Do you sync with your mac address book? I just made a backup of my stuff in iTunes. It asked before I restored it and then when I hooked my iPhone back up iTunes asked if I wanted to restore from the back up file I made. All my contacts email settings etc. are there now.

The problem is that I don't sync it well my contacts I don't sync

No it downgrades the BASEBAND (this controls the phone features) NOT the Bootloader when you choose to Unlock a phone that has a 4.6 bootloader. This is because the Baseband that came with 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 could not be unlocked but the one for 1.1.2 could.

What does the bootloader actually do?

After doing a little more reading, I think that I might want to downgrade my BootLoader from 4.6 to 3.9, has anyone on this board tried it? Is it really as dangerous as I made it sound in my other post?

I like the idea of having the same firmware and baseband, but this can only be achieved on bootloader 3.9. Besides the potentially bricking of the iPhone by downgrading the bootloader are there any other reason people should not downgrade it?

I downgraded mine, but only because my 4.6 had gotten corrupted somehow, so I went to 3.9.

The process went fine, no hassle and was done in a couple of mins.

If the Locate Me feature of maps is that important to you, then do it, but there really is no reason to do it ATM. Apparently the dev-team are working on a custom bootloader, which will be better than either 3.9 or 4.6, but once you go to 3.9, you can't go back to 4.6, which means you won't be able to upgrade to the custom one when it's released.

I don't mind, as I'd rather have phone functionality than a custom bootloader, but if you don't have to downgrade, then I wouldn't.

In a new OTB 16GB iPhone, when using Ziphone 2.5, must you downgrade the bootloader seperately or is it done by Ziphone 2.5?

Thanks for your reply! I think I will hold off.

Taking things in a different direction, are the bug fixes in 1.1.4 making the phones 'snappier'? Or since everything is seemingly working great on my 1.1.3 unlocked, should I just stay with it?

You don't have to downgrade the bootloader at all, it is an option in the advanced menu.

Downgrading the bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9 gives you the ability to have Locate Me on google maps working, and lets you keep the same baseband & firmware combo, which theoretically means they should interact better. But people (including me) have had no problems having a different baseband & firmware combo (firmware 1.1.3 & the BB version from 1.1.2).

Has anyone run ZiPhone 2.5 to unlock and jailbreak, and is Edge working with T-Zones? Those of you on T-Mobile USA?

restore - update

Sorry people, newb just trying to be careful so I don't have to bother you for a major fix later. Wanting to go from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 then use the Ziphone 2.5. Everything I've read say's "restore" and not "update" when I initially sync with itunes but doesn't the "restore" selection just take it back to the original settings. How do I get to 1.1.4.

Which button to press hmmmmmmmmm.

please & thank you for your help!

Yesterday I had a 1.1.3, 3.9BL iPhone Unlocked, Activated, Jailbroken using an earlier version of Ziphone. I took the plunge last night and RESTORED it to 1.1.4 using iTunes. I then Activiated, Unlocked, Jailbreaked using ZIPHONE 2.5 (OSX) and it worked fine. No problems whatsoever AND it was really quick. One thing to note is that some APPs will no longer install first time e.g Summerboard, but there are relatively easy workarounds.

As for restoring, yes it will remove all the content on you iPhone but you can restore from the last backup in Itunes when you plug it in. I do not do this because I want to start from scratch with a new Firmware.

How to update my unlocked iPhone 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 with ZiPhone

Hiya,

I have got an 8gb unlocked iPhone with firmware 1.0.2. I am wondering how do i upgrade the firmware to 1.1.4 and keep it unlocked.

I bought the iPhone already unlocked so I have never done this before.
Do I need to put installer on my iPhone before I update it in iTunes to 1.1.4 and then use Ziphone 2.5 to jailbreak and unlock?

I would be very greatful for any help with this.

Thank you,

Vanilth

Right click on the MAC link and choose Download linked file

Thanks for the tip - tried that and it wouldn't work.

I just opened the page up in Firefox, then clicking on the link it saved the binary file to the desktop. Then clicking on that it created the app.

Now waiting for my friend to get here to upgrade his phone and re-unlock...

I definitely would NOT upgrade if I was you. The free unlocking programs for 1.0.2 caused quite serious problems when the iphones were upgraded to later firmware.

What you should do is VIRGINIZE your iphone first and then you will be able to upgrade and use ZIPHONE. See this website : http://iphone.unlock.no/ and search the page for "My phone is already unlocked - can i update to 1.1.1?". This applies to upgrading iphone from 1.0.2 to ANY later firmware.

So what do you do?

I click on the link for the Mac program and all I get is a bunch of garbage text on the Safari page?

The Windows link seems to download an .exe file...

Let the entire page load. When it's done, use File -> Save As

in the dialog box that appears, remove the .txt extension and when asked, select "don't append." the resulting file will be a tarball (combo tar and zip) file. just double-click it to extract the program (just like any .zip file).

I used:

On instructions to re-virginize my 1.0.2 iPhone. It's easy now, update to the latest Installer, and I think it's one of the programs you can install on your iPhone. It will put a 1.0.2 iPhone back...

Somebody must have written an installer script for it. Thats a lot easier than when I did it, although all I had to do was SSH into the iphone and run a shell script. Did not take that long to run really. Good luck with the 1.1.4 update. I am certain you wont have any problems.
