Apple is not going to reduce the price of the iPhone X until the next major one drops in fourth quarter of 2018. Even if they did drop it by like $100 or so this month, I really would no be mad, because I am really enjoying this phone, and i could have not waited the extra three or so months for it. Next years iPhone X direct competitor (the 5.8' OLED one), will most likely cost $999, doubt Apple will make it cheaper. If anything they may include something free (like wireless charger) for customers that pre-order it or something along those lines.

They would probably do like they did when they dropped the price of the original iPhone...give those who paid the higher price a $100 store credit or Apple gift card.

Just come out with a plastic iPhone CX/SEX (pause) the size of an iPhone 5 at a lower price.

Or

iPhone X front and iPhone non plus camera with a plastic back for less. Probably no wireless charging either. Just to mess with people re-install the headphone jack lol.

Seems like that would be a good compromise.

You’d get a preview of what it’s like to have an X(no home button) but if you want the full, premium, experience you’ll need to drop a little more cash.

That's a pretty myopic view of Apple's business, especially iPhone revenue growth has decelerated.

Apple Services is the fastest growing business segment for the company. Tim Cook announced he wanted to double services revenue by 2020 to $50 billion.

Without the units in the hands of consumers, how exactly is Apple supposed to sell the services? Hardware is catching up faster than software is being developed. At some point, hardware will plateau and rely on software to do the heavy lifting for Apple's revenue.

The view is myopic because the subject matter is whether or not the iPhone X is a bust and whether, as a result, the iPhone category will crash and burn Apple to its knees. I say, hell no.

As far as Apple's other verticals like Mac's, MacBooks, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Accessories, etc. etc. I have no idea. I just know that iPhone is going to knock the cover off the ball when Q1 results are announced in a few weeks.

An interesting assumption.

There is a name for it, price discrimination.

I look forward to seeing the quarterly report later this month, which will put the doubters about Apple in their place.

Apple doesn't break out sales by models, they group them all together. So what would the quarterly report show?

Your 'compensation' is getting to use the device all this time.

'Outrage' lol. People are so entitled these days, it's ridiculous

Yes, outrage. It’s why Apple offered credit to early iPhone adopters after they reduced the price of the phone. It’s why Apple is now offering $29 battery swaps.

If people are paying hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for a product, they absolutely have to ability to critique or demand things from a company.

I get that this forum is pro-Apple but sometimes it’s at the detriment of your own interests. It’s weird.

No... they are a company.. not your friend, not your ally nor your servant. They exist to sell you stuff. You can vote with your dollar or move on.

I didn't state "models", you interjected that. All I stated was I look forward to the quarterly monthly report. Regardless, it will put doubters in their place who classify Apple As a failure throughout this forum.

You guys in the States should be thankful for the price of X.

Here in my country, the 64Gb X costs $1260.

Therefore, I still keep my 7+.

If the X is available for $999 in my country, I will buy it in a heartbeat.

don't buy at all that the x isn'r selling well. Guessing it still crushed any android phone in sales and guessing it was up there with the 8 plus sales as well. They have still made what 20-30 million of these devices for a reason.

H
You assume Apple created the iPhone X for the masses. The purpose of the iPhone X is to create a higher price point and to separate the rich and poor customers.
ha ha ha. You made me laugh. In life I have found that most rich people I have met and know ( multi millionaires )do not look like millionaires. Why? Because they are careful with their money in all things. The people who look like millionaires are up to their eyes in debt. I remember a DJ pointing to the crowd in his nightclub and saying “its full of weekend millionaires, all Concorde pilotos or brain surgeons”. In reality poor men spending money they didn’t have to impress women to get laid.

This is such an interesting topic.

1) The iPhone X will not drop in price until the next iPhone is released
2) Apple always charged more for their products than any other technology goods manufacture. MacBooks, iPhones and all they have done is simply increase the price for their flagship model

3) The argument between rich and poor - Because I have an iPhone X does not make me rich nor does it make me poor. Rich aka as above millionaires do have iPhone X's look at Gary V, but also some of them don't.

Spending £1k on an iPhone is a luxury item of interest, a millionaire may not have technology as interest. But there are other millionaires who do not buy anything luxury.

Each to their own I don't see how rich vs poor needs to be on this thread. If it does buying a £700/£800 iPhone not come into this? What is too expensive for a phone? That work is a measure of cost made up by no else but you. Your expensive to mine is different.

Finally, if this conversation is going to continue I urge people to read the following books for mindshift change on rich vs poor

Rich Dad Poor Dad
Think & Grow Rich

Oh but everytime I am in Apple Store recently I see iPhone X's being bought....Apple has create a demand it will sell at there current price point

Don’t forget.. “rich” people like garyV usually expense the cost of technology so they’re not paying for a 1k smartphone like the “poor” people do. Basic rich dad technique, build something that generates revenue so you can expense the purchases. Poor dad, buy the X for a monthly fee paid from your salary.

So many iPhone models for every price range. Remember when there was just two? The new one and the old one?

I don’t buy this rich analogy at all. If someone is able to buy an 8 Plus outright then they should be able to fork out a couple of hundreds more to get the X. If that’s worth it, is completely a different argument. That depends on individuals and their mindset. Not necessarily related to if they are rich or poor.

Exactly

Apparently poor people can afford $799 for an iPhone 8 Plus
They just can't afford $999 for an iPhone X... that's only for rich people

So that $200 is the measurable, quantifiable difference between being poor and being rich
[And the difference in the upgrade program is $39 -> $49]

Joe Everyday Common Man carries the 8 Plus
Richie Rich who wants to flaunt how much money he has and carry a status symbol carries the X

Silly

If you don't have an Apple Watch Edition, you are not rich. You are not fooling anyone with iPhone X.

Sarcasm mode over.

Spending £1k on an iPhone is a luxury item of interest, a millionaire may not have technology as interest. But there are other millionaires who do not buy anything luxury.

It is not about rich or poor. it is not about the have or have nots.. I agree, luxury goods are typically more costly and are often bought by individuals that have a higher disposable income or greater accumulated wealth than the average. but I refer to the following definition...

"a : something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary • one of life's luxuries"

To explain further... Products which are not necessary but which tend to make life more pleasant for the consumer. An item that is not necessary for living, but is deemed as highly-desired within a culture or society. Other examples of luxury goods are diamonds or nice vacations. They are things that are desirable but not necessary in a shortage of money.

My argument is that the iPhone 8 provides the same basic functionality as the X without the added cost. One could argue any mobile phone is a luxury good, but these days conducting business without a smart phone is practically an impossibility for many. True one could use an iPhone 6s or 7 as an 8 is not a necessity. I wanted to place emphasis on the fact that the 8 and X share the same CPU and general specifications (with the exception of ram.) however the X is nearly 1/4 more costly and runs the same applications. In fact the majority of applications are still not optimized for the X leaving it an inferior experience but at greater cost.

As Luxury items are also known as "positional goods" because they signal that the owner has achieved a certain position or status within society to be able to afford them. My argument s that many who buy an X are doing so to demonstrate perceived status (regardless of actual wealth.)
