I decided to return it:

1. It's too large to use casually or comfortably on a couch or chair. Your wrist tires. You essentially have to turn it into a laptop with some sort of accessory. The only reason I went for 12.9" was because of the new screen---I "had" to go with 12.9" it was the only way to get the best display. My 2018 11" pro is the perfect size, it seems.

2. The operating system is highly limited and practically the same as iOS. So for most tasks I ended reaching for my phone before the iPad. What a disappointment that the operating system, even in 2021, is still juvenile.

3. I already have an M1 Air which is worlds ahead of this iPad due to MacOS. It was also cheaper than the iPad Pro, a more primitive and limited device. Also, the M1 air gets better battery life.

4. The return on investment was terrible. I paid a ton for this device and it was essentially a big phone.
Interesting, thanks for sharing! Having bought a 2020 11 Pro and a 6 gen regular iPad I am actually considering getting a 12'9 iPad Pro, except a different, older generation, the 3rd to be exact. The major reason being is that having seen the new M1 in person I am not sure I like the display on it, in a store-lit enviro it seemed not that much better if at all from the predecessor. Main reason for wanting to buy the 12'9 pro is that it may be better as a side car to my MBP, client meetings and watching movies while on travel. The 3rd gen has 6 gigs of ram in 1tb configuration, which is exactly te same as the M1's predecessor... and yet its roughly half the price.

Hmmm.. M1 iPPs start out with 8GBs. The 1TB configuration gets you 16GBs, but I agree… you probably could grab a 3rd gen 1TB configuration for half the price of a 1TB M1 iPP.

Apple Certified Refurbished is $1049/1TB WiFi and $1179/1TB LTE.

But I’ll bet that the next owner that gets it from the refurb site at a discount will be quite happy.
