I really want to start using my iPad more... All it does it sit next to my bed and gain dust. I don't know whether its because this thing has no utility for a student/businessman or because I just haven't given it the chance... What apps do I need to make this thing worth while? I REALLY do want to start using it but I feel like bringing my Macbook Pro everywhere still because it'll lack a feature that I'll NEED. I don't know, I just need a kick in the butt to start using this thing, will someone please tell me about their experiences so I can LEARN to love my iPad like I want to?

you sound like one of those people that buy apple products not knowing what its for and then say to yourself, you'll figure out a use for it after you buy it.

Comicbooklover!

Best way to view Marvel, DC, Darkhorse, etc scans.
Laptop is too awkward.

actually, a lot of people did that, including me. buy now, and wait for the killer apps to come out. bear in mind the tablet is still a nascent genre.

i dont find myself using it everyday. if i have a desktop in the same room as my iPad. i will head on over to my desktop rig.

now, when im traveling, this iPad is fuggin killer bra.

music and streaming movies (air video)? check.
tethered via bluetooth (ibluever, from cydia)? check
Remote Desktop to my Windows 7 machine? check (which essentially makes the iPad a windows 7 tablet)
multiplayer gaming (i play charadium hd)? check
and it goes on and on...

my advice, travel more with your iPad. You will be using it a lot more.

I'm in Project Management and I couldn't imagine not having my iPad. I was using my iPhone to sync my Bento databases and, for the most part, it was working out. Since I got my iPad, my iPhone is mostly used...as a phone.

I can now sync my Bento 3 databases and not lose any information. Between that and Dropbox, Evernote and GoodReader, my productivity has improved, especially out in the field.

Just by looking at your signature it appears you are an apple fan and maybe just bought the ipad for the appleness of it. That said, if you feel you are trying too hard to use it, the device probably isn't for you. No big deal, not every iDevice will be a perfect fit for every consumer.

You should've had a plan of what you were going to use it for before you bought it.

Stop your whining and sell it.

Not a rare situation...

I felt the same during the first week after I received it, but then started to discover how to use it, first to complement my MBP, then to replace it sometimes. I decided that I was going to return it otherwise.

If you have time within the return-limit, give it a try once again. Don't let it catch dust. Use it to read and annotate your eBooks, use it as a notepad, and to access your email. Other uses will come up over time.

I use my iPad all the time mainly because my iPhone is so damn slow. iPhone gets used for calls/texting and everything else is done on the iPad. Things might change however once get the iP4.

If you want to use it more, take it out of your bedroom and put it in the bathroom. You will use it plenty in there!

-Sent from my iPad while in the bathroom :)

So far I haven't gotten much use out of my iPad either. I thought I would browse on it instead of my MBP but it takes so long to render a page that I find it tedious. Maybe it is just my iPad or does anybody else find it slow? They are both on the same wifi network.

Quite the opposite for me. Browsing on iPad is very speedy for me. I love it.

The iPad does render pages slower without any question.

It's a bit sneeky though as it displays the 1st screens worth really quick and then you think great, till you scroll down into grey checkerboard.

I use mine for Reading (Lots of It)

Taking notes in meetings,

Web Browsing,

Spotify on the go wherever I am,

For fun time with my son, he loves playing with it,

Watching movies in bed on Air Video (So useful)

Twitter,

Facebook,

Skype calls when I am away from my monitor,

Keeping up with the news,

Planning my Nights Warcraft play when I have a spare ten mins. (Checking the Auction House and such)

I find I do so much with it, I love it.

Oh and now my wife wants one as well.

Oh and I have over 1000 comics I can load onto it using Comic Zeal.

To be really truthful it is like I can carry around my entire life now and my childhood wherever I go, I know that is quite sad but I think I want to be buried with mine. :) (hopefully be buried somewhere that has wi fi)

I ended up in the same situation and decided to sell it. Now I know exactly what I can use it for, what I can't, and what I feel it needs. The things it needs for me are something that will probably come with the second generation hardware and a more mature OS.
Having already tried it, I'll happily wait another year. I sold it after two months for the same price I bought it so no loss. I'm happy how it turned out, since I'm a student I need to spend $600 only on stuff which I get alot of utility from.

I guess I am finding it is also slow to download pages. I opened the same page on my MBP and it took like 2 seconds and around 15 seconds on my iPad. Of course I don't expect it to perform like a MBP but waiting 15 seconds each time i click on a thread here seems a bit much.

My wifi is kind of wonky at this serviced apartment so I hope maybe it is that.

I think this has more to do with memory optimization than anything else. Restarting the device may help a bit.

I couldn't imagine living without my iPad at this point. Well, I could but I wouldn't.

iPad Abilities

I have managed to completely replace my laptop with my iPad. I recently took in on a 2 week business trip and did not need my MacBook laptop once.

Apps that help:
1) RDM+ (or similar app): This app allows you to remotely log into your always-connected, always-on desktop/laptop computer back at home. Meaning, you can log in and access accounting data, photoshop, etc. NOTE: pretty slow (2 - 3 second lag time) over 3G, only about 1 second lag on wifi.

2) Pages & Numbers: These actually work great. I have no complaints and they replace my Excel and Word on the MacBook.

3) CoPilot HD: fully functional, voice turn-by-turn guidance GPS system (for the 3G iPad only) with spoken street names. $30. Unbelievable!

4) Netflix: why not enjoy some of your instant queue Netflix while on the go. I use it all the time.

5) iDisk: I use MobileMe for email and cloud data storage. Their newly upgraded app was worth the wait. You can store data right to it and open it on your iPad, as well as open it in different programs like Pages and Numbers.

6) Skype: makes your 3G iPad a big phone, if you are so inclined, and have the SkypeOut plan (I do).

7) FTPOnTheGo: if you do any website work, including programming or HTML coding, etc, this is the perfect app for you. Access any website on the go and make changes wherever you are. Well designed app.

8) QuickSale: my wife uses this. Basic accounting / invoicing program allowing you to create invoices and email them right from the app. Pretty neat for $10.

Hope that helps!

What is the best App to remote connect to windows 7?
