more cowbell

for me, the MacBook is the perfect machine. i love the size of it, it is damn quick, the display is fantastic... i just wish i ordered it with an 80GB HDD and a superdrive :p

next upgrade i reckon they'll;
-make the system bus faster
-make the RAM upgradeable to 3GB
-put in an LED display
-shave that 0.08" off to make it 1"
-cut a bit of weight out as well
-put in better speakers

I would love to have a card reader on my Macbook. A agree with the need for a better GPU and rounded edges by the wrist rests. The fans don't bother me that much as mine is rarely under full load. An e-SATA port would also be nice. More powerful speakers is a MUST.

They really need to fix the cooling system on the MacBook. In my opinion, heat causes at least 90% of random shutdowns.

The current design is flawed because there are no vents on the bottom (the intake is from the spaces between the keys  ), and the exhaust is partially blocked by the LCD display. No other notebook I've ever used runs this hot or this loud.

But then again, I guess looks are more important than functionality eh?

I dont like how they dont come in silver and have a MacBook Pro finish and keyboard and black is expensive.

What about you?

one of the things i love about the macbook is that it doesn't look like a macbook pro. and i definitely wouldn't want a macbook pro keyboard in my macbook. the only thing i'd change about the macbook is the size. it could lose a pound or two and inch off the length.

yes, it was a heat issue, but it was also a heatsink issue. Apple are fixing computers with the random shutdown issue.

i can name plenty. My mum's Toshiba laptop has 'mooing' on steroids! The air coming out of the vent is hot enough to soften the plastic on the power cable, and the fans are louder than the speakers.

I've had several Dell notebooks in the past, and they've all been very cool and quiet. None of them even come close to the noise & heat generated by the MacBook, though they were thick and heavy (probably because of the chunky heatsinks? )

It's a tradeoff, I guess. Dell decided to go one way while Apple went the other way.

15 inch screen would be a god send. I have no need for a MBP. A 15 inch screen would make it more pleasant to do spreadsheets on (the most demanding use I have for my computer). At the moment the height of the 13 inch screen is just to short. :(

THings I'd like changed:

- a MUCH more hardy exterior that doesn't scratch, smudge etc
- remove the damn sharp edge. It shouldn't be there and there's no reason for it to be there.
- a 14" display would easily fit within the current design
- reinforce the areas where people are experiencing cracking or, better yet, change the material of the casing to something stronger.
- better viewing angles are always nice - though I think the Macbook display is pretty damn good and definitely better than the MBP

I'm about to buy a MacBook (my first ever Mac)...is the GPU really THAT bad on this thing? If you don't play games, will you ever even notice it? What does it really effect besides games?

Pardon my ignorance.

matte

matte screen option, please.
14" would be nice.
I like the size, love the keyboard, and mine has been rock solid.

I didn't notice anyone else say this:

A Fingerprint scanner/reader great for security (suppose OS X would have to support that kind of thing)

I don't game on my Mac. I have never once found myself wishing that my Macbook had a better GPU. It has no negative effect on the things I do on my Macbook.

argh!

It is not that bad at all. Everything that I have done on mine so far has been just fine. If you don't game you won't notice the absence of a dedicated GPU. But actually, I installed Halflife2, etc. in Bootcamp - XP and it played absolutely fine on Medium to High settings. The only issue (a windows issue i think) was it crashing on the autosaves. GAMEPLAY WAS FINE! go ahead and n=buy your macbook, you won't regret it! :D

my vote would be for a smaller bezel around the screen. im so used to my powerbook with the small bezel, it kinda makes the screen feel larger to have a small bezel. also by reducing the bezel, the overall size of the MB would be smaller which would be nice. i think the 12" PB was one of the best 'real' portable laptops (as opposed to a 17" which is so big its hard for me to consider portable). a 12" widescreen with better resolution than the 12" PB would be the best (as long as it had a better GPU! ha, sorry had to say it)

I had a dell laptop that was 10 pounds and two inches thick. if you were using it on your lap for over an hour it would burn through your pants. you could go camping and cook an egg on the bottom of that thing.

The only reason that macs get really hot is because the factory put way too much paste on the heatsinks creating inefficient transfer.

some people who have reapplied the thermal paste have reported temperatures half of what they normally were!

The MacBook is nice as it is, but like almost everything it can become better.
A card reader would be very nice and not take up space.
A secondary click button would also be very nice and not need extra space.
A larger and faster default HDD would be a great idea, especially if that did not raise the default price:rolleyes:
I would personally enjoy a more radical design change. Maybe a rounder case to truly make the MB stand out, as if the glowing :apple: :apple: :apple: doesn't already. More roundness in the design might be soothing and pleasant for the user. Like the way the iPod controls are intuitive because they are round. In fact, a customizable iPod-like control could very well replace the page up/down buttons, offering the user page up/down functionality with volume controls too.
It might also be nice to offer the MB in more than white/black. I'm right now thinking of colors like matte gray, deep red, yellow. Or perhaps a metallic finish? Superficial indeed, but personal, like clothing :)

The hinge. I hate the way they have been implementing the screen hinge. It doesn't go all the way back. I have tried to like it to no avail. I love my thinkpad for its screen hinge.

A superdrive that can write to DL at a better ratio than 1 in 10

And yes the battery sits about 1mm too low at the edge of the case. Its fussy I know but still annoying.

Its a tad heavy for a portable in my opinion with Sony producing a laptop of the same size but with an offboard graphics card at 1.69kg.

I would like to see the macbook shed off at least 300-600 grams.

Seconded, but I'd also mention that in my experience Apple's consumer notebooks (iBook, Macbook) are more resilient than Sony's, in that they survive drops better. Having ruined a Vaio's LCD by slipping down on ice (the laptop's inside a padded carrying case inside a bag, and only fell about 2 feet), I'm more than happy to pay 0.5-1lb for extra screen protection (that'd still make the Macbook lighter than the current weight)

I'd have to say that at least one extra USB port would be nice. Since Apple removed the internal modem, it takes up a USB port if you want to use the internet. It kind of sucks.

-Superdrive in ALL the models
-The eject button should be nowhere near the delete key
-Backlit keyboard
-A full-sized DVI Port (Not the mini one)
-Cooler case (It gets quite hot underneath as it "breaths through the bottom")
-An extra USB would be a nice touch

Haven't got a macbook but hope to buy one in next 6 months or so

12" & 15" Screens- 13" seems to be too 'middle of the road'
Superdrives in all models (esp. for that kind of $$)
3+ RAM slots (if possible would be cool)
Backlit keyboard

Not having used a macbook yet, It looks much more practical to not have heat vents on the bottom because it is after all a LAP-top & it shouldn't matter if you have it sitting on your lap- however my last laptop (Acer 1.6ghz celeron m) would set your clothes alight & deafen you with fan noise if you so much as thought about putting it on your lap- it was like having a hair dryer going on your legs -no exaggeration
