This focus on the "poor" image quality of the ipad is crazy.

"Retina" is gorgeous. Ridiculously clear. However, when I open Fotopedia on the iPad I swear I've never played with a more gorgeous, enthralling application. Such beautiful pictures.

I just bought an ipad after a lot of thinking.
In the end, this made sense. This is what it was going to cost me

ipod touch : $229

iphone: $795

ipad: $500

wait...WHAT?

just because the iphone can make calls, it costs $556 more?!?

I can buy an ipod touch+ipad , and still it would be less than an iphone 4!

The funny thing is that the ipad has a much larger screen and lasts 10 hours of use! I don't think you can say the same about the iphone.

It costs me that much because there is no contracts where I live, I have to buy it full price from the UK.

it should have been:

ipod: $229 , iphone : $500, ipad : $795 , this would have made sense.
bigger long lasting device,

I am not sure which is superior spec wise though

and I will never understand why the iphone costs more than the ipad, and so much over the ipod touch, I really don't think cellphone hardware costs that much.

I know the retina is cool and all, but the ipad's screen is just as gorgeous .

I've stopped using the iPhone for the internet and watching movies. Who can really be arsed looking at that small screen. For emergencies, music and playing Angry Birds only (yeah and calls ofc). I don't even run a data tariff on the iPhone now.

Not saying I'm an iPad fan - I don't have one. But the novelty of using internet and watching movies wears thin on a small screen after a few months.

You shouldn't be comparing the iPhone to the base model iPad, you should be comparing it to the 3G model because both have 3G and GPS chips. The iPhone is more expensive because it also has a camera, retina display, all the other phone chips...

@OP Good luck in your test of will! Haha. I tried the same thing, but only made it a few days without an iPad. I find the iPhone screen very, very nice but the size is still reason enough enough for me to own an iPad as well. Using my iPhone to surf was always a pain to me, hate the constant panning and zooming to read anything so moving to the iPad solved that issue for me. I have already resold several iPads so my current one is paid in full and then some by those Craigslist buyers that didn't want to wait a few days to order one. Gotta love impatient people!

Anyhow, I'm sure I'll upgrade my iPad as the new gen comes out but still dot see the iPhone doing many tasks I currently use my iPad for. To me, they are two very different machines each with their own unique benefits.

The size of the iPad screen makes it a superior item to the iPhone 4.

But again, as I've always said, you gotta have BOTH.

No holes. Every niche has to be filled. MBP, iPhone, iPad. All of it.

Well I have both an iPad and and iPhone 4. If I had to give up one of them, it would be the iPhone 4, no contest. I could never go back to watching videos, reading books and browsing the web on that small iPhone screen. I like my iPhone BUT I love my iPad.

The retina display on the iPhone 4 is great but facts are facts. IT'S SMALL!!! The size of the iPad screen makes it a joy to use especially for those with not so perfect eye site.

True, I do see a lot of detail in the retina display but it really isn't much good for watching video for long periods of time.

(BTW, I have both the iPad and the iPhone 4)
