earth, for now.
I did it. I sold it. I sold my iPad and Im ok with it. For now. lol

I friggin loved my iPad. I got it the first day it came out in Canada, and all my friends couldn't be happier because I bothered them for months before it came out.. I was pretty much obsessed. what ever

Then along came the iPhone 4. What the hell. I said to myself for many months that I wasn't gonna give in and get an iPhone 4. It would have been my first iPhone though.

As the release date kept creeping up on me, I realized, holy frignuts my contract of 3 years was ending in a few months with my current Bell Phone LOL

That was the last time me and the iPad ever spoke. It's been bitter sweet ever since. Not really. The iPhone took the cake and the iPad god backhanded.

:)

oh and.. Im willing to start saving my money on the next rendition of the iPad, and if any of those posts out there are right that maybe late jan-feb/2011, Im gonna be ready. (yes. I know it could be much longer than early 2011 before they release the new one, still, a good head start is better than no head start ;) Plus. Retina display baby. Long live the iPhone4.

:apple:

Glad you're happy dude! I'm on the verge of getting an iPad actually, even though I have an iPhone 4. I don't really think the current iPad can "match up" with the 4, but I want it anyway..... apple fan boy here. lol :apple:

Ha, yeah, the retina display is totally worth it IMO.

I totally 'get' the idea that the iPhone's screen is really nice and all....but are you seriously saying that you'd rather watch movies and tv shows on the small screen rather than the 10" screen? and surfing the internet too? what about eBooks?

I can't see that being possible. I guess its all what you use it for (ie - photos and communication) but for media it can't top the iPad.

The iPhone is a true mobile device (for sticking in your pocket) but the iPad is made as a great media consumption device....

I get what your saying but I think id be depressed if I sold mine. However since I upgraded my 3GS to the 4 I have definitely been neglecting my ipad. I cant wait for the 2nd gen tho. just a bit faster, more ram and a tad better display (+facetime) and the ipad will be perfect. I know its not possible to get a retina display in an ipad size so just a little better and ill be happy.

I don't see how owning an iPhone 4 excludes having an iPad too. I have both and I am happy about it. The iPhone is a mobile phone and I use it more when I am on the road. The ipad is the perfect companion when at home, at the hotel or even when travelling. I cant think how I can live without my iPad. It is so personal and has become a part of my life.

Yeah, sheer size makes all the difference here. (To narrowly evade a cliché.)

Instead of abandoning my iPad and buying an iPod Touch 4g, I kept the iPad. I would have anyway, but I realised that the (admittedly very nice) display was just too pokey for the things I like to do with my iOS device. (When will that be autocapitalised like iPod etc?). So I just didn't need the iPod enough to justify the outlay.

'Retina display' will be nice when it comes to iPad. I can skip a gen of the Touch (probably). And I put 'retina display' in scare-quotes because I'm pretty sure it won't match the dot pitch of iPhone/iPod, but be double their pixel measurements instead, which will be comparable at the matching viewing distance.

It's funny how everyone said the iPad display was beautiful... Until the retina display hit the market... Tech heads are a fickle bunch...

I'll keep my old iPod touch and my iPad and I shall continue to be perfectly happy :)

Edit: and yes I have 'experienced' the retina display on the iPhone/ipod touch.

NOT everyone. I pointed out the display resolution issues, and lack of RAM issues. And guess what day I pointed those out? Yep, April 3. Day 1 of iPad release in the USA. Well before any "Retina" displays/iPhone 4.

Quite simply, the iPad screen PALES in comparison to the iPhone 4's. The iPad screen washes out really easily, is nowhere near as black or contrasty as the iPhone 4's, and is lacking in resolution.

THAT said, I love my iPad, and can't live without it.

So nya. :)

Exactly. Dumbest comparison ever: iPad vs. iPhone. The people that make these comparisons do not live in a reality based world.

Wie Gehts petvas. You said it perfectly. The iPhone is just that a phone while the iPad is a media device. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are unable to make the distinction then start these: "I am selling my iPad" threads to make these completely unrealistic proclamations.

You'll regret it. This is bascially like saying, i'm getting an iPhone so i'll sell my Macbook.

No, it's like (actually, exactly) saying that 'I am getting an iPhone, so I'll sell my iPad'. You cannot put the iPad and a MacBook in the same place. I'm not saying that in some ways, the iPad is not better or worse.

To the OP - I'm sure you'll survive. You might even benefit from having all that time that so far, you spent on not particularly productive tasks on your iPad. Fun is fine, but with the iPad, many people complain that they just spend too much time on it.

I think your expectations about an upgrade coming in January or February is right. If Apple will indeed release a new version before Christmas, then you'll just have a laugh.

My situtation is pretty much like petvas
I just got an iPhone 4 but i am not going to sell my iPad because its a much better device(for me) in terms of web-surfing,watching videos and reading books,I love both of them and both have different usages for me. :apple:

The Retina Display serves its purpose on the Iphone, (and now Ipod touch) because the screens are so much smaller. The point here was to have a beautiful screen, in which the experience wouldn't have you constantly zooming in to read text, which is certainly not a problem on the Ipad given its screen real-estate.

I have both Iphone 4 and Ipad and yes, the retina display is very nice, I just think people miss the point of it on the Iphone/Ipod touch. People act like the resolution is so bad on the Ipad? I dont get it. People need to quit comparing so many devices with one another, and enjoy them for what they were when the first hit the market. You don't like the display, don't buy it.

And for the OP, I think you may regret your decision

Cheers!

Exactly. I just don't get the iPad vs iPhone comparison. They are two different devices, meant for two completely different functions. Maybe some people fell alive when they have something to complain about.

No one gave two ***** about retina until the iPhone 4. Most people only want it, they don't need it whatsoever.

Pretty much spot on. I like the "Retina Display" on my iPhone but then again I use my iPhone closer to my face than I do my iPad. I guess the people complaining about the iPad must have it about 3 inches from their face. Who knows. Complaining gives some people meaning.

This.

There's no doubt that the iPad will get a higher PPI display in the future, but not a Retina Display.

This focus on the "poor" image quality of the ipad is crazy.

The ipad has a similar pixel density of just about every monitor. I have a 20" 4:3 monitor, which displays 1600x1200. It has almost exactly 4 times the surface area of my iPad. And it has slightly less then 4 times the pixels.

The same is true of my laptop.. 13.3" display. 1368x960 resolution. About the same pip as the iPad.

I will say that I typically rest my ipad on my lap, about 24" from my eyes. I hold my phone about 12" from my face when reading. Ergo, there is no need for the iPad to duplicate the resolution of iphone4. At two feet, I cannot see individual pixels on my iPad. Sure, the resolution looks poor if I hold it 3" from my face. But who does that?

Do you have any some sort of proof that ipad will get retina display? In order to be retina display, apple said it has to be 300 pixels per inch or higher. So, you are so sure that 2nd gen ipad will get retina display with 500 dollars base price? I doubt that. Your thread is really based on assumptions and speculations.

Exactly. All this talk about retina displays is stupid. The screen on the iPad is stunning. I have absolutely no plans to get an iPhone 4 and yes, ive seen the screen.

This reminded me of a dream i had the other night that i owned an iPad but it was a waste of money because i never used it.:D

I already posted this but after having the iphone for a week and then seeing the ipad for the first time irl the screen did look poor.
