Yes, the difference in their physical sizes is exacerbated by the difference in aspect ratio.
Very true, it feels ginormous compared to the 11”. I feel like Apple made the 11” and 12.9” to be bought together, LOL! 11” for content consumption and 12.9“ for content creation.

I definitely prefer the 11” as I use my iPads on the couch and in bed a lot, but the Mini-LED was tempting for me to go to 12.9”.

I think 12.9 is certainly better if you want to use as a keyboard. Which will be my main usage.

I like having my iPad Pro docked on the Magic Keyboard at all times, and I rarely hold it in my hands, so it’s a non-issue for me. I can see why people would prefer the smaller size, but I am using it in a different way than some people.

I went from a 10.5 Pro to the new 12.9 and couldn't be happier. I went to a local store and played with the 12.9 and the 11 and having used the 12.9 and it becoming the "normal" to me, the smaller sizes look and feel like toys.

I'm sorry, but anyone who doesn't think the Mini-LED screen is better is in denial, or needs their eyes checking. I have an 11 Pro Max and an LG OLED TV, and it's as close to OLED as you need it to be. It's orders of magnitude better than the LCD screens.

I use my tablet a lot at home, and when I take it out with me I invariably have a "man bag" or rucksack it's in. When I use my iPads I normally hold them with my arm resting on my leg or a surface, or place the device on a surface. I'm rarely supporting it entirely with my hand or arm. I do feel that many 12.9 "haters" (not aimed at anyone specific BTW) give the impression that they have arms made of straw, or that you need a crane, forklift or wheelbarrow to transport the 12.9 anywhere.

The superb large screen is very much worth it over the 11 to me, and I'm over the moon with my decision.

I use my iPad on the couch and bed a lot. I just got the new 12.9 yesterday, and it's not changed that.

Try consuming content on a 12.9 mini-LED with HDR and tell me it's not for content consumption ;)

The screen size is amazing, but it’s the physicality while I am sitting that I can not get used to, lol, the device is huge, the 12.9” displays have always looked glorious and I am sure the mini-LED is even more amazing, but it’s the sheer size of the chassis that keeps me hesitant, I had tried the 12.9 2018 when I eventually got the 2020 iPP 11”. It’s funny because when I see a 12.9 in the wild I want it, but then I hold it and I remember why I prefer a 11”.

I went through a similar issue when I was trying to make the jump from normal smartphones to phablets, I tried the Galaxy Note 1 when it was new and it was simply too large then I tried Note 2 still felt it was a little too much then the Note 3 dropped and I was getting comfier with the idea and Note 4 arrived and I made the jump, and it was due to Samsung managing to reduce the width on the Note 4 that maid it more manageable than previous iterations. I think the same thing is happening to me here, if Apple can get the 12.9 a little more manageable in terms of size and weight I’ll prob make the move, we’ll see, it may be a few years though, I think I will still get 11” next year.

11" is the perfect size if you plan on holding the device in your hands for extended periods of time. With the 12.9", your wrists are going to hurt or feel numb after a while, so you're gonna need a case/stand or the Magic Keyboard.

IPad 12.9” is really meant for work and multitasking. And for keyboard use. I have had a 12.9” and a base iPad for the past year and use the base iPad for most tablet like tasks.
Yea that’s definitely the sense I got. Turns out I enjoy using the iPad a lot more holding it my hands. The 12.9 inch definitely seems more at home in its magic keyboard case, and honestly just swiping around the screen with the trackpad just seems “boring” compared to holding all the content in your hands and navigating that way. Like at that point, why even get a tablet over a laptop? Actually don’t answer that, I know there are still benefits to living that iPad life…

Anyways, it definitely just mostly comes down to my use cases. I have a magic keyboard for my 11 inch and will pop it in that when I need to get work down at home. Turns out when I’m not in my office (where I’m provided a laptop and monitors) that’s a pretty rare occurrence. That means 80% of my iPad use at home is browsing the web, reading emails/news/books/Twitter, watching baseball games while my TV is playing something else, etc. All things that I definitely prefer doing in tablet mode, and are more comfortable for me on the 11 inch.

I totally get the 12.9 use case for people. I just don’t think it’s for me. Although I have 2 weeks to return so I’ll try to use the 12.9 heavily in those 2 weeks to see if I get used to it.

I couldn’t decide so just ordered both :) liking the 12.9 thus far for keyboard size, screen size and brilliance of screen! I figure I could take it on trips as my sole device and actually leave the laptop at home, so this can take care of my social media content, movies in flight, and serious document writing hopefully… love the white keyboard especially!

Yeah I use it on the coach no problem… guess It just takes some getting use to? Kind of like the Max phones, seemed heavy at first but so glad I went with one, so much better for content - just makes you more productive generally.

Just out of curiosity, how is your workflow changing? You just using it more as a laptop replacement?
Not as a replacement necessarily...but I suppose kinda sorta. ?

I have a 2019 16" MBP that is docked in my office through a Belkin thunderbolt dock to a 34" Ultrawide and storage. Before, my iPad 11 was mainly about content consumption or for use as note taking and presenting content (notes, sheet music, etc...I'm a pastor).

