You realize how ridiculous this sounds? Here, this is what it would sound like in reverse.

Got tired of Android, so I decided on the iPhone 5S (in gold of course, cause I'm a baller.) Never bothered to check one out personally and it was the first time I ever used iOS. Well, the OS is crap. You can't do anything with it. Why can't I move the icons where I want? Why is there 10 steps just to change a setting? Why is there light bleed all over the IPS screen? Very annoying at night!
This UI looks horrible; like a pink unicorn puked all over it! It came loaded with this Apple crapware, that is impossible to delete. Why can't I delete these stupid icons for newstand, calculator, game center, etc? It forces me to put them in one folder, but then have to place that folder within the grid of icons! WTF? Why does this stupid screen have so much movement from the wallpaper? Makes me want to puke on the unicorn puke screen!

I returned it after one day. A completely unusable experience and I'll be using an Android phone that I can actually use.

Sound as ridiculous as your post? Seriously, who buys a phone out of the blue without at least looking at it in the store, making sure it feels comfortable, looks good on screen and so on?

Problem is, it doesn't even reach 4". It still falls in the 3" category, as it is 3.99" diagonally. So no, it isn't a real 4" screen.

I'm using my note 3 with one hand right now.... Not hard to...

Problem is, you cant reach all 4 corners on the phone with your thumb without changing your grip several times, its called hand gymnastics :p Fumbling around with the phone in one hand like that is bothersome to me and you are also much more likely to drop it. Im having enough trouble with my G2 doing this and its smaller than the Note 3.

or set it to one hand mode....you know, a mode that they developed specifically for situations where you must use it only with one hand

I'm not sure i'd use my note 3 with one hand with fear of dropping it but you should use it with two hands - it deserves that respect. It's a brilliant, well thought out device which runs flawlessly.

I'm loving it and people should put aside their worries of size. I'm used to it already and am enjoying the extra screen estate vs the S3.

I tried to use the iPad Mini with one hand, because Apple said I could. But I have trouble reaching all 4 corners with my thumb. I shouldn't have bought the iPad Mini I guess. You know, cause it is really big. Common sense is just an illusion folks.

Thanks to all who replied to my post.

After viewing a few more YouTube reviews the Galaxy Note 3 left me very impressed. I drove to my local AT&T store and brought one home.

After all these years of new iPhones, this is a refreshing change. Now I see why people rave about the gorgeous display. I've never spent much time using my iPhone one handed, so that's no issue for me.

With the long list of features and benefits, I've got a lot to learn and I'm very exciting about it. I've already determined this will fit into my OS X & iOS ecosystem very nicely.

I really like variety and this Android Smartphone is going to provide it in a spectacular way :)

I am 50/50 right now.

I am coming from a Sprint iPhone4S to an AT&T Note 3. I haven't decided if it is something I will keep or if I will return and get the 5S.

Yes, the screen is huge. Which is good and bad. I am definitely doing the hand gymnastics and using two hands whenever possible.

Yes, the customization is great. However, I keep trying to match iOS settings. For example, it only takes one swipe on iOS to go into messages after receiving a text. With stock android, I had to tap then swipe. Minor to some but annoying to me.

I installed Nova Prime, UCCW, LightFlow, Textra, etc. I just find myself tweaking it more and more each day to improve productivity. But since I am tweaking it more and more I find little issues that bug the crap out of me.

Guess I have to decide if I actually liked being constrained to iOS better than unlimited customizability. With Android, I always feel like there is a better way to do it.. which takes time to research and implement.

Lastly, my speaker phone is awful compared to the iPhone4S. With hours of conference calls, I need a good speaker phone and this is just pathetic.

I'll keep it the 14 days and decide what to do from there...

There is only one phone with quality speakers and it is the HTC One. Why these other manufacturers continue to put speakers facing the back is beyond me.

