Contrast is definitely significantly better on the 12.9 inch, but turns out the better display quality isn’t enough to overcome the fact that the 11 inch iPad is just a much better size for the way I use my iPad (mostly in tablet mode out of the magic keyboard). I now plan on returning the 12.9 inch and will just wait for them to come out with mini LED on the 11 inch before I upgrade again. honestly I’m not even disappointed about it, if anything this experiment just reaffirmed how much I love my 2018 11 inch iPad Pro.
Yeah, they had them in-stock at one of my local Apple Stores on Friday; set up an appointment and played with both. Screen’s a bit more vibrant on the 12.9”, absolutely. Definitely not enough for me to care (or want to wait to upgrade my 2018 Pro) more about that than the size. So opted for the 11” in 1 TB (WiFi & cell), 16 GB RAM - it’ll take something SERIOUS on Apple’s part to make me upgrade.

Then again… a landscape-located video camera might just about do it.

Upgrading from 9.7" iPP to new 12.9 (delivery date is June 24, unfortunately). The main use case for me is for a sheet music e-reader, so a 12.9" iPP in portrait mode sitting on my piano is ideal. For sheet music, it really needs to be a full page size. But for content consumption, mostly reading, I've been using Surface Pros for years, and they're just as big.

Ok dumb question…. If I view you tube on the 11, will it be about the same size as on the 12.9? Seems that way? Due to aspect ratios? Same for certain web pages, if so - why wouldn’t most just get an 11?

No. The 12.9” is still bigger. You just get smaller black bars with the 11”.

I usually still get more content on screen with the 12.9” than 10.9” (don’t have the 11”). Either that or you can dial up the font size on 12.9” while getting the same amount of content as mid-size iPads.

It is a decently big difference in YouTube, and regarding Safari I always had to use my 11" in portrait mode because it didn't show enough vertically when in landscape mode while that isn't a problem on the 12.9".

Regarding weight, I was using my 11inch with a smart keyboard which I never removed. That combo weighs the same as the new 12.9 on its own. So, using magic keyboard and then pulling off the ipad when I need to use it as a tablet works just fine without added weight. Now together — 12.9 with keyboard — it is indeed a beast. But that screen! It is truly mesmerizing and frankly I couldn’t go back to my 11 at this point. Not just for HDR content but for everything. the screen is brilliant and the size makes the experience way more immersive.

It really just depends on how you want to use it. For a few years I had a 12.9 inch iPad as a laptop replacement and more or less only used it attached to the keyboard folio case. It was great for that and the display is really nice don’t get me wrong but when I switched to the 11 inch iPad Pro I found myself enjoying the iPad much more and using it in different ways instead of just attached to the keyboard case.

Spot on. I used my 10.5” with a snap-on back shell and the Apple Smart Cover, and this was heavier than the 12.9. If I remove the Smart Cover but leave the shell on, it weighs the same as the 12.9 naked. I have my 12.9 with a Smart Folio and normally rip it out and use naked. It actually feels more comfortable using this new iPad design naked as it just feels more rugged. No diamond polished chamfered edges that chip and nick if you look at them funny. The aluminium feels more substantial, I went with the silver. Loving the larger better screen, and no issues handling it.