In 2018 when I upgraded to my current 11", I thought about the same switch. Couldn't do it. I have always liked the idea of the 12.9, but it's just been too big for how I was working and it just didn't fit in my workflow. The benefits of the 12.9 just didn't give me a reason to give up the better portability.

I will be more mobile in the coming changes of my job and want some more portability for a production machine as opposed to just doing okay on the 11"...I can do a lot on the 11...but it always felt "forced." I can still take my 16" and will probably do so for those times that I need more power and MacOS...which can be so many times. However, the 12.9 gives me the ability to pack up quick and go...while still having a lot of production ability. The 11 just didn't have the screen space for multitasking and I use multiple apps often. I will not be producing as much video content myself, so Luma Fusion will work for those times that I may be mobile and need to create some video content.

Ultimately, I'm banking on WWDC bringing some more functionality to iPadOS with the massive hardware upgrades. The screen real estate makes it more of a production screen for me. TBH, I'm still "in between" as the 11" is still an option for me. The 12.9 is an expensive upgrade as I have to upgrade my accessories since they're all 11". But after a day...I'm still in the 12.9 camp. Looking forward to a week of workflow to see if it's gonna do what I think it will.

...and that's my $.02. ?

This is EXACTLY where I'm at. I'm actually thinking I can leave behind my MBP on trips and only take this. Combine that with iCloud and the ability to log into my machine remotely if necessary...This is gonna be sweet.

However, while I love the look of the white, I can't bring myself to do it. It's gonna get dirty...and won't look pristine forever. I think it will be interesting to see how those white keyboards age.

I’m giving the new 12.9 a really good run and test this weekend.

I felt exactly the same when I jumped from the 6S iPhone to the 7 Plus, I thought there was no way I’d enjoy the extra weight and size, but I gave it a good try and actually ended up absolutely loving it, enough to say I would absolutely never go back to the ‘norm’ sized phones.

In the same way of my phone, I’m starting to really enjoy the 12.9 and can see me going that direction.

Contrast is definitely significantly better on the 12.9 inch, but turns out the better display quality isn’t enough to overcome the fact that the 11 inch iPad is just a much better size for the way I use my iPad (mostly in tablet mode out of the magic keyboard). I now plan on returning the 12.9 inch and will just wait for them to come out with mini LED on the 11 inch before I upgrade again. honestly I’m not even disappointed about it, if anything this experiment just reaffirmed how much I love my 2018 11 inch iPad Pro.
Seriously that was obvious from the start...people think they must come here to talk themselves into really stuff they would never purpose then get it and find out. Apple does this trick and did it on the iPhone 12 pro max to get more sales with the camera difference...total joke and many returned to the 12 pro

I really want to get a new iPad Pro because the ones I have are a bit long in the tooth now, especially with some of the apps I use like Korg Gadget and some music production apps. I have both the 12.9 and 10.5 inch 2017 iPad Pros.

I personally can’t stand the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, I’ve had mine for 4 years and never got used to it, it’s like dragging around a cookie sheet and it’s obnoxious for more ”close up” use, like when using it while lying in bed. I can’t stand it. But at the same time, the new 2021 version really does have a far better screen.

I really wish the 11-inch just had the newer screen then I’d buy one in a second, but I just cannot go with another 12.9, I never really liked mine except for when using it for reading sheet music, but that’s it. I VASTLY prefer the smaller Pro. I guess I’ll wait another year and hope they upgrade the screens on the smaller variant.

wanted the mini led tech but it's a shame apple didn't bring it to the 11inch. would've glad paid extra for it if that was the cost.
I read the real issue is the chip shortage, can't roll out product if you can't get the silicon

I’m returning the 2021 12.9 I got for the more portable 11. While I understand and see that the screen of the 12.9 is better , coming from a 10.5 and comparing the displays side by side when I got it … I honestly feel the deeper blacks and contrast the 12.9 gives (and its current shortcomings. i.e shadows around the edges and blooming) does not outweigh the portability and the equally amazing screen on the 10.5 (and also on the 11 I’d be getting)

So I’m finding myself adjusting pretty quickly to the 12.9. I’m typing this right now on the iPad‘s on-screen keyboard. I’m having to get used to the slightly larger keyboard, and holding the iPad up in bed is a bit more challenging but I see myself getting used to it no problem. I also found a really good deal on the previous Magic Keyboard which seems to be totally fine on the new 12.9.

I too am trying out the 12.9inch form factor for the first time. Right out of the box it is a bit jarring but if you have a case like the Smart folio or MK which helps support it, the transition is not as bad as expected. I do think I prefer the 11inch as a tablet/companion device but the 12.9 pending on what happens at WWDC could become a true ”all in one”

I'm looking for a good deal on the previous Magic Keyboard. The iPad price I can take...but that keyboard price is STEEP! I'll be putting a screen protector on it, though...so I'm not sure. Will be deciding between a paperlike and a glass one. I think the paperlike would work fine with the old keyboard...not so sure about the clearances and a glass protector.

I came from the 10.5 and the 12.9 screen is leagues ahead in every way, and my 10.5 had an outstanding panel with minimal light bleed, uniform colours and no white spot.