And if you truly want to have an experience similar to iOS with swiping there are many, many apps/widgets that accomplish this without the need to root or customize further. Take a look at the following apps and widgets (I may have linked to the Pro versions, instead of the free versions, but I am pretty sure there are free versions of each for you to try out. Enjoy:

1. Homeflip https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lean_and_mean.HomeFlip&hl=en
2. Pie Control https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrolpro&hl=en
3. Swapps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schiztech.swapps&hl=en
4. Swipepad https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android&hl=en
5. Wave Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher&hl=en

You might also want to check out Zooper Widget. It is more complex to learn, but you can do a great many things with it. So many things, it may put you off and not want to use it. Almost as bad as learning how to use Tasker.

Exactly. Now that you can shrink the screen down to any size you want, that four corner thumb excuse is out the window.

That looks awful and it defeats the purpose of buying a phone with a giant display. Thats like buying a 60 inch HDTV and watching standard definition programs in 480p in a 4:3 ratio.

So you complain that the screen is to big. Then you complain that the screen is to small. Got it.

For those certain occasions when one handed use is needed, this is a big welcome. Otherwise, I'll be enjoying the full 5.7" 1080p screen.

I use my iphone 4s with two hands. I don't get all this one handed crap. Yes I could use the phone with one hand but its faster using two hands. The only time I have my phone vertical is when I am using the menu. Then for browsing the internet or playing games I like it in landscape using two hands.

No this stems from Steve Job worshippers that take it to heart that phones need to be operated with one hand. But that's an old ideology. Times of change. Similar to how we really don't need skeuomorphism anymore because people have gotten used to tech in general.

I just think people like to think 'the grass is only greener on MY side' and don't want to have to deal with the fact that they might not be enjoying all of what's out there. I can guarantee you if Apple comes out with a 6'' phone, fanboys will go crazy. Remember the iPad mini fiasco?

I actually use my phone one handed, and I have probably average to less than average sized hands. Because the back of the note 3 is matte and grippy, I can hold the phone with one hand and not worry about dropping it. But on the note 2, because of the plastic back, i would not use it 1 handed that much because it would fall out of my hands. just my .02 cents

I am with you.

I use my Note 3 consistently with one hand and I attribute the great grip from the back piece that is the plasther back.

I do have bigger hands and not like the poor saps with these:

I'm on day 1 with my Note 3 coming from an S3, and hoping I'll adjust to it's size. It's a little unwieldy at first, but it's so thin, and light. The display is also ridiculously sharp, can't beat it.

I own an iPhone 5s and (tomorrow) a Note 3. I'm keeping both. The iPhone is just a perfect multimedia/communications device. The Note 3, as a weekly business traveler, is a perfect productivity and entertainment tool. Maybe it's excessive, but I'm happy with both.

I just sold my Moto X and I think I'm going to get a Note 3 to go along with my 5s but I'll probably wait a little while and let the price drop a bit.

The 5s and an iPad mini is a much better combo IMO. Unless you like having to pay for apps twice. I have the 5s and G2 right now and would never keep that combo. Like I keep trying to swipe to go back on my G2 with Chrome because I'm used to doing that on my 5s. Lots of other differences too, not for me. I like the way my 5s and mini integrate.

I'm thinking about picking up an iPad mini this weekend to complement my S4 in which case I'll probably pass on the Note 3. I'm really trying to justify getting the note 3 but I can't really see much difference from the S4 besides the s-pen features which I know I'll hardly ever use. On the other hand I'm completely done with iPhones until Apple decides they want to introduce a larger screen. I believe the mini will be more than enough to satisfy my iOS cravings in this regard. If I only I could wait for the new retina display mini to release but alas, I'm too impatient :D

Me too, I Love this combo . Though I use my Note 3 for Multimedia and entertainment, while I use the iPhone for business and communications. Also writing with the s-pen has been surprisingly good, I wrote this whole response with it.

I have a iPad mini and S4 and find it to be the perfect combination. :) If I had an iPhone I would probably have a Nexus 7, but like you, I prefer a larger screen on a phone, so until Apple give us a larger version I will be sticking to my S4.
