Hi folks

I'm going to get an i7 in January, and was wondering if people could post simply their gaming performance here. When saying "all settings max", please note the resolutions - I'm a bit picky about playing at native resolution - just think things are so much crisper.

I'm hoping this thread can become a sort of dumping ground for game performance that other folks can come and read on as well.

Let it commence! I hope this works :)

I've seen all that, and I wouldn't say it's a lot. Not everyone wants to sift through pages of pictures of brown boxes to see a comment like "i play games and they run well". I think some people would appreciate a consolidated gaming thread. If anyone has any experiences, please let us know.

Then you should head to the gaming thread as that is more specific to your question: https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/101/

Well, this obviously didn't work.
I didn't post this in the Gaming section as that pertains to ipod gaming, as well as gaming on the macbook air, macbooks, macbook pro's, mac mini's and mac pros, or even the imac c2ds. Seeing as the i7 processors are unique to iMacs (so far), I posted it here.

Your picky about gaming and your planning to buy a mac? Macs aren't great at playing games and they never will be. The models always lack a updated/current graphics card option.

I'm not new to macs and I fully realise their limitations with games. I didn't say I was picky about gaming - the new i processors add a lot in terms of performance so I was curious about their performance. I'm buying a new computer to gain access to more RAM, a stronger processor and a bigger screen for music production.

I won't post anymore. Sorry.

I get ya... I wish people would post more video and description on how their imac performed through gaming instead of "looks great".

sending the OP to the gaming thread was pointless considering he/she is looking for specific performance from the i5/i7 imacs.

FWIW my i7 is coming in Tuesday and I plan to post video and give some insight on the gaming side. I'll probably start with WoW because I hate searching the internet and finding nothing on this except.. settings maxed in dalaraan and it looks great. kinda ambiguous

Don't let these rough posters run you off! We are here to help and discuss not hammer folks.

I wish I had data for you, but from my personal experience, my i7 (8GB Windows 7 x64) is running at full res 2550x1440.. (can't remember the rez exactly) Dragon Age Origins and it is smooth as glass.

Gaming seems super. Oh no! I can't run Crysis at 60FPS! A lot of folks think it matters if it runs at super high FPS, it doesn't if it is smooth to you. Its all about how it looks in your eyes.

I also agree. I'm really interested in how modern warfare 2 runs on the iMac. My main concern however is how well starcraft 2 and diablo 3 will run on the new i7 iMac as those are the only games i want to play in the future. If u could post videos of any games and their frame rates resolutions etc I would really appreciate it. I've been scanning forums and searching on YouTube for more info on i7 gaming but like you said haven't been able to find much. I'll probably be running these games on boot camp and I'm not really interested in emulators like crossover. Nice post!

I will post some info on my iMac runs Dragon Age Origins and Bioshock in Windows.

How does that sound?

Couldn't you take a look at benchmarks for the video card itself?

I would love that! Dragon Age is the only game I really care about, because I can run all the other games on my PS3. Can you tell us what resolution and settings you are running the game. Maybe HD-textures? (http://dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15)
How does it perform overall? Thanks a bunch in advance, it's really appreciated!

Bump. id also like to know how dragon age runs on the new imac i7's. thanks!
what reso and what settings you have everything and the average fps.

Sorry folks I have been very busy especially with Thanksgiving.

I will get these benches posted in the next day or 2.

I'll happily do some proper results for you once my i7 arrives in a week or so. I hate how people say "looks great", but don't provide any information about the resolution, settings or anything that they're using.

Sorry if this is old, but...

Bare Feats posted few comparisons between i5 and i7 iMacs with HD 4850 (mobile) running 2560x1440. In short, i5 is as fast as i7 in games, because HD 4850 is already being bottlenecked by i5.

iMac needs more powerful GPU!

Oh? I automatically thought that they were running Windows while benching. See, even I don't care about OS X gaming! :D

Funny that they don't mention the OS. Well, maybe they did, but in that case I missed it completely. Sorry!

I tried COD MW 2 in bootcamp (windows 7 x64) and runs at 50-60 fps at native res....

With an imac i5 and 4Gb of ram.

All max with no AA (what do you want AA when you are playing at 2560x1440 xDD)

Other games I tried:
Mass Effect: All max native res 30 fps.
Gears of war: All max native res 50-60 fps (DX 10 mode OFF)
Team Fortress 2: All max 1080p 60 Fps, native res 40 Fps
Borderlands: 1080p all max 40-50 Fps
Crysis: 720p Very High 20-30 Fps , High 25-30 fps (This game sucks)

It's incredible that COD MW 2 it's the game that runs best on the imac XD

Later i will open a post with 3dmark score and pics!
