Go for what you want If you want to play games get a dell XPS.

But seriously stop flaming dell I doubt you'd like it if I dissed apple you would all stand up for you precious mac's. Its so dumb. jeez!

For the record, the only reason I posted at all was because I'm sick of these threads. I don't think there is anything wrong with buying a PC over a Mac if that's what you prefer, but the point of this thread is...?

I don't go to a BMW forum and say "I almost bought a BMW but instead I got an Audi because it was better...". You know what people would say? Good for you. Why do you feel the need to tell us?

Go join a Dell forum or something.

The point of my original post was in the last sentence "Is there any chance that any of these features may be present in new iMac's ...... 2 years from now ??"

I thought this would lead to people talking about what may or may not happen in way of improvements/revisions of the iMac over the next couple of years ..... future technology, special features, etc etc ....... :)

Instead half the responses have been "I really don't give a ***** about this thread - which is why I will take the time and trouble to post in it" !!!!

Comedy Gold !! :D :p :D

We take the time to post because we (or at least myself) are sick of threads about why someone decided NOT to buy a Mac. They are pointless. If you wanted a thread about possible future changes to the iMac, you should've just asked that instead of going on a rant about why you decided not to buy one. This is a Mac forum. You should've expected this type of response...

Agreed, but better yet, he should have been asking these questions BEFORE making his decision. What if the answer to all of his wants turned out to be included in the next release? I guess we are to believe that if that happened, he would ditch his Dell and buy a Mac. Sorry, I don't buy it. Around my house, if one of the kids orders something at a restuarant that turns out they don't like, we say that "they made a poor menu selection". Seems like this is sort of the same case. It sounds like the poster made a decision that they didn't really want to make, and is now looking for affirmation. I also wish there was something in the Apple line that sort of filled some gaps for me, but there isn't so I just need to plan accordingly. I still plan on switching to a Mac (from a Dell).

Wow, You people love your mac's waaaaay!!! to much. It's sad you will do everything to protect it.

Perfectionistjust told why the imac wasn't as good as he thought, he told you this so some other people don't buy one and regret it because there's cheaper better stuff out there. So quit bashing dell and sticking up for apple so much. Computer's have problems including macs so don't act they don't!

I think at this point the best thing we can do is continue posting on this thread. I want it to stay at the top of the forum list so that more people get a chance to read it. I think this thread is very revealing.

Now back to the business at hand:

I think that there is a special place in hell reserved for people like Perfectionist. Perfectionist, what you have done is akin to the atrosities of Nero and Hitler. This is what the war on terror is all about. When are you going to crawl out of your cave and face the public for what you have done. How many more must die Perfectionist? How many??????????????????????

Perfectionist, you obviously are not familiar with our Creed??
"We beleive in one Computer, the only-begotten Son of Steve Jobs, begotten of Steve before all worlds, Mac of Mac, Light of Light, Very Mac of Very Mac, begotten, not made, being of one substance with Steve Jobs by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the spirit of Macintosh, and was made Apple. Amen"

No "mini tower" Mac anytime soon...but 2 years is not out of the question

The reason I don't think Apple is going to introduce a "mini-Tower" Mac is that it kind of goes against their whole current consumer marketing push. Apple is at the forefront of continuing to make computers as simple and indispensable as other established consumer electronics markets like stereos, TVs, etc. I think especially after iTV is launched, Apple is going to push the "mac Mini" as a a media center computer to put in the living room (though with iTV, I guess the computer could be in the next room anyway). The iMac will be marketed as an all-in-one solution perfect for the den, bedroom, dorm room, home office, etc. the Mac *Pro* will continue to be marketed to professionals as they are today (or people that have enough money to pay for a professional-grade computer).

That being said, I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that apple would *never* come out with an upgradable computer (not necessarily a mini-Tower, there might be another form factor). In fact, if Apple gains traction with the iTV, that might give Apple a rationale for selling another headless computer that is an upsell from the Mac mini, but not as expensive as the Mac Pros. The market that Apple would be hoping to capture here is: 1) gamers and 2) "amateur" video/music enthusiasts that need specialty cards but can't afford or justify buying a full Mac Pro because they're not actually making money off of what they're doing yet. But I think such an upgrade would be at least a couple of years away. I think Apple wants to make serious inroads into the consumer market before they start segmenting the consumer market any further...

Now that seems to be a rational, well thought out response. I certainly hope your assessment turns out to be correct.

Hey, didn't we divorce ourselves from you a bunch of postings ago and send you off to sit with the girls?

And where is our alimony check?

Please take me back! I'm sorry, I dont know what I was thinking.

Dude, if my post was soooo pointless and you are soooo sick of threads like this ..... then let it die !! Why bother keeping it alive by posting !!

PS - I would have thought that finding out why people didn't/don't buy Mac's would be pretty important to Apple ..... how else will they increase their market share ???

I fully agree with you ..... anybody who has the gall, the audacity, the sheer nerve to actually think Apple could have maybe, possibly, potentially ..... done things a little better ..... deserves to have a 1000 iPods (playing tunes he hates) forcefully inserted into every orifice of his body until he dies the slow and painful and ruthlessly musical death, he is so amply requested .....

