SCSI "failed"? yeah, I don't think so. SCSI penetration in the unix desktop and departmental server hardware world was 100% for at least a couple decades. Its time is mostly over, but that's hardly "failing".
It's actually still very strong - but is using SAS and iSCSI protocols.

SAS rules the enterprise, and most of the iSCSI and SAN controllers have SAS connections from the controller to the actual disks.

hmm.. that wasn't meant as "I'm (personally) more talented/skilled than you (individually)".. didn't mean to trigger you like that. srry.
(ok, maybe just a little bit i meant to trigger ; ) )
ok, you're talking about shattered assemblies then i'm guessing.. not single 2GB files.. like, a single 2GB file containing raw CAD data could almost be likened to a 2GB excel file.. which is a crapton of information and almost an unheard of file size.. it just doesn't take a whole of MB to store the info which basically contains lists of 3 numbers (XYZ) describing points in 3D space.
i imagine you do have deadlines.. but keep it real would you?
the projects, at least as i'm understanding them, are months long.. the actual deadline is the whole project and your 'deadlines' are small fraction of that.. is that correct?
huh?
i thought you said you were using Houdini daily??

"My daily workflow requires to bring full CAD machines into Houdini and apply fluids and particles simulations."
srry but something isn't adding up here
the implication that it's not possible to do actual work on macs .
whatever floats your boat i suppose but these types of statements just put holes in your spiel and doesn't strengthen your stance except to those who also think a geekBench score determines the amount or actuality of work capable on a particular computing platform.

Look, i don't know what are you trying to do here, but let's just say that i have this machines, ok? Now looks like i can't use Houdini and render my animations using Redshift cause someone wants to prove me that macs are so great. Again, i use CUDA as my part of my workflow and macs aren't there. I just depicted you my machine and somehow you still trying to comment(what exactly is not very clear) and do lengthy posts about my workflow, my deadlines and even about the size of my regular work files. Or if i am/not capable of working on this and how long it takes. Do you feel there is 'a bit' of too much on this attitude of yours only to defend something that is not defendable? Just saying..... But to end this once and for all: for MY workflow Apple is no go since 3 years. Happy now?

Look at his posting history... It's a favorite tactic of his, mostly to get a bad reaction and then ask the mods to ban you when you put him in his place. Better to just ignore him.

never heard of Redshift until now.. looks sweet.
i used to be an un-biased nerd (used Indigo for years) but i don't care anymore.. too much good looking stuff coming out of biased engines swayed my opinion on that.

yeah.. i'll tone it down.. sorry.

(though honestly, i don't feel my intent is defending Macs or Apple Inc.. something else but whatever.. Macs come up in what i say simply because they're the only computers i use and know.. if i used windows, pretty sure i'd be saying similar stuff in many cases.)

lol.
i've been a member here for 10 years and i've never once contacted a mod regarding another member and certainly not to narc on someone or try to get them banned..

if this is what you believe then i don't know.. pretty damn funny i suppose.
good day.

Since I wrote the letter to Tim Cook, yeah I'll be getting one. I mean, assuming it's as modular as a Cheese Grater and has some PCI slots to upgrade things, oh and can handle at least 2 2.5 inch drives.

nah, you did it a lot of times.

keep trying... and failing.
tux, i think you might be a little paranoid.

can you or someone please be on their best behavior, kiss some mod butt, become a mod, search the flat five acct for these supposed mod narc_ings, post findings.
thnx.

(or hey, how about a current mod just do this.. look at my acct then tell tux to quit worrying about flat five acct trying to get him banned as there is zero history supporting this idea.. thnx)

Aiden for Mod 2017 !!

---
(but hey.. when you get elected, will you have a quick look at my acct for tux please? thanks)

[ok, i'll stop now : ) ]

Just a friendly warning - I got put in timeout once for a similar case of more or less off topic personal bickering with another member. If you're having a one-on-one argument, don't do it in the main thread - take it off the playground.

And it takes two to "bicker"....
