I don't get the comparison between the iPhone and iPad either. Different devices. I will say - when I got my iPad I FINALLY was able to dump the iPhone and AT&T for the BlackBerry Tour and Verizon. While I admittedly like the iPhone better than BlackBerry, AT&T's service was horrible. I did not get 3G because I refuse to ever do business with AT&T again. They are wretched.

Now when I look at the iPhone its screen is so small. Can't imagine ever going back even if it comes to Verizon.

I dont touch my iPhone 4 when my iPad is around (always). It's just a phone and quick email checker now and I doubt I will upgrade it next round. Actually, I typically skip a phone and will most likely be skipping multiple models now.

However, I do use it to watch podcasts while doing other things on the iPad, so i guess it's good for that.

LOL at complaining about having a 1024x768 IPS display in the palm of your hands as being 'low quality'. That's just funny.

On the other hand, I sold my iPhone 4, keeping my iPad + 3GS instead. The iPhone 4 was very uncomfortable to hold, sharp edges instead of smooth, contoured-to-the-hand type edges.

Screen was really nice, though, and I will miss it. I'll be buying a retina display iPad in a heartbeat.

If ipad had some more ram it would be flat out the best thingy for consuming media/internet browsing. I remember I had the droid and browsed on it extensively, then I got the ipad. I could not touch the droid anymore. I used it exclusively for tethering to the ipad until I eventually sold it.

I'm of similar thought. Having an iPad makes it much easier to not use an iPhone but still remain connected to the iOS ecosystem. The fact I've got an 8GB 2nd gen iPod touch helps, too.

Though I will go back to using an iPhone if/when it comes to Verizon.

Everybody is comparing iPhone 4 displays to the iPad...while it is an obvious comparison it just doesn't make sense as the smaller a display is the cheaper it is to produce.

I have an iP4 and an iPad and I did think the iPad's display was awesome, after iP4 it has become a bit less awesome. But it is still way better than any display I have seen in comparable netbooks. The iPad can be seen even when looking at it from a 60 degree angle, which is a ton better than any netbook i've seen which distort colors and lose brightness when sitting right next to someone.

Even though the iP4 screen is obviously better the iPad screen is still a great display in its own right.

You'll regret it. This is bascially like saying, i'm getting an iPhone so i'll sell my Macbook.

Your the second to say this... lol And no, I dont regret it in the least. The iPad is amazing, but in my case, the iPhone took all the attention. I simply use it more and more, and instead of just keeping the iPad around while it loses value, I figured I'd sell it. :)

Im a happy camper.

I never quite get these threads. What is the purpose of telling strangers that you are selling your iPad? Are you attention starved or just lonely? Need something to say?

P.S. It's you're, not your.

I totally 'get' the idea that the iPhone's screen is really nice and all....but are you seriously saying that you'd rather watch movies and tv shows on the small screen rather than the 10" screen? and surfing the internet too? what about eBooks?

I can't see that being possible. I guess its all what you use it for (ie - photos and communication) but for media it can't top the iPad.

The iPhone is a true mobile device (for sticking in your pocket) but the iPad is made as a great media consumption device....

Oh, dont get me wrong, the iPad is amazing for video content! Definitely. I honestly dont mind watching my videos on the iPhone. I rather enjoy it. I dont read ebooks, but I have the iBooks on the iPhone, and it's fine. I dont find the screen to small,... so it works for me.

I do alot of surfing on the iPhone 4, and it's great (Atomic Browser) so it's a great experience, esp when it's Fullscreened.. but sure, the iPad was pretty stellar. But thats not a big enuff reason for me to keep it. :)

iPhone does the trick for me.

Wie Gehts petvas. You said it perfectly. The iPhone is just that a phone while the iPad is a media device. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are unable to make the distinction then start these: "I am selling my iPad" threads to make these completely unrealistic proclamations.

I can't agree with your comment. I based my reasonings for selling the iPad off of my specific needs and wants, and my needs/wants are different then others, and just because they are different, doesnt make them false.

