The 12.9 inch iPad Pro has some values in productivity, especially for the Apple Pencil support. In Engineering, for example, things needs to be written down and drawn out, typing is not efficient.
Pro max is a device in itself that needs extra stuff: Apple is genius. I personally feel like pro max if you use it as a phone is much better served with any Airpods + Apple watch which adds up into $. Otherwise it is pretty cumbersome to be checking notifications and being on the calls - which you can avoid with smaller iphones.

An iPad Pro 12.9 is not a true desktop device, so I also have a MBP 15.
A Mac is not enough of a computer, so I also have Lenovo laptops for Engineering work and as service computers.
The only thing that I personally think is redundent is the Magic Keyboard. If I need a real keyboard, I would use my Mac. Apple pencil is useful though.
My iPad Pro 11" is my least used Apple product, even with the magic keyboard. Sounds like I'm the odd one, but I find the iPhone Pro Max easier to grab for quick browsing/messaging even around the house. It tends to be closer to me at all times, and less cumbersome to type on so I use it 10x as often as the iPad. I use my Mac anytime I want a large screen experience.
Seems to be the consequences of human nature with 1 body and pairs of eyes/hands. I am often too stuck onto something be it a tablet or phone. It is hard to rewire brain to switch gears - one time i was only tablet user when my iphone was outdated, the other time i stuck to my phone feeling lazy to grab/charge tablet.