I shall go and lube up ......

People keep mentioning here that Apple don't really make "gaming" machines ...... why the funk not ??

Even the likes of Dell are charging ahead to capture the gaming enthusiast market .....

I can't help but think Apple has decided it is happy with its puny percentage share and just wants to supply a niche .....

I think Steve Jobs needs one of those motivational therapists ..... to help him increase his aspirations and ambitions ..... Apple TV's, Apple PDA/GPS/Cellphones, Apple All-In-One Printers/Scanners/Faxes, Apple cutting edge gaming iMac's ..... etc etc

In fact Steve should personally visit every guy on earth, who didn't buy a Mac ...... and ask them what he needs to improve to make them buy Apple ..... starting with me !! :D

First of all I'd like to say that perfectionist is entitled to his opinion as is everyone else, couple of things though...

First one which has been bugging me - the isight has a light to tell you when it is on, it doesn't need a lense cap!

Second Dell make a similar spec'ed machine to a 20" iMac that cost nearly twice as much but can upgrade it's GPU. For that price you could get an iMac and a decent gaming machine or a nicely spec'ed MP.

Third, Apple have done mid range towers before (I'm not talking the cube). Back when a 2 x 2.5GHz G5 was the be all and end all and the iMac G5 was a great consumer machine people on this forum were screaming for a lower spec G5. They said it only needs to have 1 processor but would need to be upgradable. They wanted the ability to put in better GPU's and more HDD's. Have a higher RAM capacity. They said that the single G5 was enough power for them but they didn't want a locked in system. They also didn't want to be paying for a display that they would have to discard at the end of the computers life. So Apple came to the party, gave them what they wanted the single 1.8GHz G5.

Now this machine was upgradable in all the same ways as a top end machine (less RAM though more than an iMac 4GB v 2). could have more HDD's and add PCI cards. Upgradable GPU had FW800 and could run multiple display's. You'd think this would have sold like hotcakes I mean there were heaps of people on MR asking for this exact machine right?

This machine sold very very poorly, why? Because nobody wanted it that's why. The Pro's looked at it and said well for a bit extra I can get dual processing power and consumers looked at it and said well for around the same price I can get an iMac which had the same standard spec's but wasn't upgradable but came with a nice LCD screen and cool form factor. It was stuck in the middle of two very well designed machines and didn't really fit any particular user that well. Now I'm not talking about the original 1.8 I'm talking the second gen one which at the time was about the same price as a 17" iMac Superdrive model. Apple simply stopped making them. At the store I used to work we got in about 4 of this config we sold two. When I left we had two sitting there and they were probably never going to get them sold, by that stage the quad was available and the CD iMac were only 2 months away. Some 8 months after the model was discontinued!

Apple are wasting their time bringing out yet another desktop to suit the few people whom actually might buy one. Most consumers go into the store and love the iMacs design, most will never upgrade more than the RAM some will bother with the HDD and that is it. In the time I worked there I had 1 enquiry about a processor upgrade for a G4 and 1 video card. It didn't make sense and it doesn't still make sense. For high end users can spend a little more and get Quad Xeon's and consumers can get a nice screen.

It may make sense later down the track but not yet if Apple needs to develop anything it's a third notebook.

I hereby call for all future threads started by newbies about how they didn't buy so-and-so Mac because they found a similarly-specced Dell in a 500% thicker case for a cheaper price should wastelanded.

Talking about Dells I just received my Dimension E521 AMD powered machine. For the price I paid im pretty impressed. May even do a full honest review of it here at Rumors if the Mods dont mind. Cant seem to find any decent reviews on this machine since AMD' powered dells are brand new. Apple needs something a little more then Mini and a little less the MacPro.

Hey, get a grip. It's not like we are all running over to a Dell forum trashing Dells. And FYI, I am typing this on a Dell. One that I really hope to be replacing with an iMac early next year.

First of all I'd like to say that perfectionist is entitled to his opinion as is everyone else

My opinion is purely that I wish Apple would improve on the (already pretty damn sweet) 24" iMac ..... I didn't realise I needed permission or "entitlement" for this !!

First one which has been bugging me - the isight has a light to tell you when it is on, it doesn't need a lense cap!

Dude, don't you know that the Men In Black will override the green light and video you jerking off to Porn and then threaten to upload the footage on to YouTube unless you assassinate the President of Iran/Venezuela/North Korea ..... :D

That's probably because those people that would have wanted to upgrade, never actually bought an iMac in the first place !! ..... I don't want a Mac Pro or Mini Mac or Maxi Mac or Cube Mac or even a Big Mac or Mac Daddy ..... I want a perfect, all-in-one, does everything, super sexy, PC killing Mega iMac !!

It may make sense later down the track but not yet

I disagree, the time is now !! If Apple unveil a kick ass, upgradeable iMac next quarter, they would put Dell outta business in less than a year !! :)