I've had the iPad since day one in Canada - and Im not saying it's NOT a great device. What I am saying is, between the iPad and the iPhone 4, I use the iPhone 4 for my media content, photos, surfing and gaming.

No, it's like (actually, exactly) saying that 'I am getting an iPhone, so I'll sell my iPad'. You cannot put the iPad and a MacBook in the same place. I'm not saying that in some ways, the iPad is not better or worse.

To the OP - I'm sure you'll survive. You might even benefit from having all that time that so far, you spent on not particularly productive tasks on your iPad. Fun is fine, but with the iPad, many people complain that they just spend too much time on it.

I think your expectations about an upgrade coming in January or February is right. If Apple will indeed release a new version before Christmas, then you'll just have a laugh.

- Ya, I didnt really do much 'productive' tasks with the iPad. Email, surfing, and movies. Not so productive... :) But still, it's a great product and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Retina Display serves its purpose on the Iphone, (and now Ipod touch) because the screens are so much smaller. The point here was to have a beautiful screen, in which the experience wouldn't have you constantly zooming in to read text, which is certainly not a problem on the Ipad given its screen real-estate.

I have both Iphone 4 and Ipad and yes, the retina display is very nice, I just think people miss the point of it on the Iphone/Ipod touch. People act like the resolution is so bad on the Ipad? I dont get it. People need to quit comparing so many devices with one another, and enjoy them for what they were when the first hit the market. You don't like the display, don't buy it.

And for the OP, I think you may regret your decision

Cheers!

No regrets yet! :)

... and just adding my input. I never said that the iPad's screen res wasn't great. It's fantastic. The iPhone 4's retina is amazing. It's not the sole reasong why I decided to sell the iPad. :)

I had to put the iPhone in one hand, and the iPad in the other, and evaluate which one I used more, and it was by far the iPhone 4. I didn't want to keep the device for the sake of 'having it'. I realized that I enjoyed the iPad for the time I had it, and felt it was time to move on from that.

Pretty much spot on. I like the "Retina Display" on my iPhone but then again I use my iPhone closer to my face than I do my iPad. I guess the people complaining about the iPad must have it about 3 inches from their face. Who knows. Complaining gives some people meaning.

I wasn't complaining with my OP. Not at all.

Do you have any some sort of proof that ipad will get retina display? In order to be retina display, apple said it has to be 300 pixels per inch or higher. So, you are so sure that 2nd gen ipad will get retina display with 500 dollars base price? I doubt that. Your thread is really based on assumptions and speculations.

Yes, the OP is full of speculation and assumptions. I dont claim to have any insider knowledge with the direction Apple will take on the next Gen. iPad. Those were simply 'guesses' of what might happen. Either way, if... IF the next GEN is released in say.. FEB 2011.. thats only 5-5.5 months. Not that far away.. And Im ok with waiting. I've had nearly every new Apple Product since 2008. Im in no hurry for the latest. But I do save up.

I'd rather save up my money before hand, before purchasing a new product, then slapping it down on a credit card.

Grammar Police?!

- and why does anyone post 'anything' on these forums? If posts like 'this' bother you so much, why bother reading them, and why bothering commenting? Either way - No, I am not attention starved, or lonely. I have a great life thanks, :)

I posted it on here because, As a User, I wanted to share my thoughts on my situation, which is my right as a user of this forum group.

I did not say you couldn't post here or not have the right to post here. That wasn't my question. I just don't get the need to express these feelings here in a supposedly technical forum about rumors. There is Facebook for what you want to do. Someone mentioned a while ago that due to posts such as yours MR is becoming more and more like Facebook where there is less relevant content and more general posts about the weather, birds, stock price of corn in Gambia, washing my dog, etc...

By all means post away. It is your right, but it is also my right not to see it as being very useful and at best distracting from what this forum is supposed to be about. I really do wish the mods would implement a VIP subscription type model for those who would like less fluff and more "interesting" types of info and discussion.

Wasn't trying to hammer you about the grammar. Was just trying to point out a obvious mistake. I guess you don't like being corrected either.

No no no, I dont mind being corrected. I was just being a smart-arse! Thats all! Thanks for your comments. I appreciate it. :)
